@@DriveSmartDash I am ok a bit stressed. Got the Ford Ka fixed today, cost me £101, it was mis-firing hence the juddering. He replaced some of the coils connected to the spark plugs and the engine igniter and it's fixed the problem. Managed to get my test from Nov 19th to Oct 25th but will keep checking and hopefully get it closer again.

@AlexMitchell-sj4sb oh that's good about the test date! But I feel your pain with the garage bill - the joys of owning a car eh! My hubby had been quite handy at diagnosing & fixing any minor problems with the cars we've had, but he doesn't keep in so much good health these days, so I've had one or two visits to the garage and got a shock when we got the bill sent through!! It's mostly the labour you're paying for though. Don't get me wrong - I'm just so grateful to them when I get my car back again & all's sorted!! And we've got a local trustworthy garage that we're on first name terms with all the mechanics, a really nice bunch, so that helps 😊👍

The rule changes introduced a couple of years ago are confusing, ill-thought-out, and unworkable. Thankfully, there appears to be no penalty for ignoring them.
@uzijnКүн бұрын
The penalty is less confidence in the Highway Code and higher risk on the roads. If someone gets knocked down over confusion with the new rules, that's a pretty hefty penalty.
@RayScarr69Күн бұрын
I have to disagree with this one. The risk of being passed on that wide section by someone not aware of the situation, or even being rear ended by someone not paying attention, outweighs the benefit in my opinion. The pedestrian didn't have a right of way here, clearly didn't expect to be given priority, and other road users would similarly be unexpecting of someone stopping on the exit to a roundabout. I would've let the pedestrian cross when they felt it was safe to do so, probably very soon after I'd carried on my momentum and driven past them.
@DriveSmartDashКүн бұрын
@RayScarr69 actually you are right on this one - I checked the Highway Code (Rule 187) and it states "In all cases, watch out for & give plenty of room to pedestrians who may be crossing the approach or exit roads" - I honestly thought that (if it was safe to do so) you should allow pedestrians to cross - that's why in this particular clip, I checked my rear view first and luckily the 2 cars behind me weren't going particularly fast, so they had time to stop when they seen my brake lights come on. But I hold my hands up ✋️ - I should have just carried on, at least there were no problems this time and now I know (for next time) that I don't "have to" stop!! Anyway, thanks for your comment 😊👍
@chrispop99Күн бұрын
Actually pedestrians and cyclists should be given priority at the mouths of junctions under HWC rule H2. Rule H2 - Rule for drivers, motorcyclists, horse drawn vehicles, horse riders and cyclists At a junction you should give way to pedestrians crossing or waiting to cross a road into which or from which you are turning.
@DriveSmartDashКүн бұрын
@chrispop99 Yeh, but in this instance, we're talking about roundabouts - I always give priority to pedestrians when entering or exiting from a side street for instance, but I think there's confusion (for a few people I've spoken to) when it comes to roundabouts 😖 so, I'm still none the wiser!! 😫
@chrispop99Күн бұрын
@@DriveSmartDash The entrance/exit to a roundabout is still considered the mouth of a junction. FWIW, I took part in the public consultation regarding this, and was strongly against this change, because I believe it will cause more problems than it will solve.I say this as a pedestrian/cyclist/driver.
@uzijnКүн бұрын
@@chrispop99 Copy and pasting my comment here for the convenience of others reading this chain: I interpret that as not applying to roundabouts as it’s not really a road you’re turning from or to, whereas a side road clearly applies. With this uncertainty, I maintain that the safer option is to continue on your way.

@@DriveSmartDash some places in the world not only must you stop for pedestrians but it is illegal to stop in a roundabout. You either have to not enter until your exit is clear. Or if like in this case you cannot see your exit when you enter you would be stuck going round and round and round until you can leave.
@DriveSmartDash2 күн бұрын
@lukeorlando4814 They only introduced this rule a few years ago, that you "should" stop at the entrance or exit of a junction (this included roundabouts) to allow pedestrians to cross, but sometimes I think it could be dangerous if traffic is travelling quite fast behind you!! 😉👍
@RayScarr69Күн бұрын
@@DriveSmartDash Can you point to this rule? I only remember it being when turning onto a side road, which I would argue is not the case in this clip. Plus pedestrians only have priority once they're in the road, right?

Went up with my wife and son there first time in 2022 and she loves it now, especially the drive through Glencoe. We went in February and the top of hills all covered in snow and even though weather was wild it was still magical.

There are two types of mistakes, the first being a genuine “Oops, I didn’t see that sign” as happened to me when my sat nav said turn left but priorities had changed at the junction meaning no left turn was permitted (aborted the turn before fully committing) and the second mistake is when people know they aren’t allowed but continue anyway. The way they took the corner says to me they are in the second category and probably best they turned off before you reached them and they tried to navigate the parked cars 😁

You're missing the point here - I only asked the question to the cycling community, which has already been explained to me. I don't have a problem with cyclists (both my sons are cyclists). And of course I wouldn't overtake on this particular twisty road, as 1. I wasn't in any hurry that morning, 2. didn't want to risk another vehicle coming in the opposite direction, and 3. I got passed further down the road once it straightened out, so all good 😊👍
