Motion sensor lights are also great to put under your van to keep mice from climbing up and munching on wiring. I'm with you when it comes to a chair as most places I camp either have picnic tables, or I can sit in the door or back hatch area. I do carry my Omnia Oven as I like to cook/bake in it, and a few collapsable items. Once nice thing about limo tinted windows...you can see out at night, but no one can see in unless you have a bright light on. I only cover my windshield and cab side windows if I cover any at all. Every time I return to home base from a camping trip I remove anything I didn't use, except for basic safety items (fire extinguisher, jump pack, etc.).

Like others have said the blue moon is just the second full moon of the month. Normally there is only one per month. It's nothing special. It does not turn blue. Also, a telescope is not easy to see much during a full moon because the craters etc appear flat and not special. I recommend to see a partial moon and then look at the boundary between dark and light. This highlights the craters and mountains and is fun to look at. The super moon is a slightly larger than average full moon, but you would have to measure to see the difference from regular full moons. Caused by the moon being closer, the moon going around the earth in a slightly non-circular orbit. Again super moons are nothing special. Amateur astronomy is a hobby for me and I often carry a small telescope in my SUV.

He lives! Good to hear from you, Kevin. Edit: Ok, that search term almost killed me! The origin of blue moon is in the 1600's if I remember right, the phrase "the moon is blue" was another way of saying something is impossible. A modern equivalent would be, "I'm the queen of England!" In modern times it simply means the second full moon in a month.

I have transitioned to cooking with Induction Cooktop. No more dangerous open flame and heat onside my minivan camper now. Yes, I also minimized what I carry inside the van. I think that over many years of traveling and living in it, we are perfecting it to our own needs.😎👍

How much power do you need to run the induction cook top? Ever use a heating blanket? How much power does that use? 12v or 110 hearing blanket?
@MoBangFoYoBucks
@MoBangFoYoBucks 6 сағат бұрын
@jmo4521 I hate heating blankets because I move a lot when sleeping. The power cable keeps getting unplugged. I use a cheap Walmart blanket inside a sleeping bag. It kept me warm in 29° weather. You can cook with induction as low as 600W. But you are better off cooking at 900W. Things get cooked faster and more crispy! All of my power supply can output above 1500W. So I cook at that level at first. Once the food boiled, I lowered it to 900W level.

It's called a blue moon because of its rarity, not its colour. Nice shirt, and so true. Most people put magnets on the back of their motion activated lights, so they can stick them anywhere on their vehicle. I have a USB chargeable fan in my minivan. It's powerful and quiet, great to keep me cool. That, and a cooling blanket. Jon in rural BC, Canada
@Brigand231
@Brigand231 2 күн бұрын
Yeah, we had a roll of magnet with sticky on the back that we did up two of our lights with. The magnets weren't very strong so I needed to put two strips on each light, but they work. As for fans, we travel with a pair of Ryobi dual source fans that can use tool batteries or a 110 extension cord since we use the same batteries for our lantern and flashlight; we already carry a charger and spare batteries with us. Our dog tends to overheat in the Summer so it's nice to have them handy no matter where we are or what we're doing.

I bought a length of rope lighting that I ran around the trim above the window. It runs on USB or AA batteries. Learned from kayaking that red lights don't attract bugs and also learned that red light does not keep you awake or affect REM sleep. The upholstery, carpet and ceiling in my van are all black. When I put my WeatherTech window covers in at night I cannot see my hand in front of my face. I turn the rope lights to red and leave them on all night. They are not very bright and do not keep me awake, but are enough to allow me to see a bit if I wake up in the middle of the night.

Maybe i am spoiled in the opposite direction. My school of thought is that for ME as an ex-trucker I'd rather deal with slightly less mileage than having to deal with a militude of sensors. ie airbags, emissions transmission... Thank you for sharing what you have learned, I took notes and am going on my first camp out, 3 nights this weekend. I would point out one tip for you. There is nothing of any nutritional value in sweet beverages, colas etc. I gave them up years ago so all I need is water. I drink coffee and brew tea but that takes very little space. Just think about the space you would save. Beer and wine can at least give you a little relaxation but colas and sweet drinks are just an unhealthy, space hogging, mental addiction.

Thomas, as far as what to do with the seat belts when removing back seats in a van...if it's going to be temporary, I'd leave them. If you're going to keep the van as a camper, then I'd remove them - however, some are a bit of a pain (retracting behind plastic side panels, etc), so it is okay to leave them as long as they're not in your way.
