This is the first video of yours I have seen and I am extremely impressed! I feel your choice to narrate and explain the process is a much better idea than going with background music - I don't think anyone watching the build all the way through would care if there was music. I appreciated your honesty when describing the difficulties and challenges. The details of where you sourced the various materials was on par with the quality and attention to detail of the build itself. Overall a top notch video and I look forward to watching your other builds. Thank you Mike!

What can be added to all the comments below, Well Done..........only one question, final cost and total hours?
@mikekrabal2 сағат бұрын
Thanks for checking out the video! Unfortunately, I didn't keep track of hours. Just worked on it as much as possible over a five month period. I spent about $4500. That includes a budget trailer and materials and leftovers from other builds. With a better trailer, better equipment and materials, it could easily be a $7 or $8k+ build. I had very limited finances so I had to use what I could barely afford.

Great Build .. Well Done and Great attention to detail.. Just curious.. Was it cost that made you choose such a light duty trailer ?? .. Great Vintage Vibe...
@mikekrabal4 сағат бұрын
Thanks for watching and for the question. Yes, it was 100% cost. My budget was extremely tight and I honestly didn't have the money for the build, so it was a huge gamble making the camper. If I didn't have a financial limitation, I would build it on a 6x10 trailer, I wouldn't use pine and I'd likely use a real RV air conditioner and better material throughout. And I'd hire an electrician haha!

I couldn't say if it's a contact cement, but it's a glue that is specifically designed for EPDM rubber roof. It's holding up really well so far. @@mikekrabal It’s considered an invasive species by the Forest Services, because it grows extremely faster than other species. I’ve been retired for many years now, and I cannot remember where we got the wood, so, as far as finding it, you’re on your own. There was a place in South Carolina, family owned and operated. Quick Q: - Are you happy with you trailer selection or if you had a budget you would go for wider base or bigger tires? This Harbor Freight trailer looks a bit small for the structure. How is it on a road?
@mikekrabalКүн бұрын
Thanks for watching! I am happy with the trailer frame, itself. We have updated it with a 3500lb axle and a set of radials since releasing the video. We didn't have any problems with the stock equipment, just needed a few more weeks to save up for those upgrades. For sure, if I wasn't so limited by money, I would build it on a larger trailer. It handles really well. We finally took it camping this past week and it did great. It has about 200 miles on it now and I have no complaints on the handling. If we imagine building it on a larger trailer, and a 6x10 goes for about $2200, I wouldn't have been able to afford the project at all. I have about $4500 in it. The HF trailers aren't the best, but they allowed for the build to happen and can be upgraded. One thing to note, is this camper is tiny in person. When a camera is up close to it, it makes it look larger on video. It's only ten feet long. My truck looks a lot bigger than the camper in person. I think the truck is sixteen feet, maybe. I am planning to build one for sale and that one will be built on a larger trailer. Thanks for the questions!
@MAD-wy8gh21 сағат бұрын
@@mikekrabal Thanks for detailed reply, but just to make it clear, HF trailer was just to get the project on a road and was not intended for a long term use? Since you replaced the axel, what's left... 1700lb frame? Do you think it would be possible to run 2x8 or 2x10 PT beams underneath and attach axel springs straight to wood, as the load of the structure is already fairly distributed and the only thing that you need to build is some A frame that goes into hitch.
@mikekrabal4 сағат бұрын
@@MAD-wy8gh I do plan to keep the HF frame under this particular camper. Meaning I don't plan to upgrade that part for as long as I own it. If a reason to change it arises, it can be unbolted and a new trailer could be slid under. Wiring would need updated and a new shower drain pvc line would need to be ran. I imagine there are guys out there that have tried attaching axel springs to wood. I haven't seen that yet, in video or in person. I'd like to. I'm honestly not comfortable enough with my skill to even try it. However, I can see how tempting that would be due to saving money on a trailer frame.

How much was the total cost of the build
@mikekrabal3 күн бұрын
Thanks for checking out the video. When folks have asked that, I make sure to mention that I had a very limited budget and was forced to use a Harbor Freight trailer, pine wood, lower costing materials, and leftovers whenever possible. I think the build would be closer to $8k+ if built to an ideal standard. For instance, using a better/larger trailer, better grade wood and sealers, window material, plywood instead of OSB, etc. A 6x10 trailer is around $2200 new. A HF trailer is about $550 new. The amount I spent is not really a reflection on what the material cost should be. With that, I spent roughly $4500, and have since upgraded the axle and tires to make it closer to $5k. Thanks again for the question and for watching!
