Glad to see the drivers of the fiery Caterhams getting out relatively ok. But a very poor response for whatever reason by rescue teams, (and before I'm attacked, I am a competitor, I know they are usually brilliant etc etc) but whatever about a minute for the fire vehicle, 2 minutes before the ambulance (if it was one)is very poor. I fear it's one of the problems of modern circuits, car park sized gravel traps, not enough marshals who aren't allowed leave posts etc but it's a bit scary to see. On top of that, we've seen several incidents over the years (the afformentioned unshown shunt, the one at brands a couple of years back) with 7 style cars where they have been rear ended and gone on fire. More needs to be done around the fuel tank I think. On a lighter note, it's good to see neither driver added to their repair bills by using their on board, very expensive (and utterly useless in a real fire like that) fancy plumbed in extinguishers 😂
@PescaraProductions2 күн бұрын
I can't be totally certain if it was ever addressed, but I watched a chap pass away there a few years ago after he came to a stop on the inside and succumbed to a heart attack, and I always wonder if anything could have been done had their been marshals on the inside of that corner. Perhaps that's unfair and playing devil's advocate, but the problem is the same. Not enough marshals and no real incentive to get them to show up. Not their fault, I frankly think the sport should give more back and should have started after the fatality at Brands years ago. The extortionate cost of motorsport really has to start giving back. And not going towards things like extensions of tracks in Spain🤔. I do wonder what Caterham can do if anything. I'm sure they'll work something out, this whole racing thing is their big earner I should think, but hard to engineer much when the car is so short at the rear. Probably not enough time to fire the onboard fire extinguisher and as you say maybe not much point. The one in my car points directly at my eyes so I know that wouldn't be much help either 😂
@adamjackson34363 күн бұрын
Poor response from the fire crews im sorry. Took them a minute to get there. Very lucky that wasn't worse!
@PescaraProductions3 күн бұрын
Understaffed marshal wise I have been told but its not a unique issue and if I'm honest it is getting worse. God knows what it'll be like this weekend with the F1 on and big events at Mallory, Cadwell and Harewood to name a few. They're gonna have to do something about it soon because smaller events are gonna get squeezed out to the point where you'll lose them. Whether that's the country getting their finger out and finally deciding to actually throw some of the constantly rising cost that comes from a competitors pocket their way or some other scheme I don't know. But it's a little worrying now. There is simply too much on most weekends and some sort of incentive is gonna have to be offered
@adamjackson34363 күн бұрын
@PescaraProductions If thats the case then surely there is a point where it is dangerous to run events. And why is there a guy stood directly opposite it with a flag not going to help put either the car or driver out?
@timburton10803 күн бұрын
@@adamjackson3436 because everyone has a role defined in such an event, and warning ongoing cars was his. They don't know that there isn't a slow running car coming up at racing speed.
@adamjackson34362 күн бұрын
@timburton1080 If they can only spare 1 guy per post to wave the flag and nobody else to actually help out then I'd argue that's not the best place for an event to be ran under. I'm not knocking the guy if that's the job he has to do, but he should have someone with him surely?
@SnoodyMcFlude2 күн бұрын
@@adamjackson3436easy to stand and point fingers, but difficult to accurately comment on specifics unless you're there and know the reasons why decisions are made. There is a growing problem with getting marshals (particularly with experience) to staff events. Most hillclimbs I do will now have something in the entry form for competitors if they want to make a voluntary contribution to a marshal's fund, but guaranteeing payment is difficult when a lot of events are already so close to break even or running at a loss

It happened 4 years ago at the old hairpin and it remains the only thing I've ever filmed that will never be seen (unless he asks me to) on this channel due to a graphical nature. Similar accident, fuel poured into the cockpit and the driver clambering out on fire. Worse than this one! Screaming in agony whilst rolling around on the ground. Put me off watching for the rest of the day. The driver recovered, went out and built another one and went back racing! Not sure what Caterham can do about it really without making the car bigger

@ZetecinsideMotorsport @ZetecinsideMotorsport Sad to hear you're still dealing with the after effects of that crash. I do wonder what can be done in future from a safety standpoint. The cone situation is not ideal but the track limits particularly there do need to be enforced pretty well. Perhaps those floppy markers would be better suited to the task. And I was quite surprised how much you moved about in the car. Is that something that can be addressed with different belts or seats or is that simply how much you can expect to be thrown about at such a pace. You sort of lose the sense of speed these cars will do at that corner so it's tricky to tell. I hope the MSA gave you the copy of the crash they took off me

@PescaraProductions15 күн бұрын
Well I've heard that one of the drivers asked the regular there. But I'm not sure why as everyone walked away and again from an investigatory standpoint it's one you'd probably need to have around. Particularly when it comes to future safety installments like putting those foam bales there. Could those have lessened the impact, or would they have launched the car as they often do? I'd argue that's a pretty big question you could debate. If they've asked for it not to be seen that's understandable but there's a lot of people filming there and I suppose you can't ask them all.
