Fashion trends come and go but no matter what is "trending" there are a number of key pieces that, regardless of the trends, will ALWAYS look great. These are the pieces that form the foundation of a very versatile wardrobe. So today I thought I would shine the spotlight on 10 fashion essentials that will not only make getting dressed a whole lot easier this Summer but will make creating outfits so much easier for years to come. I still can’t bring myself to wear sneakers with my skirts and dresses, I’d still rather wear a sandal in summer or a boot in winter. We used to have to wear sneakers for commuting in formal business wear and got so much bad press for it. Apparently, men thought we should hobble through our miles-long walks home in our heeled pumps!

Yes I agree that converse look great. I actually think it's a look that just takes a little getting used to but once you do there's no turning back!

I remember that, but I also seem to remember we weren't commuting in slim sneakers like Converse or tennis shoes, but rather the bulkier athletic type of sneaker/running shoes/basketball shoes. Less bulky versions look more balanced and go better with many business looks.

Ooh Leoni, I think that's my favourite outfit on you so far! The colours are so complementary with your hair and colouring. I love the sleeves too. It's a look I definitely go for. I especially enjoy a vest whether it's under or over an outfit when it's a bit chilly. Thank you for another great video.

For sneakers I highly recommend Vans shoes. They have tons of styles, different fabrics, infinite colors + prints, & fair prices with great sales! You can even customize your own! If you like Converse high tops, try Vans Sk8 Hi. They look similar but are SO much more comfortable! Especially if you get the Comfy Cush (memory foam insoles). They were my go-to in my last job, on my feet 10 hours a day. The slip-ons look really nice with outfits too. I'm not affiliated w/ them or anything, just sharing because I love them and used to struggle finding comfortable, cute, affordable sneakers. Just got a couple pairs for my son, now he loves them too lol!

Banana republic this year has beautiful cargo pants style without all the pockets and bagginess. I bought a pair of green and they fit like a glove. They’re not baggy they are really flattering on me and they have elastic at the bottom. They come in green blue and I think tan.

I loved all the styles you made out of your stylish wrap dress.(the pattern was interesting)(that dress was made for you, gorgeous!) i have always liked wrap dresses with long sleeves, but a problem for me is if they are tied around the worse part of my waist then I'll look for another one. I I recently bought beige dressy cargo pants, high waisted with a belt and ankle length carrot(?) style. I like the way they look and they go with many tops /shirts I have. Matching sets is one of my favorites, but then everything here turned out of be my favorite.

I have become a huge fan of the buttondown. I have purchased several this year in different patterns, colors, and even sleeve lengths. They can be embellished with smocking, puffy sleeves, ruffles, etc. So many options now so they don't have to ever be boring. A plain white one has so many uses. Some of their other great attributes is that they are easy on and off, don't mess up your hair, and are so versatile.

I like the wrap dress idea. I am a fan of refashioning a garment to make it into another type of clothing. It's rather popular at the moment, but I am always in favor of it. I hope you include more of this type of thing going forward.

Thank you for saying wrap dresses are not universally flattering; I totally agree! I used to love matching sets when I was younger and having a capsule wardrobe seemed unattainable (It just seemed impossible to find pieces that looked great on me - cut and color - went with each other, and were high quality). At this age, I realize that I was right: finding those pieces is time consuming and takes concerted effort. But the internet, and channels like yours have made fashion so much more understandable and accessible, and I am slowly moving toward my fashion ideal; so, thank you for that as well!

At one point I had over fifteen DVF wrap dresses in my wardrobe!! Then I had an epiphany about raising my neckline and I slowly got rid of them. These days I prefer a high neckline (Trinny Woodall refers to a 'messy neck when there's too much skin on show). I haven't revisited that wrap dress era but I loved wearing them when I was going through that phase. I believe DVF is the gold standard in wrap dresses. I love my Breton stripe tops. I feel very chic, timeless, French and classic. They just work!! I wear it with my neutral trench coat for a reliable outfit that is always on point. I am a huge fan of monochrome dressing. Whenever I wear a maxi skirt I get so many compliments. I love the fact that I'm all covered up and the flow of the fabric does the talking. Paired with my Superga thick sole white sneakers, it looks timeless. The classic button down shirt can be dressed up or down and I am in an accumulation phase with this item as I'm really seeing the value in them. Alot of the items you mentioned are classic and timeless. They have been around for nearly a Century and still just as relevant today.

I love how you described the flow of the fabric on a maxi doing the talking - that’s so true. Your style sounds fabulous. I’m not sure I completely agree with Trinny on the messy neck. I know what she’s talking about and feel it regularly but I’m trying to resist the temptation to cover up my messy bits. But I agree on some days doing exactly that makes me feel better and that’s exactly what a maxi does I suppose. Such great food for thought - thanks for sharing 😊

Yes to all these pieces. I like to keep some version of them in my wardrobe. Right now a black wrap dress, taupe trousers and a striped shirt are my most worn pieces. Even during the hot and humid summer here in the southeastern part of the US I wear button blouses. Buildings keep the air conditioner blasting. Plus I think they make an outfit look more put together than a t-shirt.

