Dear Dennis, even though you said a few times your math or measurement skills are a bit off sometimes I humbly think the way you set up the bench edges and how you measured to get either appropriate space between the track on the pan handle section and its fascia, or the way you measured and set out the box for the east end of Maroon Creek is absolutely up to the incremental inch. For the most important part it just looks good. There’s still plenty of maneuvering space. Even though the several sections of the layout are geographically separated, I think it will create the opportunity to enhance the vistas over the panhandle, suggesting there’s much more behind it scenic wise. Especially where you added you want to go ‘overboard’ with the rock work over the fascia on the Maroon Creek section. Patiently looking forward to your next progress and episode! Cheerio

LOL, my measurements are always off!! But like you say, the end result is all that matters. It's looking more and more like I might meet my 2024 goal of reaching the opposite corner of the room from Maroon Creek. Maybe, I'll be finished with all track work and benchwork by the end of 2025. I am ready to work on scenery! Thanks for the kind words Vincent!

That's gonna be an awesome expansion. Why don't you take that rock face and make it go over the fascia as if the rock grew over the fascia. Now you have multiple angles for photographing the scene without the fascia bring in the shots

Your benchwork is stellar, and as far as the 6" rule goes, eh, plans change. The temp staging yard is a great idea. Being able to operate while building, I think, is a good way to go. Enjoy your time off and family time, have fun!

Thanks Paul. I knew if I didn't plan for 36" Isles I would have ended up with human tunnels instead of Isles! I think it will all work out, even if it's a little less than what I wanted.

Amazing! Stupid question from the other side of the ocean: is this 12mm or 10mm? I don't know what it is in inch.
@OtterCreek13 сағат бұрын
I'm not sure how to answer. Over on this side of the ocean this is called HOn3. HO scale and 3 feet Narrow Gauge. It is 1:87 scale or what I think equates to 1:221 centimeters. The prototype track, rail head to rail head measures 3 feet, or just shy of one meter. I'm not sure what the modeled track measures, it's probably a bit over scale from the prototype. Hope that helps! Thanks for stopping in!
@chrisweber74609 сағат бұрын
@@OtterCreek Thanks, than you can use or use standard Peco tracks and it is more or less 12mm. Thanks, we call it H0m, but it is still narrow gauge. Your steam locomotives look awesome! And your layout is incredible. 😍 Thanks for sharing!

Hi Dennis. For somebody that claims to be not so good at math I think you did pretty dang good. Also since it's going to be family time for a few weeks any chance we get to see another family operating video? The last one was great.
@OtterCreek14 сағат бұрын
LOL Math and measuring is not the same thing! We did have another op session but I didn't film any of it. The first one was kind of a test to see how they liked it and I "oversaw" things. The second one I was an active participant and couldn't really film. Eventually I will take an afternoon or evening and walk through kind of how things are operating on the layout. Thanks Sierge!

Dennis, you really think that myself or Claude won't be coming to operate the layout once it's finished or before it's finished? I got 1 week of vacation time coming to me this year still. Maybe I'll make a round trip tour again? You, John Dilley, Jac Jac, and finish up with the Plano train show. Maybe stop and see Claude's layout on the way home! This is going to be fun to operate steam locomotives on! I can't wait until you start building scenery! Mountains as tall as the ceiling? Ravines as deep as the floor? We could only hope!

See...thats what I said

I know that there are a few who on special occasions will be willing to travel 3+ hours to operate. What I may do is offer two op sessions a year. One in the spring before it gets too hot, and then another one in the fall before it gets too cold. That way I can set up seating arrangements and refreshments in the shop. I'm still not sure how it will all work until I've hammered in that golden spike. I assume some waiting will be involved. I just don't think it's feasible to have regular sessions unless I create some Model Railroaders near by. My kids live thousands of miles away! Thanks Guys!
