1/48 Revell B17F "Memphis Belle" - Part 1, The start....

In this fun video, I make a start on this old kit, and as usual we have lots of fun associated with the subject matter....so a few things B17 related have been thrown in for your entertainment! So here is Part 1 of the build series of this one......I hope you enjoy it! =)

I bought this kit more than 10 yrs ago. Started building it. Painted fuselage the beginner ugly way. Just moved city's and dug it out. Still have everything in the box so will start to build again. Then start on the Airfix Sptifire hopefully for xmas :)

Did this for my son some time ago. Proper modelling and can make a lovely model when finished.

@@SimonWebbRCandModellingChannel can’t really remember. Didn’t like the plastic, too hard and not easy to glue up because of the coloured plastic.

@@alanmorris8783 Hmmmm interesting......just wondering why the colour of the plastic makes it difficult to glue !?! And yes I have noticed that the plastic is brittle.....

I got this kit, but bought the decals and painted it to resemble "Ye Olde Pub" , the B17F that was escorted to the North Sea by the Bf109 of German Ace Franz Stigler. I by no means like this camouflage on the plane. So I preferred the plain olive drab and the nicer decals of "Ye Olde Pub ".

Great looking build I'm in the process of building one too. I think mines older than yours because I don't have any cockpit decals for the Bombay door or instrument panel. Plus mines an olive drab color. Thanks for posting this

the referenced kit in 1975 is the Monogram 17G kit... which has a nice interior... whats nice is the G kits interior fits perfectly into the F kit by Revell which doesn't have much of an interior...

Simon, great video as I have been following each step, Thanks for the hints to deviate. Hsd to learn the lesson on the step 6 the hard way... Question I have is painting the grey underbelly. Did you use the airbrush after taping for a straingt line down the fuselage or by hand with a brush?

The line is masked first. This allows you to adjust it exactly. It is a clean line on the real aircrsft so a masked line is perfect if you use a tape that doesn't seep paint. All painting apart from tiny items is airbrushed. Thanks for your lovely comment and good luck!!

The Scalemates site refers to a B-17 G, this is a F model. Different kit?

As I say in my videos I do not verify the autheticity of the information on their site. But friends seemed to agree with it. A lovely build.

the b-17F is my favourite b-17. i first built the revell 1/72 scale b-17 F about 58 years ago. it looked so cool when i was 12. monogram did not make this 1/48 scale kit though. revell copied monogram by enlarging its 1/72 scale b-17. you can use monogram parts because they are interchangeable. why not? monogram is the better kit. i built this 1/48 scale b-17F when it came out. i found it to be a poor man's attempt at copying the monogram kit, which is a b-17G. the revell kit has no flight deck to speak of, no bombardier/navigator station, etc. I simply cannibalized one of my monogram b-17 kits and jazzed the revell kit so that it looked excdellent. there really wasn't a 1/48 scale b-17 F out there 47 years ago when the Monogram b-17G kit came out.. i built this 1/48 scale B-17 F about 40 years ago.

Modelling is the British spelling I think. Both are correct.

@@SimonWebbRCandModellingChannel yes, you are right. it comes down to the british and american spelling of the word. and though i'm canadian, ive been infected by U.S. grammar. great model, btw.