I really like your wrap dress and the way you style it the 10 different ways will be something I am going to try on all my maxi dresses when the Fall season comes around. I agree on everything you mention and not a big fan of wearing sneakers with dresses but so here for them with shorts or shorter skirts that are at least at my knee anything longer will probably make me look like a bag lady. You look lovely in your wrap dress - it really suits you and seems very versatile.It’s strange to think it’s winter over there with you whilst we’re in the middle of a hot summer here in Greece. I’ve really had a complete de clutter of my wardrobe over the last 2 years and have concentrated on purchasing more classical pieces to make up a capsule wardrobe many of which you mentioned.💖🌸

Do not like wrap dresses and I was a teenager in the 70’s when Diane Von Furstenburg created the famous style. I have a big bust and hate how it separates the bust and gapes open. I’m on board for all the other pieces 😻

I got some black white converse slide ons they are so versatile and easy on and off as I like to be barefoot when sitting! No to maxi skirts black everything wrap dresses so so. I’ve been loving my shirts and one is pink and white striped. Great video ❤️

@@Thestyleinsider. Ohhhhh. . . Sperrys and Eastlands are brands of “topsiders” or loafers. Goes well with school uniforms. In fact, were mandatory in some cases. They usually tied, but were sometimes HELL to break in, so we wore them until they were so shabby the administration would insist we throw them away.

Wrap dresses have been favs of mine since the 70s when I owned six Diana Von Furstenbergs they were beautiful silk knit I think they were, anyway a finer fabric than these days. I have an hourglass petite figure so they still look amazing on me., I wish I had THOSE originals but I have about five new ones.

I think the secret to maxi skirts as a short-ish, curvy person is to wear one that doesn't fan out too much. I have a maxi dress with t-shirt sleeves and a straight skirt with side slits to the kneee on both sides, and I look so tall and thin in it. I also had a maxi skirt that was tiered, but heavy at the bottom , so while it swung when I walked, it hung straight and had the same effect.

It felt like you were reading my mind when you talked about button down shirts. I have a set of three really lovely ones in pastel colors that I bought almost ten years ago. In the interim, I almost got rid of them several times because I got bored and also had a period of weight gain. So glad I held on to them though! In the future, I'm just not going to get rid of any nice, basic pieces period, and trying not to buy anything that I don't feel I would want to keep for years.

Thank you for this video. I have a black long sleeve wrap dress and I went to put it on and it was just so body hugging. I put on undergarments to make it smooth but I wasn’t happy with it. I didn’t wear it. I’m glad you’re telling me how many other ways I can wear it because it just sits in my closet it’s a shame.

Funny thing, I've owned a wrap dress ( knee length for fall or winter) for years but for whatever reason I never wear it...so guess I'm not a fan, right? LOL... Thanks 💟💜💟

I think you give very good advice and I like the channel. I would politely suggest you spend time styling the bookshelf behind you. The empty square and the one with the line rock from the beach do not say “style”. Seeing your talent in fashion I think you can do better here. I am only writing this to be helpful, I am watching the video and can’t keep looking at the background.

Stripes can look busy if the stripe pattern is narrow...bc the white stripes create a strong contrast to colored stripes that can be visually jarring.. Wrap dresses are universally flattering if it's in a stretchy fabric... it gives a waistline to a straight body needing curves...where people go wrong is choosing a dress that doesn't cover the bust.

I really like the outfit in 6:32. Hope I can find some putty cargos like those! And yes, shirts but as long as they're relaxed. I'm not to keen on the fitted, tucked in shirt look.

Yes you’re right Teresa I thrifted it for $8 esp to wear over this dress. I actually think it is an top in a very fine knit but it worked perfectly and the price was right too 👍🏼😂

Women in NYC have been wearing sneakers with dresses forever because it’s convenient while catching the subway. But I always thought it was such a chic look 👀 I love all your suggestions. I’m wearing my cargo pants with heels I think they look so sexy together with a stripe shirt.

Yes I love cargo pants with heels too and I remember seeing women in NYC wearing sneakers with dresses when I first visited about 30 years ago and I loved the look!

I have a short waist and long legs/arms. Wrap dresses are hard to fit - waist is usually too low, and tailoring means taking the thing apart. I do use as a kimono, etc. But any suggestions for short-waisted girls?

I agree about wrap dresses being not for everyone. But, a lot of those recommended pieces will be useful with changes in the US. More conservative/ man-repeller fashion is starting to pop up.

Wrap dresses don’t work well for us fuller-busted figures, there’s just not enough fabric to cover the bust, at least in the ones I’ve tried.

This is difficult to find good matching sets , I would like a cotton one, with not too large pants and not too thin. For all clothes I agréé with you, except sneackers ,I cannot Wear them with dresses and skirts , flat shoes of course.

Wrap dresses are usually soft and feminine, but don't look very intelligent. Wearing such a wrap dress may make a woman look attractive to some members of the opposite sex, but also make people see her as delicate and frail, and not take her seriously. Of course, nowadays wrap dresses were made of various materials and can sometimes look pretty sharp and structured, or relaxed and vacationing (for example, a navy linen wrap dress), so the vibes can be different too.

@@nomvulavmoloko6255 Depends on the line of business I guess. On my part, we need to appear resolute, practical, and professional. So I tend to stay away from anything appearing to be delicate, romantic, girly, soft, drapey, flowy, etc. Nobody says you can't wear a jacket or blazer over a wrap dress, but then your colleague will see you as a 'husband-seeker', and you'll ruin your career development. On the other hand, think of our male counterpart, their 'unspeakable dress code' is far more restrictive than women. So as a woman, we are still lucky.
