So after a year Volvo's estates are back. Volvo costumers have gotten what they wanted. Australia Subaru owners wanted the XT version of the Outback, complained about it, a lot, and got it. UK Subaru owners either don't have enough interest in this subject for Subaru UK to take seriously or perhaps its another reason. It's difficult to understand why the UK and EU Subaru offer is so limited in variety when the US and Australia have a huge range.

MY 2014 XV is a DOG! putchaced with 50,000 miles. At 60k all 4 wheel bearings replaced. next came both front wishbones due to bushes rotted and only able to get the whole units. Next at 65k the main drive shaft bearing which meant the entire shaft replaced!!! and both front brake discs warped then took under body trays off to find EVERY pipe and cable fixing rotted away completely and the factory rust protection only on 50% of exposed steel so lots of rot. At 70k the rear trailing arms and every!!!! suspension bush rotted. The central locking occasionally locks me in or out and the fault cannot be traced. The worst car I ever bought.

I've found the Subaru customer care service in the UK (handled by a company called IM Group in Solihull) to be extremely poor. No wonder Subaru sell only about 1000 new cars in the Uk each year. For example. Extortionate cost of parts, even though they pretend their servicing costs are average. 'Mechanics' who are really just fitters and won't bother to search for any underlying cause for a routine problem. Sadly, with so few cars sold in the UK there isn't an extensive range of independent Subaru specialists you can depend upon to ameliorate the ineptness of Subaru dealerships. ..AVOID!

I have a March 2016 Diesel Outback which I bought when it was a year old, (ex demo with 4200 miles on the clock). I have had mixed experiences with Subaru dealers within the Southwest. It is now nearly 8 years old with not quite 51,500 miles on it at time of writing, (16/01/24). Lowish mileage, and really nothing for a 2 litre diesel engine. Various dealers have been good, some not quite so. Afters sales service, although not brand new at time of my purchase, has generally been good overall. It's just about to go to a Subaru dealer in Somerset for a service and the cost seems fairly reasonable. Subaru UK replaced the front grill for nothing despite not being on warranty due to the grill 'pitting' and discolouring after a short period of time. In the main, whilst main dealers servicing costs are high, I can't complain too much. If Subaru UK bring out a hybrid or electric version I will be tempted. But, for Petes' sake, (or for the sake of Pete), don't do away with the spare wheel. For a customer who goes off road and gets a puncture, I don't expect a recovery service company would take too kindly to trying to the get to a place where an Outback can reach to hook up a tow rope. Good luck to them if they try.

I don't understand why they'd compare a 4x4 with a crossover. Surely xv is a lot easier to live with on a daily basis but it'll never go where a defender goes.

Ive seen a POV video on YT of this Forester hybrid. Its a heavy car, no turbo but for its intended purpose it does perfectly well. That video, the driver knew how to use CVT properly which a lot don’t, they floor them and wonder why making a lot of noise with no progress. As you will know, its all about matching everything up. I had the Outback, it could fly without the need to redline it once I got the hang of it.

Just selling my 3 yr old, brought from new, Outback due to a series of problems coupled with very poor support from the dealership network and from Subaru Uk. Subaru appear to be trading on their past reputation for customer support and vehicle reliability.

It's a gutless slug & expensive with it. We've had 8 Subarus ( 7 bought new ) , WRX Brill, 2 No 2007 Foresters, a manual & auto brill, 2018 Forester Gutless, change down and the engine just made more noise, 2011 Outback manual diesel, burnt engine oil, very economical, 2015 Outback auto diesel very good, 2018 outback petrol, lovely ride but gutless & boring. 2019 Forest XT, what a great car but thirsty. The Hybrid is just gutless, heavy no better ( IMHO ) than the 2.0 litre ordinary petrol. I've loved Subaru but no more. Won't be buying any more Subarus.
@oddities-whatnot6 ай бұрын
Engine makes more noise in any car if you change down. Boxer engines are vocal, you should know that. They LIKE to be revved, and often need to be at least 3k rpm before they pull. I know, ive had three. Nothing wrong with this Forester. Im inclined to think that maybe its your lack of patience these days on the road thats the issue, and not the car. The road isn’t a racetrack.

I also think it's time for a petition to be put in place, preferably by Subaru UK, to establish if they're customers actually want the turbo version. I'd happily sign it.
@oddities-whatnot6 ай бұрын
I had the previous Outback, 2016 plate in the UK. I understand why it doesn’t have a turbo, less to go wrong and I found it to have enough power for any road conditions. A lot of people simply don’t know how to drive and convince themselves they need tons of power for this that or the other reason, when in reality its all about boosting the ego by having a car more powerful than others, to show off, to drive aggressively.
