I am a Top 40 kind of person and I prefer my Monarch stereo radio station copy of "Your Move" to any of the album version. They make it too long and drawn out. Atlantic Records' main push was the 45rpm singles. They'd chop up any song to fit on a 3 minute single. The stereo 45rpm radio station copy of "Roundabout" is my favorite version. Joe Regoso IS Friday Music, it's not just left to him to do the mastering. 45 rpm is not always the best speed to release an album on. Like Carole King's "Tapestry" album, ORG did a 45 rpm version of the album but the OG pressed by Columbia, Santa Maria, sounds better to me. I've got a 33 1/3 rpm version from Classic Records, but when Mofi did a single 33 1/3 rpm LP version it beats them all. To me Mofi's 45rpm "Tapestry" isn't as good as their 33 1/3 rpm version.

I went back and it is actually so really low level rumble in the lead in that was evident there more so than the other sides as it has the vocal only start of I’ve Seen All Good People. The lead in on all sides has a bit of that as well, but side 3 was most obvious. Whereas the AP was dead quiet.

Thank you generous viewer! I wasn’t aware of the Friday version until it was too late, and promptly forgot it existed. I guess I’m glad about that! My copies are OG US and recentish GB pressing. My OG US pressing was on nearly every picnic spinner I’ve owned since 1972 so it is far too ancient/scary to play! Still sounds like the Friday version is a potential improvement over some of the earlier 33’s. I haven’t been too enamored with the SW remixes save for JT, and think he killed Dukes of Stratosphear. Nice!

@@Robbo-eh3wb "The Kick album was recorded to one of the early an Otari 32-track digital recorders, “but slaved to Studer 800 MK3" so it is fair to presume the original was cut to vinyl from digital but I’ve never seen that confirmed. Many recordings in the 80s were recorded to both. As a matter of fact, on these sessions, the digital failed at times while the analog tape was 100% in tact. So it makes one wonder how the end product was put to vinyl.

Outstanding review. Just wanted to share with you. I just received my copy of the Yes "Relayer " album from the Rhino Fidelity Releases yesterday, and my first impression of listening is " Perfect." I have had multiple copies releases from an original U.S copy I bought back in 1974 to the Friday Music and the Steven Wilson remix release years back, and I have to admit the Rhino release is the best. The music is simply amazing. The mix sounds very clean and even. The album cover is glossy, with thick cardboard, similar to the Analog Productions releases. The album cover has the original Roger Dean artwork, and it comes with a liner note sheet, a lyric sheet, and an OBI strip. The back cover has numbered copies up to 5000. So, if you plan on doing an album review for the Yes " Relayer " album, you will not be disappointed. Thanks for sharing 👍 cheers from Indiana.

@SafeAndSoundTXAudioExcursion Good point with reference to Rick Wakeman. But I will tell Patrick Moraz did an amazing job on the Relayer album. My first Yes concert was back 1976, The Solo's tour. Which was an outstanding concert. It was so great to have Wakeman return to Yes in the fall of 1976 and start with recording "Going for the One " and with my personal all-time favorite track " Awaken " . Thanks for the post.

I'm still waiting for my copy of this 75th Anniversary edition. Music Direct hasn't even shipped it yet. I do have some 7" 45's by INXS and six of the songs from the "Kick" LP are on those singles. Some of them are Canadian promo 45's and the rest are U.S. copies which were all pressed at Specialty Record Corp. I have several copies which have "Need You Tonight" on them. One is a test pressing of the retail version, one is a promo copy and I have 2 copies of the retail version with picture sleeves. I also have 2 retail copies of "New Sensation" with picture sleeves. The Canadian promo of this song also includes a radio remix edit. The radio edit version is actually 2 seconds longer than the retail singles or the LP version. I've also got a Atlantic Oldies Series of "What You Need" which isn't on "Kick".They all sound really great to me and I will compare them with the new LP when I get it.

From what I have read this was a digital recording - so it seems. There is a good article on mixonline about the making of the album. Sounds like AP nailed it again. It's nice that after so very long these remastered releases are finally living up to expectations. UHQR's aside I had given up for the most part, save for MoFi's of records I'd worn out for decades. The budget friendly Atlantic Series have more than lived up to expectations. On the downside, my wallet ain't happy! On a semi-related note, some good news about Rhino. I had ordered a few records, mostly so I could get free shipping on Devo's Freedom Of Choice. I received my package, and it appeared they slightly changed the box to have extended wings. Every record was in perfect shape, but they forgot Devo! I emailed support, was immediately contacted back with an apology, then a "shipped" notice the following morning. Emailed Monday, received Wednesday. Out of 3 previous shipments, 2 came with slightly bent corners, but not enough to complain. So it seems they're listening! I responded with a thank-you.

This is my 9th AP 75 issue and it is the first that I am not wholly convinced about. Compared to my early (but not first) UK pressing there is undoubtedly more body and punch with an altogether fuller soundstage. Where I am less enthused is in the upper frequencies which, to my ears, sound a little harsh. Indeed on my first play of the album I had the letters CD spinning in my head............................clearly there is no digitisation involved in this 1975 recording but it appeared to be creating the same fatigue for me.
