God I know this feeling so well. This is what a true fighter does when he finally sees past the narcissistic mask (or even BPD). To deny the narcissist your eyes is to deny them the attention that they desperately demand. Her behavior likely pressed him to research the behavior as it was abnormal to even troubled relationships. It takes great courage to individuate when the narcissist fights tooth and nail to maintain the snapshot that they create of you in the initial love bombing phase of a relationship. He's been an example of courage in my eyes, being an experiencer, myself.
