Hi folks, the enclosure video/slide show is finally posted. Before I could gather data on how well the sound proofing worked, there was a small family emergency that removed me from my shop for a few weeks so it was a took a few weeks longer than I expected. Sorry.
Additional info:
The base of the enclosure is 1.0" thick (2 layers of 1/2") plywood.
Cost: Base: $38, Metal: $21, Lexan: $125, $Seal: $16, Hardware: $12
Sound measurements were done with my iPhone 6 and the Decibel 10th APP. I tested the machine on wood and aluminum. Spindle Speed was 16k for both materials. There is about a 6-8 dB increase on metal verses wood.
Hit me up with any questions and I'll try to answer then ASAP

very nice. I will adopt some of the ideas you have shown. of great use is the "dam" for the chips, and the shielding of the electronics. I am currently ordering a shapeoko 3 simply because I want the ability to cnc mill aluminum (in addition to wood/mdf). Your videos on using the machine with aluminum are helpful. Thanks for sharing.

Very good video my ex ex L is on order so I don’t have it yet and my plans were to build a plywood box with a plexiglass window you just changed all that around I loved the box you made and I’m going to make one! Can you tell me the dimensions for your steel frame I can see the dimensions of the unit but until you get it put together I would have no way to calculate all the extras that you have. I could get outside and start getting this frame welded up while they’re putting my CLC in a box somewhere in the United States! Thank you sir for any more help you would like to share I would appreciate any and all of it God bless the United States of America and our military

strange you can get such high sound reduction from that setup. I've seen dense wood boxes full of noise dampening materials that get 50% reduction. for you to be getting up to 80% sounds unrealistic, would like to see testing done.

Love this! I need to build an enclosure for my shapeoko. Not sure if I want to do wood for the frame of weld up some steel like yours. One question - do you find access to the back of the machine harder with that enclosure?

+Carter Wilson Workshop with Bradley Boggs Good question! Yes and No (I'll explain). The 24" height provides more then ample access to machine anything within the 16x16 work area. Cleaning the filters? Yes, I need to (for now) open the front doors and pull the unit out to service the back of the machine. At some point, Rev B will be to make an access door on the back (Plywood) side to (a) allow easier access to service my filters (which is only a few times a year), and (b) allow me to run a longer part. Example: maybe some kitchen cabinets doors, OR a 12" sign (Someday)

I have these: SUPERNIGHT 3.8 out of 5 stars 164 Reviews SUPERNIGHT 16.4ft 5M Waterproof Flexible Strip 300l LEDS. I don't recommend them since they don't stick to anything (wood, steel, lexan). Real pain in the @ss!

Hi, thanks for the video! Very neat. I might have missed it, but how thick is your polycarbonate ? Looks like 1/4". Do you think 5mm would be enough?

I wish I could have afforded 1/4 all around but it was almost $300. So 1/8!on the sides and 1/4 for the door. Thanks for asking. You don't need clear on 4 sides, but at some point I want to take it to a school and or Maker Fairs.

awesome video, do u happen to have the list of the materials used like on a document or something. it would be much easier than me having to write down whatever I see on the bottom of the video which is a lot of work. thanks so much and great video.

Richard I have just bought a Shapeoko with the Dewalt router do you think it is a sensible machine for a first CNC machine?
@stirlingfromla
@stirlingfromla 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, for a couple of reasons, they have sold over 1000 of this model machine, So the design is well established. Many of the people who want previous version ( number two), purchased this model, Which means they believe in the company. Third the customer Service from the parent company is second to none. Fourth, I have use my machine Daily for 11 1/2 months, And it is good as the day I purchased, So the quality is also there. I don't know you'll level of machine experience but using this machine does take some machining and CNC knowledge, Either pre-or post purchase. The carbide3D community forum, Which I am an active member is there to assist and help the newbies. Welcome to the family!

could you share the information about the clamps you have made?
@stirlingfromla
@stirlingfromla 8 жыл бұрын
What would you like to know? If I have your email address, I can send you the solid models, etc. I made 3" and 4" clamps, other dimensions are 1" by 1/2". A total of 12. The program isn't fast, but it is a good single tool program. So I could load the machine and walk away. Come back in an hour and I had a finished clamp (Except for the over all length which was a second operation.
