My 2nd favorite rendition of this song behind Carl Anderson, which is impressive cause there are some phenomenal Judases out there. I’ll never get over the high note at 3:34

Wow. That's... one hell of an interpretation. Drew is incredible, but the concept of Annas goading him into taking his life, and providing the gun... amazing and different. I'm amazed I never found this before.

Just wanted to reply cause it’s a weird crossover with JCS and a Marvel pfp, but it’s cool to see. Also I agree, the sudden gunshot makes this more disturbing, though I’m not sure which one I liked better. Also shoutout to that crazy note at 3:35

@@Phasmania Haha, thanks. I think I prefer the hanging because it has such a more... torturous aspect to it. And yeah I guess so... though I feel like the majority of my Marvel-enjoying (and especially Bucky-loving) friends are also musical theatre fans, too. I see a certain amount of similarity between Bucky/Winter's characterisation and that of Judas too, in some ways (as different as they are on the surface). They both end up being the ones dragged in to do everyone else's dirty work, being used as a puppet by the PTB (whether that's Hydra and SHIELD, or God and the High Priests), both ending up as a sidekick to a "saintly" person that everyone thinks is either amazing, or a huge danger to society, when in reality they're just a man with ideas above their station, as it were... and both end up feeling their guilt so profoundly for letting this person they love with every fibre of their being down that they think they don't deserve to live... I may or may not have a thing for tortured souls, especially if they have morally grey areas... though personally, I think Bucky was completely free of any responsibility for what he was made to do as Winter, because he was literally tortured and brainwashed and had his whole existence "wiped" (with what is basically hyper souped up ECT without the anaesthesia and paralysis to prevent the agonising pain and seizures) every few days when he "malfunctioned" (aka his own moral code began to break through the horrific procedures, no matter what they did).

This is the only performance I've seen that REALLY drives home why he commits suicide. At first the anger at Caiphus, the realization that he was manipulated by him, the guilt. And then the realization that Jesus knew all along, that he let this happen, let him be damned. The anger and guilt refueled. Betrayed from both sides and nobody else to turn to in his despair. An absolutely BRILLIANT performance.

Is it just me, or does it look like that while Judas is singing this, Jesus is fasting in the desert? In the Bible, this is when the Devil comes to Jesus to question His divinity and tempt Him into abusing His powers for selfish gain. And here we might have Judas signing directly to Jesus' ear as He fasts in the desert, about Jesus going down the wrong path. Brilliant!

I wasn’t a huge fan of Drew’s Jesus. It’s not that he didn’t have the range, but he did way too much riffing for my liking. Yeah, adding in some grace notes and riffing in music shows originality, but you don’t want to make the music you’re singing drag out for too long and sound completely different from what was written either. That was my main problem with Drew’s version of Jesus Christ for me. It seemed like he was trying to show off vocally too much for my liking, and while musical theater does involve doing that, it’s also not like singing pieces from a classical opera either. You want to get to the point. With Judas, on the other hand, Drew Sarich did a spectacular job! He’s definitely up there with Zubin Verla and Carl Anderson for me. His anger is raw without being overwhelming.
