Hogan was pissed at the Royal Rumble because he got booed heavily and Sid got cheered heavily. The fans cheered when he got eliminated. Apparently the WWE network edited the crowd reaction, but people who were there said it was a lot different.

Even Mick Foley nearly walked out of the then WWF after Montreal from what I've heard! Jim Cornette said that he got out of there early that night to avoid the backstage blowups as soon as he saw what happened. And as far as Taker's actions are concerned, didn't he basically use his Locker Room Leader status to tell Vince, 'make it right with Bret, or you won't have a company tomorrow,' with the clear implication that he'd be leaving and taking most of the roster with him? The supposed fact that Bret would later tell Vince that if he was still there after he got out of the shower, [Bret] would punch him out, and McMahon responded by taking the blow... Doesn't make up for the screwjob, or any of his many other dishonorable actions over the years, but I respect it. He knew he deserved it, and he took it.

@@fangsabre in all fairness, it’s Shawn’s fault for telling Brett he wouldn’t put him over 2 months before survivor series. All Shawn had to do was shut his mouth and have a match but his ego led to Vince and Brett’s blowup. Vince had the power to change it but Shawn was so hysterical he would have just jumped to wcw to be with Nash and hall. Vince couldn’t afford to lose 2 top guys especially when they were in the championship picture. Vince placated Shawn and screwed bret as it was the path of least resistance.

@aswinastro
@aswinastro 3 жыл бұрын
To be honest, he was a polarizing figure even in the late 80s (88-89) and people started disliking him further during the earlier 90s. There were at least two incidents where the crowd actually cheered for the Heels when they either eliminated or defeated Hogan. The first example is when Jake the Snake Roberts supposedly hit Hogan with a DDT and was cheered so loudly that Hogan threw a ruckus and refused to work with Jake again. The same thing happened in one of the royal rumbles where Sid eliminated Hogan and the crowd cheered it - the commentators were fed lines by Vince to hide this fact and the video taping removed the cheers and replaced it with Boos.

I see both sides of that thing with Titus. Teddy Long said it perfectly when he was asked about it. Titus Plays Too Much. That was not the time. Even if it was true that it was so he would let Stephanie go through first that wasn't his place. All that was too serious for him to be screwing around. But I do agree Vince's reaction was WAY over the top. Suspending him for 3 months so he misses Wrestlemania and having to be talked down from not firing him? That is over kill. Take him off tv a couple of shows let that hit to his wallet be his lesson.

Titus: never understood why people don’t understand Vince’s reaction. There’s something especially infuriating when another man: 1. Implies he’s Mr. Chivalry, 2. Implies YOU are in need of a “how to treat women” class, taught by him, 3. Does this all in front of other people. 4. Does this in front of a woman you’re interested in. Nine times out of ten, it’s a guy “going into business for himself” to look like the babyface. It’s the most enraging thing. I’ve seen a decent bar fight started by this exact And it’s not just about sex/romance. If another guy did the above with a female relative, I’d get almost as pissed, because again he’s (in your head) diminishing your manhood to exaggerate his own. “oh no, YOU obviously don’t know how to behave, does he gals? Let me demonstrate for you.” So, all that and it being on national television, I understand where Vince was coming from, though obviously Titus is just a good guy and didn’t mean any of the above. I’m not saying Vince was right, just that his out of proportion reaction makes some sense.
