As I Gen Xer I have no nostalgia for the 90s. Those were dark years politically - neoliberalism, and very difficult financially - a challenge to get a job among the rolling cuts - the pop culture was very commercial - and the gulf wars perpetrated by the West - were terrible and seemed never to end. You couldn't talk about 'the economy' until 2011 - and Occupy War Street. Even though I think there are bad things happening now - I am glad we can name them and argue about them rather than - for those of us who are not mainstream in our thinking - being suppressed or considered ridiculous. I also had no affection for grunge. I did like Brian Eno, Talking Heads, The Smiths, Laurie Anderson - Tangerine Dream. Dreamy electronic music that awakens the mind or rediscovered reintegrated instrumental music from around the world brought to the West.

This was a very interesting and informative podcast. I have family in the East (Laos) and they ( Buddhist Monks) aren’t exempt from the same creepy sodomy type behavior that western priests have been found guilty of. It’s just never talked about or punished. I would never send my son to a Buddhist monastery especially with the idea I was finding a safe place for them to grow spiritually. There is nothing ritualistic that can bring about Truth. Christ gave parable after parable simplifying finding true peace.

40 minutes in Derrick talks about a "mule" getting hurt so the "I" could not get hurt. I'm talking from reading here, but the reading says that the "mule" ends up with considerable resentment, and intrudes it upon the person evermore. Or at least until "integrated," however, I'm not sure how often integration actually happens.

At 30 minutes in, I can't tell if Derrick says characteristics, or characters. I think he said earlier that he didn't have multiple personalities, but I was wondering what each of you thought about that since its MPD is a contentious diagnosis and Derrick did mention dissociation (part of the new name for MPD).
@alexanderleuchte5132
@alexanderleuchte5132 Ай бұрын
The difference is that DID doesn't mean "multiple personalities" but not even one complete one Dissociation on a pathological level is a normal trauma response and a symptom of several disorders in variing degrees
@chadreilly
@chadreilly Ай бұрын
@@alexanderleuchte5132 I didn't mention DID per se, as Derrick just mentioned dissociation, but DID (dissociative identity disorder) exactly means MPD. Diagnostically one is the new name for the other. You could argue that that the alters are parts, and therefore not quite full personalities, I guess, but that seems semantic. DID/MPD is per the DSM the most severe degree of dissociation. I did just start a new book, however, that's suggesting it's more normal than not. However, the author, Fadiman, might have taken too much LSD, lol

@@alexanderleuchte5132 OK, just watched it, and heard the quote. I think he's giving more or less his professional opinion, which again I would say is contentious. "Try to Remember" by McHugh gives a very good skeptics account, which agrees somewhat with your vid. Seems it became quite the fad in the 80s and 90s. I think now it's probably underdiagnosed/appreciated. Honestly, until I witnessed it recently I thought was just a thing from the movies. I was like, "woah, this is more than bipolar."

@@chadreilly There seem to be still two versions of this, a serious trauma survival mechanism side and spectacular switches and cool alters with fancy names side. It's funny here on YT a person "DissociaDID" was pretty much proven to be a fraud a few years ago, took a break and now does the same schtick again it seems. Many people love this stuff

I don’t really know how much of this I’ll watch. I find his whole approach to liberalism absolutely nauseating! If it weren’t for liberals, he would not be sitting on a KZfaq channel or any place else being so proud to be a gay Republican. He might still be a Republican, but he’d be in some closet married. The misrepresentation and blaming of liberals in America by the right is so disgusting and I’m sorry that you’re using your channel which shares so many wise teachers and such good information, to perpetuate right wing BS at a time when fascism is on the rise and prominent Republicans are calling for the reversal of gay rights and some calling for far worse than that. I'm 72:years old and gay and I know how we got to a point historically where he can have the freedom to be so vulgar.

The Ketamine part rang true for me. I have a friend who struggles with a lot of issues and swears by ketamine therapy. I asked her one time to describe her experience and what she gets out of it. She couldn't really give me a straight answer on either, just that she wants to keep going back. Well its been over 2 years and by her own admission, she hasn't experienced any significant help from it. To me, it just sounds like she might be addicted. I think back to the late 90s when I was in the rave scene and K was a dirty drug I saw a lot of people fall into a hole with. I never imagined it would one day be used for therapy.

It was very painful to learn about some of the experiences that were shared, but it was very soulful because of this and very inspiring to see how you have both courageously individuated and give so much to the world.
