For the ex-girlfriend work question - if we had an AITA from another perspective (i.e a new girlfriend) we would say it’s somewhat of a red flag that the ex is still so involved with the family. The mum sounds like she loves her so much. If she asked her to work with her multiple times, its probably fair to assume she talks about her a lot at home, when talking about the cafe. Obviously the extent the son is going is ridiculous, but imagine bringing a girl home and your mum talks highly about your ex, and having to reassure your girlfriend that she’s not in the picture for you. It would be fair for a new girlfriend to feel like she doesn’t want to date a guy, who’s ex is so clearly loved and involved in the family to that extent. I also don’t understand not wanting to leave, the minute you start thinking their relationship is strained because of you, i wouldn’t want to be involved in all the drama, especially if as my ex we didn’t breakup over something toxic, i would want the best for his relationship with his mum. There are other cafe’s in the world and more job opportunities that won’t come with threats out there.

I don’t feel like Matt listened to the fact that the girl did try to talk to her parents and did tell them how uncomfortable she was with their political values. She seems like she’s voiced these concerns greatly. Also the differences aren’t just minor political views it’s life altering laws that could affect the women in your family for generations. Do you guys really not understand how uncomfortable it is to be around your own parents that don’t believe you have the right to your own body? Maybe Matt can’t understand how that feels because no one would do that to men but as a woman, knowing my father supported a man that would vote against me having bodily autonomy or any say in what I do with my own self is really concerning.

100% agree with Matt in regards to the girl from Austria. A healthy boundary would be to agree not to discuss politics as it seems after many conversations they don’t agree and it creates family conflict. It isn’t worth not speaking to your parents for 3 months and losing precious time. Also the view that people shouldn’t associate with those that don’t agree with your political opinion is crazy and shows ignorance. Being human is to have conversations even those with opposing sides and hopefully both parties learn something, and then we can make more educated and diverse decisions. Of course there are extreme situations that this doesn’t apply to.

As a bull terrier owner myself, I can say this….at almost 6 years old, the excited hello nipping STILL happens, it is part of the instinct in the breed that you cannot train out of them. Also, if you give any stranger a friendly reminder and they proceed…..IT IS ON THEM even though it somehow always ends up being on the end of the owner giving the warning 🙃 Would you walk up to someone’s child and try to interact, if their adult in charge asked you not to? I’ve been going to an overnight camp every summer for 17 years now! One of my favorite things to do! I’ve been a camp counselor for the last 5 years! It’s so rewarding! It’s never too late Matt! As a new Millenial parent, my kid doesn't do any tablet or phone but we watch all the old shows ( Mr. Rogers is one of his favourites) but also Bluey! We also just put spotify on the tv and he just vibes and plays- highly recommend just letting your kid pick the music and thats their screen time!
