Thanks for the video. I've never opened my solar watch, it's always helpful to see it done before attempting. I will say though, for anyone attempting to work on any quartz watch, be careful not to touch the copper coil. Over time, oils from your fingers can cause premature corrosion to the coil, necessitating a replacement. I'm not saying you touched it, but it may not be clear to a first time do-it-yourselfer. Great camera work too!

One more thank you from someone keen on checking if an "o" Ring is an acceptable substitute on my vintage Seikos. I also liked & learned from the greasing method used. One thing though; to my knowledge "O" rings do NOT rot when in contact with oil (just look at the number of the cars and bikes using them as part of the oil filter sealing).

I got it from eBay. Found other on line battery specialists as well. Seems like there are two versions. My watch needed the one with the tab

Vinegar is too acidic. It will corrode the blades. Use wash up liquid like Dawn (in USA) or Fairy Liquid in UK. These will clean the blades with the help of a toothbrush. Oil the heads after cleaning with a drop of shaver oil.

Thanks for the video. I got a feeling the old o ring was flat simply due to age and compression. I know when i work on cars that happens. Anyways i have ordered the o rings and battery for my old little seiko and look forward to getting it going again. Thank you.

A big thumb-up for your creativity and an even bigger thumb-down for what you do to this poor little watch, starting from placing it with the glass directly to your desk to scratching the back when removing the nut... it really hurts me to see all this. My advice: if you cannot open the watch invest the 5 bucks and bring it to a professional.
@dodeedo3 ай бұрын
the wooden table didn't damage the hardex glass, also back not scratched. in the end it is a working and worn £200 watch repaired for £15 not £100 for professional service. the back was so so stuck normal watch opening tools could not get enough torque to open it. Of course this is just my solution to the problem, does not have to be only solution
@davidjohnston42403 ай бұрын
Watch vendors should just mount a big nut on the back of watches as standard so they can easily be maintained.

I've done the same thing with a hot-melt glue gun using a piece of timber to connect to the watch back. Put the timber in the vice and twist the watch. Once removed, the glue can be peeled off.

I watched this video and said to my self that’s not good shaking your blades in a jar because they will hit the glass and it probably would hit the sharp part of the blade. Like the other review use a soft tooth brush and when cleaning brush the same way the blade go and not the other way because the brush will get cut and it will blunt the blade. If any one wants to sharpen there blades grab a piece of glass or small mirror put silicone metal polish on the mirror the turn the blades against the sharp edge just turn it round and round don’t press to hard your see the polish change colour do it for about two minutes then do the other two you’re know when they are sharp. This doesn’t need to be done a lot may be once a year or so.

WELL DONE VIDEO! i got mine about Year ago after having one for 22 years that felt apart. I was afraid to use water on this one, so I just used dry brush here and there without taking it apart. I didn't realize it is not difficult to take it apart so I did for the first time. After dry brush and compressed air cleaning, this thing shaves better than it did when new. THANKS AGAIN for down to the point Instructions!

Suggestion - leave the drain to the sink closed just incase parts are dropped. My question is whether or not the shaving heads are matched? Can I put all 3 heads into the vinegar?

Just circling back. I had bought 2 grades of diamond paste - 5 micro and 2.5 micron. I went with the 5 (blue). I did not really see much of a color change to the paste. But it was more noticeable after doing 3 blade units. My mirror had a really nice patina of scratches so, it wasn't for lack of rotations. Mine weren't that dull to begin with, so I guess that's why. In any case, it seemed to work.
