At that time, RF-7 IIs, Wharfedale Evo 4.4, and Magnepan LRS's. It struggled with the LRSs at higher volumes. I would even say the A300 is better suited for the maggies as it has higher current. I am not saying the XPA-2 GEN 3 is a bad amp by any means. I still have it to this day.

Hey scottyo! Thanks for the video! I’m really considering this to my system as I have 2 focal 248s that my Marantz Cinema 40 lacks power to drive. I want to have both cinema and music quality and that’s why I was considering the DR-2! But I don’t have XLR pre outs on my amp and as you said it it’ll ruin it.. Do you think it’s a waste and I should go with the XPA? Thanks man!
@scottyo64
@scottyo64 6 ай бұрын
Lack of XLR doesn't "ruin" it but there is more potential that won't be used. The XPA-2 GEN 3 is a very good amp. Mine powers the left and right in my home theater set up. I have no plans to change it. My DR-1s are in my 2 channel system. Some days powering LRSs some my Cornwalls

For me, certain types of music sounded good through them. I enjoyed them while I had them, but they were laid back on the high end, forward on the mid, but bass was enjoyable. The whole time I had them, it just felt like something I wasn't going to get used to. I had a hard time selling them even though they were in excellent condition. Just remember, everyone has different tastes, and the 4.4s were not my cup of tea.

Tried different seating heights and different toe in's, but they always felt lacking. When I went to sell them, I wasn't able to recoup much of the money spent. They were in excellent shape, boxes manuals, everything, and I finally let them go for $800. I went and bought a pair of Cornwall IVs they may end up being my last pair for my 2 channel system. I have a pair of Definitive BP-7006's driven by a Yamaha RX-V663 A/V receiver and in of itself, it's not a bad little setup for listening to music in my garage but, I was thinking that the Emotiva XPA-2 Gen 3 stereo power amp would be the best value to kick the stereo signal up from 90 watts to 300 watts per channel using the Yamaha's pre-amp outputs. Thoughts? Great video! Thank you.
@scottyo64
@scottyo64 Жыл бұрын
My thoughts? I don't believe it would make a big difference, and you might be disappointed. Here is what I can tell you. More "head room" with power is never a bad thing. Also, and some people will disagree with me, I have found with higher power amps I get better sound coming in at a lower volume. I now get good sound long before I piss off the neighbors. Anyway, that is my take. Dont hesitate if there is anything else

I am looking to purchase mono blocks and am seriously considering the DR1s. The price is reasonable compared to many mono amps. I have an RME dac that I use as a pre amp, it has balanced outs and works great, but may consider an actual preamp. My wife loves the Magnaplainers (sp?) We may be looking into that also, but I want to get the back end squared away before I buy new speakers. I would hate to plug in my new speakers and they don't perform because the amps are weak. Takes the joy out of new speakers to me, I love the initial "WOW!" Hate working backwards. Thanks for the video.

Amps are far from weak. They do a very good job powering the Magnepan's. Some people are not found of Emotiva, but I love my DR1's. My Emotiva gear has and will continue to be my main system. I do have Cornwall IVs now, but switch the maggies in every so often for a change of pace. Edit: at 1,000 watts into 4 ohms, I have never had issues playing the maggies even at high volume levels.

Hey, Scotty. Glad ya picked up a Record Doctor VI. It’s a great unit. I bought one about a yr ago. I’m sure you’ve heard of a million different cleaning fluids, but my friend Patrick (The Vinyl Archivist) worked with an organic chemist for years. After much trial and error, he went with a mixture of Tergikleen and Ilfotol. You only add like 30 drops of each to a gallon of distilled water, and you’ve got tons of fluid. Put some in a spray bottle and you’re ready to go. My records (used and new) not only have extreme clarity, but the entire sound opens up. It’s amazing. Have a good one, Scotty! 🔊😊🎶

These crush the Klipsch RF7 in most Music, how Wharfedale managed to make these babies and the 4C center so affordable is both impressive and enigmatic, since the entire line uses AMT Tweeter, you'd have to pay double up for that Tech in pretty much any other brand. There is not much else to look at than the Evo 4.4 Set for this price class, the only thing holding it back is the mildly undersized Sub, for more impactful performance, add something like the Arendal 1723 1V.
