I have to disagree with the masses, I played ball for many years, I believe the batters helmet is just a piece of PPE, it's not a piece of the issued uniform I mean (although it is legal) why not run the bases with the bat slide in batbfirst and give yourself another 32" of reach even if the opposing player touched the bat with the ball you wouldn't be out but now your on base because of the bat
