Keybr has changed a lot and I love the changes, now instead of using gibberish generated words it uses real dictionary words. Double words is also a very good feature in which you have to type each word 2 times (Eg: 'real real fear fear hello hello') this helped me to create muscle memory for each word so now instead of typing each letter/breaking down words into letter (Before: 'h' 'e' 'l' 'l' 'o' 'h' 'o' 'w') now I type whole word due to muscle memory (After: 'Hello' 'how').

I don't find anything useful than just learning to touch typing and practicing on your own ways consistently I never had to watch any videos to improve my speed. Hardly spent 6 hours on monkeytype and ~5 hours on typeracer. No hate but getting too much theoretical is kind of useless when it comes to typing My speed: 2021: 49-50 WPM 2022: 58-70 WPM 2023: 80-102 WPM 2024: 110-137 WPM All it took was 15-20 days of month typing for 15-20 minutes only
@markbacon78Ай бұрын
Totally agreed. A lot of these methods are some kind of hindsight, but also a lot of people are just watching these and hearing about "touch typing" or "home row" for the first time; not considering the unconscious habits they built up. I also made a video about how typing fast is kind of useless at some point though; like I don't code faster than 80wpm- and when it's at 80, it doesn't last long because then i need to pause and think anyway. Similar notion with writing all sorts. Consistent practice and just doing it is... the key to improving at anything, really. I couldn't agree more- well done on the consistency!

I know I'm a little late to the video. If you are still pecktyping, you could also consider learning a different keyboard layout. Qwerty for me made my fingers hurt after long periods of typing. After 20 something years of touch typing and all that suffering I decided to do my research for a different layout. There are several good options. Unfortunately since Colemak and it's variations aren't default options in Windows like Dvorak and Qwerty are, the switch to it could be limiting. I went with Colemak DHm and I'm at a higher wpm than I was with Qwerty plus without any finger pain after long typing sessions. For those that are still peck typing, I'd probably recommend Dvorak since it is fairly easy to learn and you can add it to your devices easily. Right now though I'm taking my time to learn Dvorak for left hand. That way I don't have to move my right hand off of my mouse. Ironically before this, I had gotten a keyboard minus the numpad and a separate numpad but set it to the left side. I type a lot of numbers and it was annoying and time wasting to move my right hand back and forth to and from my mouse. So that was a temporary solution. Dvorak for left hand has its numbers oriented in almost a similar way as the numpad so I might be able to get rid of the numpad all together. Let's just say if someone, who is in their 30s, can rewire their brain to do this anyone can, even you. :)

I'm watching a couple of videos on keyboard layouts and decided to stick to qwerty. But your comment may make me change my mind. Is colemak slot better than qwerty in terms of comfortability and wrist pain?
@jmnero4447Ай бұрын
@@stewie9283 I get what you are saying. Last year, I saw a video in which the creator utilized machine learning to try and create an optimized keyboard layout. Before this, I was constantly having finger cramps and wrist pain after typing a lot. Seeing that video finally pushed me to seek an alternative layout. I don't recommend that particular generated layout as it is optimized for reduced finger travel but not for overuse of a single finger for multiple keys. First, I looked at Dvorak and its hand-alternating patterns. It looked good on paper, but ooph, it is a lot of keys being changed for my ole brain to handle. When you compare it to Qwerty, it is 31 key changes. For me back then, it was too much of a drastic change. Next, I found Colemak and the rolling of the fingers instead of the hand-alternating of Dvorak. 17 key changes when compared to Qwerty. Now, for me, that was a bit more useful. The finger rolling was also appealing as it would reduce the amount of finger fatigue, which is the overuse of one finger for multiple keys. Also, it keeps Z,X,C,V in the same location. Those shortcuts are gold and Dvorak would cause me to lose them. After about a month of learning Colemak, there were a few things that erked me. I didn't like where some of the middle keys (the ones you reach for with both index fingers, T,Y,G,H on Qwerty) were located. So I looked to see if there were any variations and found the DH and DHm variations. I tinkered with them both and concluded I liked DHm's placements better. The key positions felt good. Even though Colemak DHm has 20 key changes when compared to Qwerty and V being moved one key to the right. It wasn't an issue to re-adjust from Colemak to DHm. Overall I'm happy with it because I can type for even longer periods and all without any pain. The only issue that I run into is another computer that doesn't have it. However, I set up a portable version of AutoHotKey and a script to be able to have it on a flashdrive that is on my keychain. This is why I recommended Dvorak in my previous comment. As Dvorak is something that is already on your computer, just has to be enabled via language keyboard settings. Unfortunately, Colemak and its variations aren't considered popular enough for Microderp to add it. Also have to consider if you use a smartphone. I think iOS is locked in with Qwerty (don't take my word regarding iOS) but Android has different keyboard apps that you can customize your keyboard. When I started going ham with Colemak, I set up my phone's keyboard to be Colemak. Now it is Colemak DHm of course. It definitely helped push the learning process. Ooph, that was a bit longer than I thought. Although I wanted to give a little bit of context to what I was going through. Hopefully, it helps!
