I shit you not...I once had a fairly large lunch whilst on holiday in Tunisia and went swimming about 15 minutes thereafter...and I nearly drowned! I was doing a length and about 15 yards from the end, the lower half of my body simply stopped working...it was surreal. Didn't feel like a cramp, no pain or anything, but from the chest down I lost control of my body...never happened before or since. I struggled to the edge but, for a moment, I was going to shout for help. It's not a myth and may affect some and not others.

Welfare was my boost when I was a single mom leaving domestic violence from my then husband. I got short term help while going to school. Once I started my new career I stopped benefits. I am 8 years from retirement, own my home and a rental property with 0 debt with a million dollar net worth. I avoided the welfare trap but am thankful for it when I needed it. The choice is up to you. ❤

Does Adam Sandler owe the world an apology for his portrayal of "The Water Boy?" Personally, I enjoyed his performance portraying a poverty stricken white boy from the south and Kathy Bates even surpassed his performance in her role as "Mama." Making fun of Southerners isn't nice, it has nothing to do with nice, but it sure as Hell is funny and if you disagree with me you can do the rest of us a favor and pull your head out of your ass!

My Mother fell in love with a Catholic Priest and gave birth to his child. I never understood why she loved this film so much, but as an adult I can see that Maria’s story was what she wished for herself. Maria made an oath to love God ONLy, as had my Father, but Maria got her man in the end and was seen as a heroine whereas my poor Mum was seen as a whore.

You didn't really discuss the speedy part of the clause. Which is denied to thousands of people across several states every day. They have been accused, locked up on the word on a handful of people who have no interest in allowing a fair trial anytime soon. These individuals have been locked up for years without trial or any opportunity to defend themselves against the accusations of the state. Individuals are guilty until proven innocent and incarcerated for extended periods of time that they will never get back even if they are found not guilty at some point, assuming they ever get a trial. The longer they are locked up the more incentive the state has to find them guilty rather than admit the violated their rights.

Those who have a negative perception of Uncle Tom might have not sincerely read the book, understood it or they might have deliberately chosen to ignore the selfless and humane nature of uncle Tom. An objective oriented person will surely appreciate such a character.

So funny how they make fun of the very people who nursed their elders & slaved, worked & invented without recognition or compensation. Yet here they are knowing what it feels like to work hard & still found reasons to find those who paved the way for them (without a choice) inferior. The irony is amazing.

It's incorrect to claim that one of them single-handedly invented the telephone. Inventing something isn't an instant eureka moment in the thoughts but rather a long process. Both Bell and Meucci were involved in the evolution of the telephone, and both made great contributions in the telecommunications. Though Bell was able to design the telephone for widespread utilization in commerce.

I'm left handed, left footed and left eyed and people always look at me in disbelief when they see me do something as simple as writing with my left hand. I often brush it off and try to tell them that I find it weird to see them do things with their right.

Being called an "Uncle Tom" sounds like a compliment. What a shame that black American lean towards Hollywood's depiction of Uncle Tom instead of reading the book. Why is this book NOT required reading during Black History Month, since the author used accounts of real slaves as a basis for her characters?

Anyone who's actually read the book knows that Uncle Tom was a good and decent man - a gallant hero willing to sacrifice his own life to protect the women who had fled. Only an ignorant fool would use his name as a put-down.

It's called supply and demand, new buildings, housing and shops open up, demand goes up, once the allure fades and people can't afford to go to their overpriced cafe any longer, it shuts down and it goes back to the way it was. I miss my old run down shthole, it's not the same after 20 years away. A little different, it was swamps and orange groves, now it's subdivisions on subdivisions, what do people do there to afford the overpriced housing? No idea. It won't last long though, maybe 20 years. You can't have low-income areas within a high demand section, like say the Atlanta Beltline. Too much demand for good planning, if you don't get off your ass and get a job to where you can afford to stay on the beltline? kiss your pad goodbye, gentrification don't happen overnight. if you want to stay, you gotta pay. Organize and fight against all the good changes, keep your shthole a shthole, don't let go.
