My husband heartily supports me as I follow Autumn’s eating plan. But he doesn’t follow it. He still eats like it’s the 1970s. And except for kombucha, he regularly buys and eats all of the food and drink items on this list. So… yes, we have ice cream and tortilla chips in the house and fruit juice, etc. I don’t eat that stuff. I just don’t. Occasionally I see something on a shelf or ice cream in the freezer and I get an “I want” craving. It lasts for a second. I smile at myself and express gratitude for the other parts of my mind that instantly remember how bad I felt regularly consuming sugar or snacking all day long. I remember how difficult it’s become to lose weight and how hard I’ve worked to do it. So bypassing all those foods that are in the house isn’t as difficult as you might think.

I can relate. Sometimes he brings junk food home and I’m surprised I can resist it…a first, and all bc of this plan.

Same here. My family is so supportive, but they haven’t changed a bit. I make pasta and rice for my family’s meals all the time, but I don’t ever eat it. We have junk food in the house regularly, but again, I find it’s easier to avoid when I remember how I feel after I eat that stuff. The feeling of real control over what I put in my body is amazing.

Same: There are cookies, candy, ice cream, sugary cereal, sugar drinks all stored on my pantry, refrigerator, cabinets and freezer. I did explain that his bringing those items into our home makes for a hostile living environment for me, but he persists😅. Jokes aside, those food items are his choice and I respect that (not really, but it sounds like the adult thing to say). Truth be told, sometimes when he isn’t here, I purge some of those items in the trash. Later, when he starts looking for them, I say: “oh, yeah. Didn’t you eat those last week?”🤣

One of the better channels for all of us that make eating way more complicated than it needs to be. A good compromise between basic nutrition and how most of us actually eat. Satiation is key and it only comes with you ingest enough nutrients. Not a fan of ever drinking nutrients, it tends to make overeating energy far easier.

I stopped buying Kombucha over a year ago and as for coffee I used buy those french vanilla creamers and use a lot of it. I drink a lot of green tea and black coffee which was a taste that was hard to acquire lol. But I use heavy cream or half and half, but I never thought of putting vanilla extract into the coffee great tip. Thank you for the video it really helped a lot.

The Calorie Tracker message was so helpful for me. I started IF last week and was tracking all my food again, and it became so obsessive. Not to mention I felt hungry all day long, even after a big meal. I am thinking about food all day long, hungry all day, and obsessed with my #'s on the calorie counter. Which made this "journey" of IF not good at all for my mental health nor my physical health. I also put on weight in a week vs. losing it, even with working out 5 days a week. To simple it down to, 30g of Protein...then add fats to satiate, then fiber is way easier. Time to break up with my calorie counter!

I don't know how Autumn feels about this but I recently started having 100g protein per day (was recommended especially for women over 40/50). I do IF too, love it. Once you've been doing it for a few weeks its a breeze! So, since upping my protein a lot I feel more energised and I am not craving sweet things! This is a revelation for me as I have such a sweet tooth. Im amazed so far :D And thank you SO MUCH, Autumn, for your keto coffee! Another revelation that has transformed my health xx

100% agree. I have just added back International Delight creamer. Coffee is too bitter for me. So I use heavy whipping cream and about 2 teaspoons of International Delight. I agree with all of these, but confess to having an ice cream maker.😊 I use it for frozen yogurt-almost same ingredients as your break-fast smoothie with monk fruit. Only use it when we have family /guests to help us eat it up.
@AutumnBates
@AutumnBates 2 жыл бұрын
But this is SUCH a better option than keeping ice cream in the freezer! An ice cream maker requires actually *making* the ice cream, so you're less likely to just go snack on it throughout the day. I own a pasta maker for the same reason - I love making pasta as a fun treat but because it requires so much active work, I don't do it often.

Yes! Ditto on MF sugar. One of the things that helps me is that we're putting it into popsicle molds since we don't have room for a big block of it. That means that we can't fudge and have "just one more" bite. You just have just one serving, or have to admit to yourself that you're having a double serving. ;-) You want the kind that you lay down horizontal, stuffing it from the bottom to the top is really frustrating. Like this one: smile.amazon.com/Ouddy-Popsicle-Silicone-Cavities-Homemade/dp/B07QXY34TQ/ref=sr_1_7?crid=H9QY1OXVXXD4&keywords=Silicone%2BPopsicle%2BMolds&qid=1653416483&s=home-garden&sprefix=silicone%2Bpopsicle%2Bmolds%2Cgarden%2C147&sr=1-7&th=1

When I don’t eat enough protein in the morning I tend to look for snacks at 2 or 3pm. If I don’t eat enough protein for dinner (at 5pm), I can go to bed with hunger. Once I fall asleep I don’t feel hungry anymore. I don’t eat lunch except some fruit. It is also the only tine I eat fruit. Eating like this I don’t crave sugar or snack. My scale is my clothes.

