They found a way to save her in Season 2: the Doctor copied her program onto an EMH backup module like the one from Living Witness.

The Texas was clearly well suited for combat and basic fetch and run missions, they could have been extremely helpful but second contact may involve very complicated unraveling of political or social issues, it would have never worked out

He embodied “Speak softly, and carry a big stick.” Having the biggest means knowing when not to use it, that’s why Pike is awesome.

The best score from the best movie for the best season.... They weaved both new and old together in such a respectful way.

Firing on the Admiral's ship is not a particularly good idea! It's just lucky that Janeway had the restraint to cripple the Protostar. Her ship was substantially better armed and could easily blow the Protostar to pieces. Once it was out of warp and at a slower speed, she could deal with the occupants; Starfleet cadets with a holographic training version of herself. The Dauntless was crewed by fully trained, free thinking and experienced crew; commanded by an admiral who had spent 7 years in the Delta Quadrant and fought more battles than they had hot dinners. The odds were not exactly in the Protostar crew's favour!

A possible explanation: considering photon torpedoes move at light speed and phasers move at a third of light speed I can't imagine point defence weapons would do much good as you are being hit before any countermeasures could ever be deployed. If there is an enemy that uses missile / projectile based weapons they are more than slow enough for phasers to deal with and unlikely to penetrate shields. In other Scifi shows that use point defence systems such as Babylon 5 or the Expanse, I adore seeing such things and the realism of those shows, but their weapons systems are decidedly lower tech than what the federation and its rivals use.

The best part is a lot of these ships, like the Alhambra, were ships the Cerritos helped in the past. When they needed help, the Cerritos came. When the Cerritos needed help... THEY ALL CAME.

The funny thing is, the Federation tries to peaceful, yet a single Constitution Class ship like the Enterprise has enough firepower to level a city. Without using her torpedoes, just the phasers. She is capable of burning a continent with her full potential and speaking of potential, imagine what a Intrepid or Sovereign class can do. By the time of Deep Space Nine, the NCC-1701 is an hopelessly outdated vessel and still capable of wiping out a civilization if push comes to shove.

The First Contact theme is my favourite in the history of Star Trek. In my imagination, there's something about that French horn solo that sounds like what your mind or heart may hear atop a lonely mountain peak with a clear view of both the future and the past. Its use as the theme for Season 3 of Star Trek: Picard couldn't possibly have been more perfect.

Shaw is a grease monkey who wants keep things orderly and stable. for every captain like Picard or Riker running around being a cowboy main character, there’s a guy like Shaw making sure the relays and space stations and other infrastructure is working. of course he doesn’t wanna help these two old farts do one last crazy mission.

Contrary to the toxic opinions I saw below, I'd just like to say that I found this scene heartwarming. This shows Star Trek as it's meant to be - a pushback against the small-mindedness that can happen when we let our reptilian hindbrains take over.

When I first saw a Star Trek clip featuring Stacey Abrams as President of United Earth I started laughing as I already was rewriting the scene in my head. I was hoping (but not expecting) the scene to be interrupted by the computer voice... "beep-beep. Crewman Abrahms...", it begins as the background around her dissolves into the familiar illuminated grid of the holodeck, "...please report to the children's play area on deck 4 for a clean-up detail... Bring your mop bucket."
