Why are you talking about corruption, have you any probe or fact to set that BS? The long term is 400 years, how is it posible lasted for so long being so bad and corrupted work?

Why are you trying to expand a very negative point of view about the Goberment of the Hispanic Empire?. First, You should divide this enormous era of 300, even 400 years in some lands, into several different periods. Second, You can not say that a Goberment of 300 years is a bad Goberment, or ineficient, silly and slow Goberment, It is absurd, mostly when this Goberment was the ruler of hole world, oceans and continents for 300 years. Don't you?. Please try to study and research a litle bit.

Another excellent lecture. I would distinguish between buccaneers and pirates, however. The buccaneers were the first manifestation of mercenary warfare in the Caribbean, generally attacking settlements and towns on land, as opposed to ships. Henry Morgan's life and career basically spans this period. The various buccaneers were acting as quasi-mercenaries in furtherance of national objectives (i.e. disruption of Spanish influence and revenue). When these land attacks became too provocative to the European political stability and the various governments cracked down on this type of free-lance warfare, the buccaneers switched to attacking ships instead, as this was a stealthier method, switching from land-based extortion and robbery to high seas robbery. The pirates were occasionally operating 'legally' with Letters of Marque, issued by colonial governors, and when the Crown discouraged governors from issuing these, the pirates carried out acts of 'true' piracy, that is, armed robbery on the high seas. As pirates they were considerably less picky about whose ships they attacked, although these attacks were usually voted on by the crew, and if the crew wasn't disposed to attack a vessel of a certain nation, they might let it pass. But eventually profit overcame any patriotic sensibilities, and as governmental attitudes and punishments became harsher, the pirates became 'the enemies of all nations'. It should also be pointed out that pirate crews operated as true democracies, with 'one man one vote', and their leaders were raised, or dismissed, by consent of the crew. They were also multi-national, multi-ethnic, multi-racial societies, although it must also be pointed out that pirates engaged in the slave trade and were not averse to using slave labor aboard ship as well. Loot was distributed on an equitable basis and pirates operated with written agreements, including a disability plan! I'ts sad to me that the 'romance' of the period has overwhelmed the truly fascinating history of the Caribbean and the 'Brethren of the Coast'. PotC is a fun story, but it has no relationship to the truth. Black Sails is a bit better, but also obscures as much history as it illuminates. Pirate society was partly organized criminal gang and partly a revolutionary social/political/economic phenomena. Given that economics were tightly controlled by the social/political elites (i.e. the various Crowns and nobility) and the idea of personal liberty was looked at as a totally revolutionary idea, the influence of the buccaneers and pirates in the 16th and 17th Centuries cannot be overstated.

Great presentation! As a fiction writer of a series of novels set in the 'Golden Age' of piracy, I've done some deep dives into Caribbean and Atlantic Seaboard history. Your presentations are excellent and, may I say, you have a great speaking voice and manner, easy to listen to and friendly. I sure hope more people discover your series!

Unfortunately, not enough people care or is interested in one of the worst crime and cover up in human history. The United States owes Haiti a lot but instead went in on stealing from Haiti with France. Sad but not surprising, racism is a powerful tool in the white hands.

I wish I could afford to donate to support your channel instead of paying a school to recycle actual good, quality content that they are incapable of producing. I want to thank you for the devotion to quality and consistency in your lectures! I enjoyed listening to this.

No mention of the 15th century Papal bulls (from the Pope)? They were pivotal because they encouraged the monarchs of Portugal and Spain to claim ("INVADE and PLUNDER" are the terms that I would use) the lands, resources, and people of any place its representatives came across, as long as said lands weren’t already “owned” by a Christian prince. The Catholic Church is a major player in the advent of the European slave trade, and it should be held accountable!

Great information but in regards to the 1st inhabitants that is a false narrative there is no evidence, meaning that they was always there, they didn't travel from other parts of the planet show me the proof. It is a fact that the Pyramids and the America's are older and is the first land to rise out of the waters.

Columbus traded fairly for those parrots and stocks. He gave bells, beads and looking glasses and that was a fair trade. Quit presenting him like he went on with the intention to con and fool everyone in his path. In fact a great part of trade by indians between themselves were objects of adornment and knick knacks. All those took a good amount of industry to manufacture at the time. What was he supposed to give them? Shoes? They were not accustomed to wear them. Vases? Carry vases over the expand of the ocean just to trade ”fairly”? Iron tools, swords or fire guns? They were having a long journey ahead of them and iron tools were a necessity not to be squandered in bartering. What constituted fair objects of trade for those times in your view? Moreover, what is the heavy evidence you mentioned allegeing taino women were raped by spanish from La Navidad?

GIVE CREDIT TO THE FRENCH REVOLUTION THAT FREED THE SLAVES First, the people of Haiti is a great people but you should give credit that in 1793 and 1794, it is the French Revolution that voted the end of slavery. Some emancipated slaves became french soldiers and officers like the heros of the haitian revolution. (In New Orleans, slaves were freed and became the free blacks of America.) This event allowed the Haitian Revolution. In 1802 the English invaded Haiti, controlled the south and supported the former aristocrats that wanted to keep their plantations while black people no longer wanted to work on a plantation, of course. This event of the English invasion is always forgotten ! It was not a war between France and England. It was the coalition of all kings and aristocrats in Europe and on Earth that wanted to kill the French Revolution. They succeded at waterloo what allowed the english colonies to keep their slaves and the Americas as well. Napoleon send a troup but DIDN'T gave the order to re established slavery neither his army in Haiti. A contrario, Napoleon tried to keep Toussaint Louverture on his side and negociated with him. In 1804 France opened an university of 100 chemist to industrialised the production of sugar from beet in France and knew that the colonies that only produced sugar and coffe would lose their value as coffee and sugar will be produced elsewhere. Considering the balance between cost and revenue, Napoleon decided to sell. Haiti became poor when France chemist discovered how to make suggar from beet. France is one of the wealthiest country in the world since Antiquity and it is a fake to explained that the colonies made France rich. In fact, to develop a colony is a huge investment and France developped his colonies mainly in reaction to the english expansion. Thank you.