I have a few smoothie things I keep on hand to rotate between, but my bases are always a half cup of beans, a tbsp of peanut butter, nut butter, or sunflower butter, and enough non dairy milk to liquefy all the solids. My other rule, IF I add fruit, no more than a half cup. But mostly, my solids are rounded out in vegetables and a few spice add ins like ginger, cinnamon, cacao powder or nibs, turmeric, and nutritional yeast. Almost always a tbsp of flax seeds, usually tomatoes, a medium sized carrot, a half cup of beet, q cup of mixed greens, and a tbsp of broccoli sprouts, only after I've had my morning water though. Every morning, the first thing I consume is at least 8 Oz of cold water, with lemon slice. Since recovering from diverticulitis and a temporary colostomy, my pledge to myself was healthier habits, but honestly, the water I've done for years now even before that. You can not have a groggy morning if you start with a glass of ice cold lemon water, you're instantly awake and alert.

For me, the #1 thing I never buy anymore to keep at home is soda. I haven't entirely eliminated soda from my diet. I'll let myself have 1 20oz bottle soda per week, to go with my "cheat" (or I guess you would call it treat) meal. But that's it. Ice cream is definitely a good one too. If I bought ice cream, I would definitely eat it every day or close to it. LOL!

Dang!! I too am obsessed with kombucha - so much so that my kids and I call it “booch” lol. But it’s really kind of like a treat - like I used to do w a soda once or twice a month kind of thing. In fact, it seems to work as a sort of tonic for my gut (perhaps the probiotics and the carbonation - which I love!) I know there’s some sugar in it but for some reason it seems oddly detoxifying feeling to me (and the kids when they have an upset stomach or something)…. Depends on what kind as well.

Sugar is necessary for the fermentation process and if u look at a G.T. Label it actually says “0 added sugars.” One bottle I just checked contains 12 grams of sugar. And that’s probably from the real fruit juices it contains.

Typically post-workout would be the best time to consume something that contains more starches or sugars, as the muscles are more primed to absorb excess glucose. Workouts that use larger muscle groups (such as leg day) can be particularly useful!

@@AutumnBates ok, thanks, just wanted to make sure I wasn't losing it. I know juice isn't ideal on a regular basis, just wanted to clarify that no sugar is added to the natural fruit ingredients. This is what I used to get as well! It's technically not considered "added sugar" because the sugar is coming from kiwi juice.

It is great to be that disciplined n practice what you believe....it's hard to go to an Italian restaurant n not eat pasta😥 or Mexican restaurants n not eat chips or tortilla based dishes...no bread, pizza? How about beans n lentils, aren't these healthy? Wouldn't someone like you b ok eating these foods since you are very active n doubt will gain weight? Great info you provide on how to be healthy.

Nothing better, but then, wasnt feeling so great, gaining a bit of weight and I started watching your vids and....I gave up sugar, OH YES, and now? I don't crave it at all 🤗 in fact, not even chocolate unless it's 90-95% dark, nope and rarely do I eat even that, when I want something sweet, berries or another piece of fruit after dinner Thanks, but my bad gut bacteria are very upset with you, Autumn! 🤔🤣🤣🤣

I agree that intermittent fasting is definitely sustainable. I don’t know if keto/carnivore/atkins/paleo are sustainable. I think it would be sustainable 10,000 years ago but I don’t know if it’s sustainable today. With birthdays, office events, holidays, and vacations are just a surrender.

I've been fasting for years and found it really easy to maintain. As for Keto, I'm personally not Keto. But for some people who are very carb sensitive, eating much lower levels of carbohydrates can be useful (and might be necessary). But I'm all for the treat days, especially for special occasions like birthdays!

I eat pasta but not often and with more sauce less pasta. Im more interested in eating food from actual ingredients so im afraid none of these plant milks they are nearly all processed and really environmentally unfriendly. Organic whole milk, grass fed butter and meat. I make my own bread. Yes its more expensive ( cheaper in the uk than the us though) im also only just feeding my self and no kids which is easier. I think we just eat too much these days and are much less active, i certainly was. Now i am trying to move more and eat less no snacks. So far so good.

Guys! The more you know. Here’s why I’m not giving these 2 up 😸 Kombucha: Sugar is necessary for the fermentation process and if u look at a G.T. Label it actually says “0 added sugars.” One bottle I just checked contains 12 grams of sugar. And that’s probably from the real fruit juices it contains. Alternative pastas: still a great option for GF ppl, which is who it’s made for. Something like lentil pasta also provides you with fiber & is very satisfying. More so than regular GF pasta. But yeah sometimes GF foods have filler junk, but not all!

