I am in the process of putting a TKO600 in my 68 GT from American power train with a hydraulic clutch. Originally a floor shift C4. What modifications did you do to the crossmember and what headers are you running? Thanks BTW, I love your car and videos!!
@mikeymac9Күн бұрын
I didn’t have to do anything for the crossmember that was in there with the 4 speed. Bolted right in. Headers are Hedman Headers 1 5/8” full length. With the TKO you will need to cut open the trans tunnel a bit to make it fit.

I know that’s a leaf spring car, as my first car was a 1971 Torino 500, also a 302. But that shudder off the line could be checked with the use of air bags. Air bags inside of coil springs is an awesome way to tune your suspension for lots of different applications. It can increase your spring rate with higher pressures, and with almost none, like 5 psi to very little, like 15psi, maybe 20psi at the most, they can greatly assist the shocks with damping. Instead of the leaf springs relying on shocks which are not even truly connected to the action of the spring during launch windup, airbags can DIRECTLY damp springs as needed, whether leaf or coil springs. Obviously it’s easier with coil springs, as I just tucked them inside the coil springs on my modern Lx chassis, and that ended diff destroying wheel hop immediately. Think of them like snubbers, traction bars, but instead of a super stiff bar that “slaps” the leaf spring and keeps it from flexing too much, which also means that there is some space/time where/when there is nothing preventing the leaf spring from doing what it does best, flex. The front half obviously is flexing upwards, and behind the axle, it’s flexing downwards, like a long S drawn from the front spring perch to the rear. Of course I know that you already know these parts, but I’m trying to paint a picture. The bigger diameter airbags could be mounted on plates on top of the front halves of the leaf springs, preventing any more wind up than you want to allow. After all, it’s all about controlling the axle, and shifting weight rear wards. Since the front half of any type of suspension is trying to lift the rear of the car at the front pickup points, SOFTENING the leaf or coil would allow more weight transfer rearward, but the airbags could tune out the shudder and wheelhop. And save lots of parts in the process. It’s that give and catching of the axle that destroys diffs and axle shafts. Again, this ain’t your first race, to be sure, but I put air bags in my rear springs to reduce squat while towing a trailer. An unforeseen benefit was the ability to tune the suspension a bit. And each side can and should be plumbed separately thus allowing independent tuning of each wheel’s reaction to launches.
@jayc.9529Ай бұрын
He has adjustable shocks , so he doesn't need air bags . There are tons of cars running much faster with the same suspension, no one is running air bags .

The stock eliminator guys are running 14-16 lbs air pressure. And i have seen the same car run a tenth quicker with radial slicks.

Install a Clutch Tamer. Working on your car may be a pain, but the results are very satisfying. Pulling a transmission and clutch is a chore. Installing a Clutch Tamer cannot be that much harder. Setting it up might take some time. I watched Finnagans Garage when the maker of the Bang Shift Billy came to help him install and tune his device. It seems they had problems getting it set up. I never saw the results becaus the video ended and he never got back to that in his videos afterwards. It seems ole Finnagan never can get that 55 Chevy to run right. If he didn't have so many projects, and if he focused on one he might get something working right and none of his working projects do work right and now he has another one.
