This is a beautiful piece of film. I love the contrast of the colorful sails against all the backgrounds. Plus Genes epic sound track is a bonus. ❤

Hard to beat that striking color! To be clear though ... the soundtrack was not my work (although it was work to find the right songs!) .. see the description! It was pretty weird though ... I made all the edits, then looked for music. When I finally found the pieces I likes, that had the right length, I discovered that the edits were really really close to being "on the beat". Neat.

Thanks, Gene for your prompt response. You pretty much told me everything I wanted to know. But I was hoping they might have improved it over the years. I would be going alone and the shape of my car is a consideration. It's true it was mostly an adventure and after Hoaglin I barely recall a car coming the other way until I got within a few miles of Covelo. It wasn't at all a slog, but 36 -Bridgeville -Blocksburg-Alderpoint Garberville or if there's time- Bell Springs is a gorgeous ride!
@MizamookАй бұрын
Have fun out there. I will admit I'm envious ... I now live in a town (Gustavus Alaska) with no back roads to speak of, and nowhere to drive to. Also: When I was talking of Covelo I think I was conflating it with Paskenta/Platina ... it's rougher over there. I dont' recall creek crossings on the Covelo side. If you do Mendo Pass, that's usually good road but I've only seen it in winter (snow!). IN the meantime, don't forget Sherwood Road out of Willits, drops to 101 north of the turn to Covelo.

Hi Gene! Thank you for this! I did this 10 years ago in the summer in a Legend. I had vw bus's in the 60's and 70's. It looks like good dirt here.I I started up Bell Springs rd. to Alderpoint , across to Zenia and down to Covelo. I saw a bear cub, scurry away from the road. I remember fording some streams easily closer to Covelo. I'm thinking of doing it in a few days in my Prius. Do you think there would be some problems in clearance in any spots? Always nice to see others who enjoy these treks as much as me!
@MizamookАй бұрын
Hi Kirk, well, cool. I think Mina Road/Kettenpom, all that, is certainly Prius-able. Some of the creek crossings out Covelo way could be really dodgy. The only thing I've heard from Prius owners is that the clearance is minimal, and they were talking about stuff I would not think twice about in a VW, which has, if I am guesstimating properly, about 3x as much, at least. Plus, these dirty old buses are not likely to show a new scratch or dent so easily ... the Prius might not fare so well. But ... I would not say don't do it ... nor would I say you could not. Just have your butt covered just in case, especially if alone, and have fun! I haven't seen those roads since 2014, so keep that in mind, too. Wait .. 2014? Egad! It's been a decade since I've attended the Shasta Trip! Tempus fugit!

Lol! As teenagers we use to get more air in a 71 Monte Carlo that had the engine and transmission removed and we would take a tractor and loader and push it down the pipeline hill and bounce across the creek at the bottom. No helmets, no seatbelts! We just put our feet against the dash and braced for the impact.

He definitely looks like he could be a handful. Mind you I don’t think that there’s a bird out there that isn’t a handful. I always get so freaked out when I see people that look at these little clips and think oh I have to get myself a parrot I would love nothing more than to have a parrot. Never ever wanted one not on my radar at all until I discovered Griffi the dancing cockatoo. Griffi was a naked Goffins Cockatoo. Her story was heartbreaking, so much trauma😢. She had plucked herself so badly. This lovely couple fostered and then wound up adopting her. Sadly, she passed away last year. That is when I got absolutely crazy for birds. I wanted to know everything about them. And what I learned was that I can’t have one. I don’t have the time the set up likely the money. And I’m 60 years old now so I would have to get a very senior bird. Otherwise it would outlive me which is exactly what happened to your baby. The bonds they develop with their people are so strong, that when they lose them, it can be the end of their life too.🥹🕊️✨💫✌🏼🫶🏻🙋🏼♀️🇨🇦

Greys are so cool. I want one but am scared I wont be able to stimulate them as much as they need. How do they do when you leave the house for a number of hours?
@Mizamook6 ай бұрын
Thanks, yes Greys are cool ... and so are you for recognising the potential for problems ... care for birds is a BIG DEAL! At some point I'll make my own "Do you really want a parrot?" video to add to the litany of others. Thank you for being cautious about it. We are here most of the time. When we both go out, it's only for a few hours, but even when we are both out of the room (or out of earshot) we put him "in gaol" poor guy, to keep his pesky inquisitive self from getting into trouble. We put music on (he likes Mozart!) and make sure he has toys and of course food, water, etc. Something to gnaw on. When he was with my family, he was left alone in the cage for loooong work days, but he had dogs and a kitty to watch (and talk to) as well as a window with passing cars and at least once a bear and birds to watch. Here we have a sedentary older kitty, adn the windows are too cold for him to be near, so we try to make up for it in other ways. We might not have chosen to have a Grey right now, but his main people passed on to another realm and he "chose" me, so came to Alaska. Good luck!
