Hear me out: I use ChatGPT in my home game. LET ME EXPLAIN! I don't use image generation, nor do I ask it for plot lines or anything like that. I use it more as a note-taking tool and to iron out some small details on the fly if need be. For example, I had forgotten to finish typing a letter last session,so I asked it to quickly complete it with a quick synopsis of how I wanted it ended. Mostly, I ask it for trivial details like "how did people secure fresh water in medieval times" and "how large of a difference is there in keel size between seafaring ships and river sailing ships?" It saves me time on pouring through Wikipedia articles. Its most important function for me is its recall. I fill it in on what happened the previous session, feeding it my notes, and then request the info later if my memory is fuzzy. And the response is much quicker than digging through my docs.

It all depends on how the AI is being used. Which we dont know based on the job description. It could be in relation to video games as they said, it could be in relation to published books, or it could be something else, like developing a DM assistant AI that can quickly generate helpful Art/sound/text for a dm to use in game We just dont know.

There was a short on the official D&D channel where they were talking about how the 2024 handbook had its art and writing done in tandem, how the art clearly represents what is written. I can’t say this definitively, but it sure did sound like they were skirting around saying that they used the text as a prompt for AI art. Just don’t be too surprised if the book comes out and there’s yet another AI controversy

I love horror games, period games, and production values. I want to LOVE this show, but it's tone is just one note. Everything I tune in, it's hushed, urgent and vague. I thought Liam would bring it for his arc, but his brow NEVER unforrowed and every word was whispered. He turned his emo up to 11. There should be more humor, more personality, and more emotion range than just fear & worry to more fear & worry. It SHOULD be my favorite show, but I've given up. Watch Haunted City and Time for Chaos on Glass Cannon. Horror RPGs don't need to played so narrowly. This show is just disappointing.

Ask yourself this: how many times have you heard about stealing stuff in ttrpgs context? No one's ashamed to say that he "stole" that concept, or that idea for a twist, or this character for his campaign? You will find advice to "steal" in so many guides for GM's, using that exact verb. It's okay when you're not making money, but what changes when you write a campaing as a product? Nothing, the process is the same, people will just be careful not to mention stealing ideas anymore.
@arcane_artist
@arcane_artist 5 сағат бұрын
in most of the cases you are referring to, "steal" is effectively being used as slang for "inspired by". it is the motive that is important here; a GM "stealing" something for their home game was likely thinking "that's a cool idea, let's see where I can take this in my own implementation" whereas plagiarism in a product is often motivated by the thinking of "this is/has the potential to be commercially successful, I want to cash in". the former is done out of admiration for the source material, whereas the latter is often nothing more than a shameless attempt to make a quick buck.

The problem is that unlike crypto, Web3, NFTs, etc., generative AI actually does produce something usable for something more than speculative investment. It just does so in a way that's fraught with ethical, social, quality, and creative concerns. So it's not just the latest buzzword fad for techbros, venture capitalists, and scammers to pounce on, it's actually something that businesses can use to cut human costs, not unlike automated assembly lines in factories, and the only way to keep it out of whatever industry you care about is for consumers to make its use cost more than it saves.

I knew this was coming the instant they included the wiggle words into their AI policy. The key sentence was them talking about how generative AI was not permitted to be used to generate “final” products. I write technical procedures for a living, and if I wanted to ban the use of AI, I’d simply and concisely state, “AI shall not be used.” Anything else I include would be purely for the purpose of baking permissions into the cake, so if I wanted to, say, allow gen. AI to be used for rough concept art to help the writers and maybe to provide to the artists as a “this is sort of what I was thinking, now make it good,” that would be cause for additional words, but if your goal is to put a stop to its use altogether, that’s super simple to write. You could use your gen. AI platform of choice to spit out a full piece of art, pop it open in photoshop and change a few minor details, and submit it to WotC almost entirely untouched by human hands, and you’d be in verbatim compliance with their policy as written, and with the size of their organization, there’s no way that was an accident. TLDR, I don’t believe for a second that this won’t be all over D&D the moment they think nobody’s looking.

All of this is spot-on, and I've thought it for a while. Even for CR, the four hour time commitment for a single episode is a lot. Another problem, I think, is the cast shuffle for each campaign. People watch programs because they are invested in characters, or they appreciate the chemistry that develops among the cast. Given their commitment to 3-episode arcs (maybe 6 if they start splitting them in half), investment in characters really can't happen. And even when an episode is predominantly CR's core cast, just the one or two guests (combined with the completely different tone) is enough to mess with the on-camera synergy.
