Hi Richard, Really good video and very nice ideas and explanation. Very happy to have discovered it and I am in the process of making these modifications, otherwise the chuck is unusable to machine precise parts. Thank you again for the time you have spent to share your experience and knowledge !! Philippe from Switzerland.

strange you can get such high sound reduction from that setup. I've seen dense wood boxes full of noise dampening materials that get 50% reduction. for you to be getting up to 80% sounds unrealistic, would like to see testing done.

While this might work, ALTIN coating is not recommended for Aluminum. The AL(Aluminum)TIN(Titanium Nitrite) actually has an affinity to chip weld the aluminum coating to the aluminum. What you really want here is a single flute ZRN coated end mill.

Hi Richard, I was trying to disassemble this same gearbox but I am not able to get the warm gear part (Shraft with the grove gear ) like you do in here (around 8:54 in the video). Any idea how to get it out. Also oil seals doesn't seam to be same in mine, I cant get them out like you do in here. Basically I cant disassemble the unit at all.

Hi, first you remove booth flanges, then push gear with press towards flange , after that you can remove worm gear also in direction where flange was atached

Your years of experience served this project well! I'm surprised others on here haven't asked if you are interested in making these and selling them. I am looking to buy one for my new, incoming Shapeoko and cant add to my 'rabbit hole' list at the moment. Are you selling any of these? My Shapeoko would like to know (and it was very impressed with how quickly you tapped out that oil seal).

After spending 2+ hours filing A 1/4” round hole square when making a lathe boring tool, I can really appreciate a motorized filing fixture. And I really like your design and the fact you a suppling plans I can cut it on my CNC. You mention that plans are available on the Carbide 3D Community Forum, I went there and looked around in a few of the sections but could not find the plans, could you give me a link to them. Thanks for the design and sharing, and I really enjoyed your in-depth You Tube instructions. Thanks Hager

I reduced the backlash of the key connection by giving the key a little grit blow on top. That made it a bit wider and the backlach was gone. drive.google.com/file/d/1kMn8i_WV5UsAUclRJSKTCKmr_p7dkvPJ/view?usp=sharing

Hi, Not using bushings on mine, aluminum and steel are fine. Millions of miles on auto camshafts in aluminum heads. Also the bearing block is on the inside so the scotch yoke is shorter. Maybe you used them later but a good idea to use washers on the strut bolts.

Please don't confuse Hydrodynamic bearings (a thin film of Pressurized oil between the steel in the aluminum so that there is never a metal to metal contact) with bearing free set up (steel against aluminum). As they say, you can lead a horse to water .......
@mosfet500
@mosfet500 4 жыл бұрын
@@RichardCournoyer It makes very little if any difference, the key is surface area contact and the fact that aluminum is softer than steel. Like any bearing, including bronze, just keep it lubed. Don't believe me? Take apart any lawn mower engine with aluminum connecting rods. Rings in small engines are designed to last 1000 hours, that's steel against aluminum (chrome rings last longer). If an engine runs at 3000 rpms that's 3000 x 60 x 1000 = 180 million strokes of steel running in an aluminum sleeve. I've changed rings in those small engines, guess what? The crank bearings are still good and so are the aluminum cylinder walls. Porsche runs pistons directly in aluminum, yes they're nikasil coated but still, they're racing engines and they even did it with their air cooled engines, that's how good aluminum and steel work together.Those walls weren't force lubed either, Porsche uses something called dry sump lubrication, they were sprayed with oil. Plenty of small electric motors run steel directly in aluminum bearings too. I don't hone either, honing with paper can leave fine grit embedded in the soft sleeve, you can hone cast iron but that's a different story. Press the bearing in and hone it with reamer on a dead parallel set up. Now you have a nice clean accurate and even mating pair. Use good aluminum like 6061 T6.

Very good video my ex ex L is on order so I don’t have it yet and my plans were to build a plywood box with a plexiglass window you just changed all that around I loved the box you made and I’m going to make one! Can you tell me the dimensions for your steel frame I can see the dimensions of the unit but until you get it put together I would have no way to calculate all the extras that you have. I could get outside and start getting this frame welded up while they’re putting my CLC in a box somewhere in the United States! Thank you sir for any more help you would like to share I would appreciate any and all of it God bless the United States of America and our military

The Dewalt's ($135.00) slowest speed is 16,000 rpm (TOO FAST). The Makita ($99.00) is 10,000rpm. Much better! I am on my 3rd year using the Makita...so they last a LONG time.
