We’ve gotten diddly squat here in East Tennessee. It has been quite frustrating trying to establish a new lawn these past 10 months or so. After seeding last fall we didn’t get rain for at least a month and now this summer has been ridiculous. I’ll be surprised if I have any fescue left at all by the end of this.

Yeah it is not good. Pete got an order from me the other day preparing for how much I am going to be overseeding this fall. I lost 2 large areas because I didn't water due to not wanting a huge water bill. Oh well it is just grass the worst thing is I got to put more seed down this fall.
@georgewashington2890Күн бұрын
Relax, it's just grass. It's a COOl Season grass. It's not only the water it's the temperature. Some thoughts: Stay off of the grass. Don't water it. Watering might bring it of of dormancy but, if you can't really pour on the water that's very hard on the grass. Dormancy is a natural protective measure. If you don't get about.10 "" every two weeks you can hand water JUST TO KEEP THE CROWNS ALIVE. You don't need much to save them. ( It's now the sea k and Hydratien(sp) will work their magic!)You can use your hose end sprayer with a penetrate, you can use Dawn dish soap, the one with the duck (no anti-bacterial) at 2 oz per 1000 sqft. Do it early in the AM. Being a golfer watch how the greenkeepers syringe the greens when its +90. Just keeping the crowns alive. Don't over water remember it's about keeping the crowns alive. When the fall comes you'll find out the benefit of all of the work you did ahead of time. I spend 9 months getting the lawn ready for 3 months of summer. and other than hating that brown, the lawn comes right back and it's KBG! Don't get it to turn green! Better than even money with all of the work you did it will come back strong. DON"T USE ANY WEED KILLER. You can get them later. Just let it sleep!!! BTW we went 30+DAYS WITH NO RAIN and 95+ temps for 10 days straight. Even the tomatoes dropped their blossoms and fruit in spite water and mulch. ( Gettysburg PA) Thought about rain barrels?

I have a Tall fescue lawn i planted last fall (Barenburg water saver with RTF) and my front yard is doing great conpared to my back yard. The difference is i keep my front yard watered. I dont have irrigation so i use one aimpulse sprayer. I know they say your suppose to water your yard in the mornings but since this drout started i have been watering my lawn in the evening between 3:30 and dark. I consentrate on one section a day and do a deep watering one area per day, and my grass has flourished. I am using propaconazole and azoxystrobin to combat any fungus and so far i have no fungus. I live on the maryland eastern shore and we havent gotten any good rain in Over 6 weeks and its been terribly hot and humid. I wish i could post some pictures of my evening watered yard. It looks amazing compared to my back yard and neihbors yards that hasnt recieved any water i have the greenest (front) lawn on the block. And the only tall fescue lawn on my street. My semi watered tall fescue is doing waayyyy better then their burmuda right now. I do have some bermuda popping up now the prodiamine has worn off. I will be killing that off with Fusilade in august. FYI, if my math is right , you can save you alot of $$. You can make 14.5- 32 ounce bottles of ornemac 170 (@ 40-60 bucks per bottle) with one 32 ounce bottle of fusilade II for 89.00. And you can make 3.5 -32 ounce bottles of ornemac over the top with one 32 ounce bottle of fusulade II which has 24.5% of the same active ingredient vs ornemac 170 has 1.7% and ornemac over the top has 6.75% active ingredient.

What time of the day are you watering? It just hit me that in the videos that youre watering in its the hottest part of the day. Ideally i try to water at 5 am. I notice if i water in the hottest part of the day it basically evaporates more than soaking in. Especially with the type of sprinklers youre using. The style that i would suggest is the impact style (shhhh-tik-tik-tik 🤷 dont know how else to describe them lol) it forces the water into the ground better than the fan style. The fan style is superior in seeding times because it wont move the seed.
