Just beautiful. Her voice was, and is, original. Her poise. Her regalness has not yet been surpassed.

Very - Super Profoundly and Very - Super - Powerfully , He Reminds Me of , Jesse Powell , and With the Same Vocabulary , I Say , He is , Far - Better , than , Most of the , Professional - Singers , and , He Makes Me Want to , Say , Yes , I Am , Serious .
Had the privilege to see this fantastic musical …. It was Phyllis Hyman and Gregory Hines , that shined and turned that stage out! And to top it off, me and her friend had a chance to meet up with Ms.Phyllis Hyman and She Sang one of the songs that she wrote, COMPLETE ME…. We floated all the way back home from that joyous night!!! She was as beautiful inside and out, Love and miss your voice and presence in music!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

In 1985, as a high schooler, I played in a small jazz ensemble that had a running gig at Yoshi's Nitespot in Oakland. We played weekdays early evening shows playing mostly standards with only a few original songs. I remember a Thursday night gig where a woman with a HUGE hat was sitting in front of the stage with a few friends and we had just started playing Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair and just as I was going to start the lyrics, this enormous voice boomed from in front of the stage. This happened rarely, but one of the stage crew gave her a mic (she really didn't need it) and we switched from our standard charting of the song to follow what she was doing- including a key change. When she ended the song, she was introduced by the MC who mentioned her three nights of sold out performances the following three days at Yoshi's. She walked up to the stage and looked at our chart books picked a dozen songs and said, "Well come on, we've got a set to play." Almost 40 years later, that event is still amongst my most treasured memories. I met her only once more, in 1994 when I was working as a sound engineer and she stared at me for nearly 5 minutes trying to figure out who I was. Then she broke out laughing and told her band I was one of the kids from 'that show where I took over their set.' Apparently, we became one of her humorous stories to share. I can live with that.

This is one of the greatest performances from the amazing Luther vandross. In my opinion it seems like Luther is somehow forgotten. Amongst his many songs the only one we get to hear on the radio is Never too much. Please let's bring Luther back. He gave his all and all and it is right that we continue with his legacy.
