I was thinking a lot about whether to buy a Breville Barista or a Delonghi Maestro (basically a Prestigio with auto milk froth). Actually placed the order for the Maestro because I was hooked by their marketing ploy. But the god of espresso guides me and I canceled my order at last minute. The integrated tamp sounds appealing to noobs, but it's actually a trap because the integrated grinders on both machines produce lots of clumps. You WILL need a needle tool to break those clumps, lest you get channeling. Clumps and 51mm "Delonghi style" basket, name a worse duo lol. Delonghi's lack of grind adjustment only worsen the problem. In the end I bought the Barista Touch, and I cannot be happier with my purchase! The machine comes with the official dosing ring, which helps immensely with dosing and doing wdt. Just shake and swirl as much as you want! Get a leveling tamp and making espresso takes almost no skill nowadays. The touchscreen is a premium I'm willing to pay for. It's just so much more intuitive to use and helps a lot with dialing in - grind size, dose, brew timer, brew temp, the Touch got me covered. I do hope it let me change pre-infusion timer though, but all in all very solid.

Not really any dual boiler home espresso machine focus these days?
@LifestyleLab_19 сағат бұрын
Truth is a dual boiler really isn't ideal for most homes unless they really need 5+ consecutive drink capacity Home machines are moving towards energy efficiency and user experience
@RichardWerbin23 сағат бұрын
Some of the reviews are confused and state that this is a dual boiler machine. Wrong. It is a ThermoJet heating system with a 3 second heat up time.
@LifestyleLab_23 сағат бұрын
The existing Oracle and Oracle Touch are true dual boilers, but you are correct, this new lower end version is a single ThermoJet

Today I learned about bellows hopper! One question: I am a hopper dose guy. Would a bellows hopper work for me, pumping air through layers of beans? Should I get one?
@LifestyleLab_Күн бұрын
If you're just filling the hopper up with beans and leaving it, I don't see a huge reason to get a bellows system. It's really targeted at single dosing.
@prinzatagoКүн бұрын
Thanks for the quick reply! Does that mean a full hopper creates less retention than single dosing? (so only people who single dose use it)
@LifestyleLab_Күн бұрын
No, it just means that when single dosing you are often trying to maximize freshness or switch between different beans back to back, to the retention is a bigger concern. With hopper dosing, you aren't concerning yourself with freshness as much as the beans are sitting in the open for days until they are used, and you aren't cross contaminating because the same coffee is used in each shot

Good video. I think the main question to answer is: when beans come with instructions / recipe and they recommend a specific time, what do they mean? Here is an example: Recipe: Temp 94C as a starting point. In milk: (16-18g into 34-37g) 24-30 Seconds. So fruity! Apple and citrus in a 9oz drink! More intensity and some cocoa in the 5-boz. In espresso: (16-18g into 45-50g) 24-30 seconds. Intense, fresh apple and juicy currants acidity, a savoury note, and lor lingering citrus. Are the times from button push or first drip?
@LifestyleLab_4 күн бұрын
Exactly, in this case the cafe SHOULD specify. But most commonly they are referring to button push on a straight 9 bar profile. If you have a machine with a long pre-infusion, lower pressure etc... adjust accordingly

@Henji96 still a standard 58mm. They are likely just ensuring that you use a precision tamper and not a non-precise one that will leave an untamped ring.

Got my machine last week and had trouble dialing in. I now have a good pre-infusion and extraction time, the flow looks good, but the shot tastes sour. Doing 18g in and about 36g out in total 35 seconds. I had to take the upper burr down to 2 and knob setting down to 3. It just wouldn't be fine enough otherwise. How can I sweeten up my shot and get rid of that sourness?

Increase brew ratio :) Try a 1:3 or 1:2.5

Id like a pid with a display and timer. Cant be very expensive anymore and a stainless steel boiler. Im still a bit sceptical abouthaving plastics in the boiler since itll still expand and contract with heat
@vmarko49849 күн бұрын
To anyone considering buying this thing - I have had it for a while and here are a few remarks: - Don't use the steam wand, rather buy a simple milk foaming device on a side if you need to do milk drinks. The heating and cooling down part is annoying in the long run. If milk foam is really needed rather consider a dual boiler machine. - As it is widely used there are a lot of service shops and also there is a tunning available for it. Like the PID or different/aftermarket parts. - The water matters, don't use hard water. It will damage the boiler and you are looking for 150€ repair. You can buy a cartridge for it or use water in bottles. - I was experiencing issues if I closed the valve for the hot water before turning the hot water off with the switch. First turn switch it off and then close it using the wheel. - You need a good grinder, this only pushes water, if you put sh*t in you will get it on the other end out. Having a good grinder is more important. - It is impractical in multiple ways. The drip tray, you don't know your water level, it is not heating the cups sufficiently, etc. But it is a good starting machine. - Would I buy it again if this one breaks? No, I'd rather buy something better, but this was good starting point.
