It's pretty well known by now, but the scene with the white wig was actually how Ninja Theory approached developing the whole reboot. There was a, now taken off KZfaq, GDC conference from some of the devs that worked on this game going over how they wanted the reboot to be the exact opposite of the prior games because Ninja Theory thought they were stupid and that Dante looked like a "gay cowboy". They had slides that read "Dante is: *picture of that weirdo edgelord from Chronicle*" and "Dante isn't: *movie poster for Broke Back Mountain*". It wasn't great. But you might be wondering: "Why would Capcom come to a Western developer who clearly hated the source material to reboot one of their classics?" I don't know, man. It's especially weird since the reboot came out after DMC4, so we can't blame it on the rough time Japanese developers had working with the 360s hardware. And it's not like Ninja Theory approached Capcom, Capcom came to them for the reboot. I guess it was a lack of confidence in their in-house developed projects?

I can recognize why this game wasn't everyone's cup of tea but it is my favorite of the franchise and it isn't even close. And it's my favorite because it's the only time I've ever cared about the story and characters rather than just enjoying the gameplay. The scene in which cat gets captured when you are trapped in limbo unable to interfere and rescue her despite all of your powers. During the hostage transfer I was legitimately nervous that Virgil was going to shoot cat to remove Dante's weakness as he saw it. And at the end of the game when you end up fighting Virgil it is the only time that I've actually not wanted to fight him because I had grown to enjoy the dynamic between the brothers and seen them fall apart like that actually was upsetting

I actually think Classic Dante does try to be cool, it just fails every time and we’re sort of in on the joke. Like his dorky ass trying to turn on the jukebox in 3, he’s only doing that to show off, it fails spectacularly, even the demons pause for a bit. Thats endearing, even the Smokin’ Sexy Style beast can botch it.

dmc dmc always bothered me with the ending Vergils just right, since both demons and humans are in one world if he doesnt rule the demons will, like theres no evil behind his intentions or anything, heck its just half of what theyve been doing, Dante immediently takes what vergil says and blows it out of proportion to justify a Dante V vergil fight, even tho the story spent its entire run claiming vergils powers were weaker and he was less skilled at fighting