Except fruit juice isn't healthy either? Fruit juice is all the sugar of a fruit without the fiber, which is the healthy part that slows down the sugar in the fruit in the first place and prevents that unhealthy insulin spike.

I almost feel like nutritionists are the only people who understand me. I would need you with me to explain this stuff to my mother and why living off of crackers and chips doesn't work. Also explain how the substances that go into her body must be filtered by her organs, she seems to think she can just consume substance cocktails with no consequences. Same with the creamer. It's a vicious cycle of stay up on purpose to get up and drink coffee crammed full of creamer + sweet n low. Gahhh!!!

You talk a lot about having breakouts and bloating when you didn’t eat right, but we’re you seriously overweight prior to gaining your nutritionist knowledge or did you catch it before that started to really become that kind of issue? My weight has yo-yo’d sign high school . When I graduated, I was 5’8” , 142 lbs. I’ve been as heavy as 184, currently at 154 and holding by cutting so many starches and juice and the like. At 53, should I be do HIIT to drop more fat or …?I definitely get my steps and then some every day. Thanks

Bloating and breakouts were some of my biggest wellness concerns. I also had even LESS muscle mass than I do now with slightly higher body fat percentage. So body composition and gut health were my main goals. I recommend you checkout Jeannette's story and her tips. She lost over 45 pounds at the age of 53. I have always liked Autumn even though she often gets it wrong. Fasting has no benefit beyond what one gets from losing weight. However this was a fair and good video. Fasting is a viable tool to reduce calories for many people and if it helps a person lose weight there's nothing wrong with it as long as we understand it is a form of calorie restriction. The part of this video I appreciate is that she doesn't say don't eat bread or protein bars she say she avoids because it causes her to overeat or just didn't agree with her. For me that's peanut butter. I have to avoid peanut butter or ill eat it non stop. always good to avoid all trigger foods if weight loss is the goal. Good job Autumn, hopefully we are seeing you transition past the insulin =Fat storage narrative. I do have one question though? I have heard you say you want to build muscle, have you considered eating more? very hard to build muscle if you are very very lean. Not a criticism in any way just a question.
@AutumnBates
@AutumnBates 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! I disagree with the statement that fasting is purely a form of calorie restriction, as there are quite a few hormonal differences between a calorie restricted state and a fasting state. Just as we know certain elevated hormones are required for muscle building, there are also hormonal cascades that can lead to a hindrance in using body fat. And it's also not to say insulin is the end all when it comes to weight gain - as I mentioned in this video, there are also hormonal concerns that can lead to over-eating when certain foods are combined or processed/refined. Poor sleep and high stress are also well known issues. But considering over 100 million Americans are insulin resistant, addressing insulin is a great place to start for many individuals. Regarding my muscle mass goal, I don't eat very "lean". I load my plate up with quite a few high quality fats and I also strategically use starch for muscle recovery.

Respectfully, I’m curious about your credentials to say Autumn gets it wrong. I don’t necessarily have an opinion either way as I’m not educated in dietetics, however her education holds weight in what she’s saying in this video I would think.
@strikefirststrikehard780

@@AutumnBates Thank you for responding. I agree there are hormonal differences however that does not negate the fact that energy balance is shown time and time again to be the driver of weight loss or gain. In fact dozens of meta analysis where calories are equated show this but you already know that. I also agree hormones and sleep are critical. If we are hungry ie ghrelin we will be more inclined to overeat. Anyway My question was not around the fat content of your diet as i know keto or IF individuals often eat a ton of fat. I was asking if you believe it would be beneficial to gain a bit of bodyweight in order to facilitate muscle gain? typically if a person is very lean its a sign they are using all the incoming energy and there is not much left for anabolism. again not a criticism just a question. interested in your thoughts.

Hi Ash, you are correct she is educated. I also have a masters degree and I can tell you it doesn't mean anything. Unless you are are a professional researcher you are only offering an opinion interpreting data is a skill. I make no claims unless I have picked them up from actual experts. There are nutrition PHDS and massive amounts of research that negate the Carbohydrate Insulin model of obesity. Fasting is a fantastic way to control calories. There are dozens of human control trials where they have calorie equated participants some fast some don't an the results are statistically the same. Fasting and Keto are only tools. Dr. Adrian Chavez is an excellent example as is Dr. Layne Norton. Biolayne on KZfaq. I think this video got a lot right you should minimize food that will make you overeat. I No hate at all towards Autumn she genuinely wants to help I believe. Thanks for the comment! I wish you well!
