This is the simplest approach and pretty good, but it gives variable frequency pwm. On increasing duty cycle, frequency decreases and on decreasing duty cycle, frequency increases. And this variation is quite huge making it unsuitable for switching power supplies since you can't decide appropriate coil size. A better approach is to use a lm324 quad op amp. Generate triangular wave from 2 of its op amps and use third one as a Schmitt trigger and you'll get fix frequency pwm. Edit: and when using it as buck converter or boost converter, fourth one can be used as a feedback error amplifier thus allowing you to make a complete regulated converter from a Single IC

Very good and useful circuit. I made it and it is working well. But if I use 220v capacitor drop supply to 9 Volt or 12v dc and use it instead of 9v dc supply, will it work. If it works than will I get shock when I touch the touch plate as due to capicitor drop supply, touch plate will be live. Secondly. When we touch plate to off it is ok but when I want to on the light and touch the plate it does not on. It off when I touch the plate two or three time. So to on function is not reliablye.
