Hey my friend, got a quick question for you. I have Phyllobates, tinctorius, and Leucs. I’ve been told these guys are very hard compared to the darts I have, what are your thoughts on it? Are they that much harder to keep than what I already have?

You should look into a moss wall for the back drop! I personally used the wet moss mix from frogdaddy.com Then it’s all dependent on how big your enclosure is! There’s tons of frog safe species to look into on joshsfrogs as well as frog daddy.com that’s where I started

Yo, so what do you do in the event of accidental contact?
@alternateaquatics6 күн бұрын
It’s all good, they’re actually only toxic in the wild. It’s the bugs they eat in nature that gives them toxic properties. It’s actually the frogs that would need to worry if I touched one since we carry oils and chemicals etc on our hands that can secrete through their skin and harm them

New subscriber here! I love the humble and self depreciating commentary! Your build process always looks so chaotic and messy and has me doubting every time, but then you put the finishing touches on and they are some of the best looking builds. I truly appreciate you showing all the messy parts, mistakes and fixes in your videos. These are a much more REAL representation of what the process of building a terrarium/vivarium/palidarium is like. Having been through it once myself, I appreciate that aspect of your channel! Please don't change in that regard! GL on the future of this channel!

I’m a little disappointed that when assembling the polyudarium, non-natural materials are used for the base and wall, foam rubber, glue and silicone, which take up so much space. Natural materials (peat, soil, drainage, or wood with stones and just a little wire for rigidity) could perhaps bring more balance and benefit to the system. But this is the first impression, the first thought that came to mind. I'm not an expert in this at all, I'm just trying to understand how such systems work.
@alternateaquatics17 күн бұрын
I totally agree that can be beneficial! One of my main aims was to keep the weight of the structure as low as possible. Incase I need to move it out of my apartment in the future. As far as the foam etc everything is aquarium safe and as long as you let the chemicals gas off from curing you won’t have any issues. The entire back wall is now a giant moss wall that’s about an inch thick.
@lettaletta517818 күн бұрын
does the colony need light?
@alternateaquatics17 күн бұрын
Yeah but you don’t want direct sunlight from a window. Could cook them haha
@lettaletta517818 күн бұрын
Do the walls of the jar fog up from water? Do you ventilate the jar? I made a similar colony, but as soon as I close the jar, after a short time the walls fog up. Is this normal? Should I add some moss or charcoal? Or reduce the water from below?
@alternateaquatics17 күн бұрын
I’ll sometimes get a little fog. It could be the temp is too high. Usually when it fogs up after a couple days the water will condense enough to form water droplets that will run down the side of the glass. I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Just open the jar every 3-4 days and sprinkle in some high quality fish food flakes! You’ll be good! 👍🏻
@lettaletta517817 күн бұрын
@@alternateaquatics Thank you very much for the answer! Now it fogs up less, but I open the jar often and try to see my bugs, but, unfortunately, they like to hide. I have fish food, but I heard that they feed it a mixture of nutritional yeast and dried ground mushrooms (1:1). There is enough protein and vitamins, and this mixture does not become moldy. I will try two options. How long does it take to reproduce? Some bugs are still small and need to grow. Doesn't mold grow if you put in too much fish food?
@alternateaquatics17 күн бұрын
Just sprinkle in enough for them to eat in about a day. They’ll come out of the soil to eat it, do you have a drainage layer? If you see them bunched up on top of the water it means they’re reproducing. They grow up in about 2 weeks

@@alternateaquatics I see a pair of bugs in three places on the surface of the water. One is large, the second is slightly smaller. They are moving. Sometimes the small one climbs onto the big one. Sometimes, one seems to be glued to the other's backside. Sometimes the movements are erratic or unnoticeable. It’s not clear if this is a female and a male or a female and a baby? Why are there two of them everywhere? And what are they doing there? I'm scared that they will drown, maybe they can't get out? This happened about 4-5 days after the colony was added to the jar.
