I like this Nacelle design.. it feels like a leap forward in design lineage instead of just screwing around with plain old nacelles on pylons

That's a cool concept! They could even chain up additional modules between the command/hab front section, and the drive section.

I have often thought of a bridge in that concept, to see it actually done is amazing!

You might want to consider the windows. Unless they are massive compared to a person, there isnt going to be very much internal space
@HalcyonUniverse4 күн бұрын
A few things. First, you are probably right. Second, these are just procedural placeholders until the design is finalized. Also, as of right now, the ship is only two decks, so it's pretty small. And, they are indeed floor to ceiling windows, so they are pretty large. Thanks for watching!
@jeffery72815 күн бұрын
or you can make a ship that looked different while still keep in tradition profile, but have some difference in features that will let it looked fast. Like, extreme obvious (long) nacelles...

Nice but prefer concept 3
@craig60905 күн бұрын
I prefer the one in video titled FTL effect. Concept 3 is too Star Trek, this one with the middle nacelle is a little too much engine

really really like it but without the red constant moving lights. Overkill IMO but man the design is sweet.

this has a bit of an elite dangerous feel to it.. like if lakon had a type 11 or some kind of high end multicrew ship

It kinda resembles the shield effect on the Whitestar in Babylon 5
@musuko427 күн бұрын
I love the ripples! Makes me think that a large enough hit could indent the shield bubble far in enough to expose the hull. And now I'm curious as to how the enemy ship(s) might look!

Right now it’s going to be a series of short story animations. But all assets are created game ready so if there’s interest in a game, perhaps so. There is a Patreon, but I’m waiting to get a couple dozen videos and the first episode before I promote it.

Oh gosh, was that my suggestion? If it is, I'm really honoured to have helped! This truly does look amazing! Having those borders on the UI change colour to indicate the alert is inspired. I especially like how it looks on the sloped vertical parts of the curved console behind the captain's chair.
@HalcyonUniverse11 күн бұрын
Yep, pretty sure that was you. Thanks for the input! This project actually started out as a shuttle+ sized craft in Unreal Engine and has undergone several expansions as the scope increased. The ship has gotten big enough to where now i'm actually back to the position where I need to design a shuttle. Doh!
@musuko4211 күн бұрын
@@HalcyonUniverse Sooner or later, the shuttle will end up so large as well that it too will need a shuttle! It's shuttles all the way down! From a ship design standpoint, you're coming at it from a direction I really appreciate; you've started with a small ship and are only increasing its size as much as is necessary. That seems realistic to me. I can imagine the in-universe ship designers taking that exact same approach.

the little pricks of light on the "Nacelles" are odd touch but nice.
@universaljoint14 күн бұрын
I thought it was too busy at first, but pivoted when I considered that it's a small bridge. And yet it's still very clean looking. Overall, I like it. The things I don't care for are the bezel trim lighting, but it's not too that bad I guess. And the console behind the Captain... That works well with a ship like a Galaxy class because of the multi-level, but this is just someone hovering within less than a meter of the Captain... It's just too close... Otherwise, I quite like it. No lights in your face. Simple. Not needlesslessy oversized. The helm and conn are elegant. I even don't mind the insanely large main viewer (or is it a window?).

I wonder, for the sake of lore: Is this an unique ship and crew or they are part of some organization like in Star Trek with the Federation?
@HalcyonUniverse14 күн бұрын
Halcyon is one ship in a huge fleet that is part of an Intergalactic Union that spans hundreds of galaxies. Specifically, Halcyon is from a class of cutting edge ships designed for rapid response to emergent situations that require immediate attention, such as scientific phenomena, distress signals, and potential threats to the union.

I like to think that this is an alien species who found our star trek show and they liked it so much that they decided to base their society on it ad try to recreate it with their own superior technology.

I like this design; honestly I feel like this design kind of leans more into my point in the other video; where the need for diversifying the alien species list; I think this female officer being her own species completely unique from the Captain (since the latest design hints more at a similar motif to this one) can subtly but not so intrusively; expand the universe of this world you are building.

I actually preferred the old Captain design because it gave off Golden/Silver age comics design influences, I never saw him like what you suggested in the description to be honest.
@HalcyonUniverse18 күн бұрын
I think it's going to be really hard to nail down the captain. I have a few other concepts I want to try and I now have four eye stalks on one of the lieutenants, so I can't go too crazy with eye stalks. We will see. Everything is in flux right now. Thanks for subscribing!

@@HalcyonUniverse Anytime, from one person hoping to make their own sci-fi series to another; I wish you the best here. But I do understand the need to diversify alien designs and avoid the usual Star Trek style of “Human with ridges on face and maybe a different skin color” approach especially with the freedoms of CGI; but I feel with some texture updates and maybe a different mouth; the old design easily could have been worked on to be made even better I feel. Maybe even lean more into the snail like qualities of his design more; give him a snail-like mouth that speaks in a low like tremor like tone that has a delayed auto-translater/transcriber with an english language of sorts. Something that makes him a cross with your original design while adding something new.
