How do you do those intros with the render of the world? Like the one at 0:30. They look so cool
@ChuggersLRКүн бұрын
It's a program I wrote in unity to turn heightmaps into meshes, then I texture them using a screenshot of the world. I set up a thing to spawn trees on land, and made a camera controller to animate through the world. I'll have to do a video on the process at some point, seems like a lot of people are wondering how it's done

Have you considered playing with the JGR patch in order to be able to build signals on bridges and in tunnels? Would save you having to double up your tunnels and bridges everywhere x)
@ChuggersLRКүн бұрын
I would love to be using JGR for this type of stuff, but I try to keep the gameplay for this channel as close to vanilla as possible.
@rennaaa6667Күн бұрын
what are those small loops with combo signals near track merges, how do they work?
@ChuggersLRКүн бұрын
They give one lane of the merge right-of-way, so any trains coming from that direction will have priority to merge before the other merging lane

Not gonna lie, I've expected you to fork OpenTTD to add an actual ring map and then make a 3D rendition of it as a Mobius strip. Maybe next time.

A couple days to record gameplay, around 2 weeks or so to do the editing. Can only manage around 3-5 minutes of editing a day depending on the quality of my voicing so it's not really a constant process

This video is fantastic! As a (very) amateur OpenTTD player, I could understand everything you were doing well enough, and the things I didn't you explained to a point where I could at least pretend I did. Made me pick up the game again! Although unfortunately, I don't have the same commitment you do to a runthrough :( The thing I'm impressed by is how you make creating junctions seem almost effortless. Figuring out where trains are going and coming from to properly fill out the junction gives me such a headache that I often take shortcuts, which of course end up biting me when the network gets saturated with trains. How do you do it? Is there some secret I don't know about??? My throughput suffers as a result of my laziness! Again, great video! I'm excited to watch the ringworld one next!
@ChuggersLR3 күн бұрын
Junctions come with practice! After a while you'll pick up on similar patterns and ways to save space. I definitely recommend tackling the left turns first, as they have the most crossovers.

hey is City Mania the only client you are using? I'm wondering how I can get 27 tile long trains too! lol
@ChuggersLR4 күн бұрын
The train length is an in-game setting you can change in any version (at least I'm pretty sure), just search "length" in the settings and you should see some kind of maximum train length setting. Pretty sure it goes all the way to 64 tiles? not exactly sure though.

the name generation is very interesting. seems like most of the cities are trying for nordic, but "pappsaker" is "cardboard things"
@ChuggersLR4 күн бұрын
I set it to generate Swedish town names, although the name generator is pretty lackluster for any language. Seems to just combine a random prefix and suffix, and sometimes plop a "City" or "Town" at the end

You know, when Factorio 2.0 and the Space Age DLC come out, I almost shudder to imagine what kind of monstrous transport logistics system you'll come up with if you start playing the game, especially with the new elevated rails, but at the same time I can't help but try to imagine how glorious such things would be to witness, maybe a ringworld map like this one, but its a factory that must grow ever longer and longer but at some point will run into train speed bottlenecks at immense train lengths even with dozens of trains per rail route. At least you can use depots that store up extra trains that only enter the network when needed and trains can switch routes to whatever station is closest and is currently in need of pickup.

One thing you can do to connect little 1-2 industry side lines to the mainline without major junction spaghetti is to only connect it to 1-2 lanes while the other mainline lanes bypass it. Runs a small risk of clogging one lane but then you just need to use a different lane or provide some lane-switch opportunities.
@highjumpstudios23844 күн бұрын
Oh no. I just realized that due to the shape of the ring world, the two cities are right next to one another geographically but cannot trade with one another easily.

It just occured to me, but now I'm curious if anyone knows: Do oil rigs' production also get affected by the vehicle's speed?
@ChuggersLR5 күн бұрын
I'm assuming they do, because they use the same ratings system as player-built stations. I took a look at my backups over the course of building, they definitely did raise in production over time. They didn't grow very high though, the speed of the boats is far below what is required to gain any rating points. Edit: I'm doubting that boats can take advantage of the "waiting in station" rating points either, as there's no "station" for them to wait in. That being said, I'm not too familiar with boat mechanics so I don't know for sure. Most of the oil rigs on this map are stuck at 67%

0:50 i hate when people use this "trick" to increase station cover range instead using bus to pass passengers to main station Also to let city grow You only need max 5 stations, and grid road isnt the faster option for city grow
