My very first computer purchase was in 1997, it had a Pentium 166 processor. Soon after I purchased the Monster 3D Voodoo 1 card, and along with it NFS2se. After that I bought every 3dfx game I could get my hands on, and I have quite a collection of Windows 95, and 98 games now, 106 in total; but, the computers I run the games on are worlds better that what I had back in 1997. I still run a Monster 3D Voodoo 1 in my one machine for that 3dfx Glide experience! The other machine is running a FX5700, with 256mb of ram onboard, and I use nGlide with it to run 82 of my games in Direct 3D, Open GL, or Glide.

7 years on and I'm considering pairing one with my Celeron 500 (despite the cost), so that I can use my Savage4 GT with my K6-2 500. Being buggy and having poor performance isn't that big a deal to me now that I have extensively used an SDR SiS 315, and tried the SiS 315E. The image quality has meant that I actually don't run many games on my Voodoo2 - textures are a night and day difference.

Doubt this will get seen, but curious, since DDR data transfers occur at the rise and falling edge of a clock, does DDR2, DDR3, DDR4, DDR5, etc just happen more often due to higher clocks or is there some additional weirdness of when the data transfers occur?

While it doesn't have the userfriendly UI and a million scaling options and such, Dosbox Staging is the closest I've seen to reproducing the actual graphics you'd see in DOS games with a CRT monitor.

Biggest advantage of not using a CRT is definately that you are not damaging your eyes and less chance for headaches from the light radiation of these screens. I still remember vividly how I would really get headaches from spending longer amounts of time infront of them, while that was completely gone when I switched to an LCD more than 20 years ago.

This machine is great, I use its big brother HP Z840 put RTX 4090 on it and 2X Xeon E5 2699V4 with 512GB of ram, it run like heaven, I run video restoration business and this machine runs everyday rendering thousands of video footages, it can handle 4 videos converting simultaneously in TVAI and run 24x7 for months in full load of CPU and GPU and never face any problem nor shutdown, I use consumer grade PC with i9 14900K but it can't match HP Z840 reliability and stability in heavy duty environment, long life workstation, it speaks its quality and reliability

I recently rediscovered my HP T610 Thin Client and got it back up and running. This time around, I've upgraded the 2.5" SATA SSD to 1TB and installed Windows Me Second Edition, an unofficial Windows mod created by Aurorarion. Based on the Volume Licensing version of Windows XP Professional SP3, Windows Me Second Edition basically recreates the experience of Windows Me with features from Windows Me and Windows 2000. In other words, it's basically what Windows Me would have been if it were based on the Windows NT kernel instead of the Windows 9x kernel. I used WinSetupFromUSB to install Windows Me Second Edition. As Windows Me Second Edition was based on Windows XP Professional SP3, I installed the latest drivers using Snappy Driver Installer. After I installed the drivers using Snappy Driver Installer, I installed WinCDEmu and used it to mount the CD-ROM ISO images of my favorite PC games from the late-1990's and early-2000's. As for the games that used MIDI music, I installed VirtualMIDISynth 2.9.3, which was the very last version to support Windows XP, and set it to use my favorite soundfont. I store the CD-ROM ISO images and the soundfonts on my Thin Client's original 16GB SATA DOM. More information about Windows Me Second Edition and its creator, Aurorarion, can be found in these links below. winmodpedia.miraheze.org/wiki/Windows_Me_Second_Edition archive.org/details/windows-mese winmodpedia.miraheze.org/wiki/Aurorarion archive.org/details/@windowsxpunity

Thanks for the video, Phil! Just what I needed... I am running DosBox Staging with Borland Pascal and ran into multiple issues (including the latest release often ignoring configuration settings). This looks more like the DosBox I need for this purpose - especially mouse wheel, long file name and paste support, as well as different speed settings and MMX are welcome...

I remember my mom having a p3 600eb slot 1 on a intel 820 with the defective intel mth (memory translator hub) as this motherboard uses sdram but the i820 works with rdram. we didn't ended up having issues with this computer, random crashes or anything. I was using it over my aging own p233mmx/v2-sli. it did work great, and remember playing black & white on it quite a lot.

I'm in and out of so many systems at work with so many different things to remember. It seems whenever I try to get into some old games, I'm always looking up some config option, how to mount a local directory, etc... I was there 3000 years ago, so this makes it a lot nicer for me. Am going to have to give this a spin to go back to some old classics. Thanks for the demo.

I like the fact that there are different flavors and different teams working on DOSBox. I used DOSBox-X for quite some time and I found it good but it also tries to do a lot and I feel it kinda misses an identity, jack of all trades. I much prefer DOSBox Staging today that has spectacular sound card support and near perfect CRT emulation, focuses entirely on games and is the closest thing to the continuation of the original DOSBox that exists today - builds on top of it and improves on it significantly.
