If it follows the books, the third Dune movie will literally have Paul and Stilgar have a conversation about Hitler, referring to him as ancient history. The memory of Hitler is so far in the past that Stilgar hadn’t even heard of him. It’s kind of freaky just how far into the future Dune takes place. Paul is basically like, “he was responsible for the deaths of six million people. He was long considered history’s greatest monster.” And then Stilgar, still totally brainwashed into believing Paul to be a messiah, basically replied with “only 6 million? Our Jihad has cleansed the universe of 61 billion. That’s rookie numbers compared to what you have accomplished, Mahdi.”

Horus heresy alone is a already pretty overwhelming read for a lot of people. Then start throwing in other series and short stories that aren't that short but compared to the rest yeah I guess. I've probably read over 60 books from the black library and man it's not much more than a good cup from the ocean of lore. Added note. There's 338 books in the Warhammer 40k universe and still going too. That's a lot of lore.

The thing about the spice, is that on Arrakis, it is *_EVERYWHERE._* It's in the food, it's in the water, it's in the buildings they live in, the clothes they wear, it's even in the air they breathe. Basically Mentats are trained from a young age to have high levels of processing and analytical ability. There's a biological component, since you need to have a certain level of inherent ability to become a full mentat, but the training is the important thing and anyone who isn't cognitively impaired can be trained to the point of being a walking encyclopedia. A full mentat is capable of taking that data and not just regurgitating it but processing it intelligently and coming to fast and fairly accurate conclusions. The least of which would take a very intelligent normal human twenty minutes to look up the information, fifteen minutes to do the calculations, and thirty minutes to come to a conclusion would take a full mentat a second or two to do the whole thing.

When you think about it, space feudalism makes a lot of sense. It's a system of government which is delegated and distributed among local lords, who govern their small territories, then bigger lords which manage them as well, all the way up to the emperor who manages all the biggest lords in name, while not owning much land himself. That's perfect when you're dealing with such vast distances that it's near impossible to deal with issues yourself as a leader. And you need people to govern individual planets in a government that controls over 10,000 of them.

Probably doesn't get into it, but the "reason" why we get so much deep lore on the ecology of Dune (aside from how actually important it is in precisely how power works) is that what the Empire knows about Dune is largely due to the research of Kynes, who was genius botanist.

I was confused about the importance of spice in Dune lore as well. But after a while, I learned that it has this insane effect on the human brain. There's no advanced technology in the Dune universe that works on its own, instead, everything from FTL drives to supercomputer level statistical crunching requires a certain type of human. For statistics and computation? You got mentats. For travel from one planet to another? You got navigators. Spice is required for the super-psychic navigators to have the mental powers to get from one place to another. This situation has led to the premier travel agency, the spacing guild, owning a monopoly on FTL travel.

Frank Herbert was a journalist. Once you understand that, you can understand why most of his writing is exposition and explanation and very little action. He pretty much researched everything he could about everything he wrote about in Dune. It's also why there are inconsistencies and plot holes between the books he wrote. He was less worried about canonical cohesion and more worried about being accurate to the concepts he was trying to empart on the reader.

Now you gotta react to Lord of the Rings lore! That franchise too has an insanely rich history.

Remember not to feed your sand worm harkeneds. They do find them delicious, but the high chemical concentration can cause bowl issues.

I love watching your Lore reaction video's Lord Nuxanor! This DUNE video is my favorite so far! My humble request for a future video, Final Fantasy XIV! I would love to see your reaction to the fall and rise of FFXIV, how 1.0 failed horribly, nearly ruined Square Enix, they gamble with Yoshi-P and his plan to blow up the game and rebuild it from scratch, and build a new lore from what was established from 1.0. This is my suggestion and request to you lord Nuxanor.

Sounds like you only seen the newest of the movies. If you saw the older movies, you would have seen the Navigators and got more information. But to really know everything you have to read the books. And if I remember correctly, there was the Orange Catholic Book. And a couple other religions going on.

Nux, you gotta watch Wendigoon's video on the Mystery Flesh Pit National Park. With how much you like eldritch horror, I'm sure you'll love it. Also, the project is criminally under covered online. Wendigoon is one of the only people who have made a video on it.

Villeneuve's Dune basically makes Star Wars obsolete. Someone finally worked out how to adapt the first epic science-fantasy perfectly. George Lucas created a dumbed down Dune for the heroic fantasy types.

I'm gonna go out on a limb & assume "space folders" is exactly what it sounds like. Since it's impossible to move faster than the speed of light, you fold the fabric of space & move along that. Meaning the ship never has to actually move faster than light in order to cover FTL distances. How close am I?

I think some lore I would recommend personally would be just a few of my favorites, I mostly tend to really get into the lore of survival horror game franchises but there's a few other series I really like. Atm I'm really getting into Resident Evil lore and it is WILD. It goes to some crazy places. I'm also a huge fan of Dead Space lore. Every game there including animated films and books are packed with some really cool stuff. For other games outside of the survival horror genre tho I recommend Gears of War, it goes pretty in depth and has a shocking amount of lore throughout the whole franchise. I'm also rly into Borderlands lore but uh, the more recent games have kinda gone down a bit of a shitty route imo.
