Извини [izvini] - literally means "spare me from the guilt" so it's actually closer to excuse me, but Прости [prasti] (forgive) is used equally often and in the same situations. "Прости (меня) пожалуйста!" and "Извини (меня) пожалуйста!" both mean "Please forgive me!". You can skip the word "меня" if you're talking about yourself, it's kinda obvious. Сорян [saryan] - is mostly used jokingly, when you didn't really hurt anyone, it is not considered as a serious word, more like "oopsie", sometimes these are even used together - упс, сорян!
@alexlex7034

"Упс, сорян" (от sorry в английском) это уже сленг всё же. В реалии, не в интернете, далеко не со всеми это можно применить.
@bshthrasher
@bshthrasher 6 ай бұрын
@@alexlex7034, it's not just slang, this word is purposefully slangish to be used only in specific situations. From my explanation it should be obvious that it's not used as a normal sorry word. But I also made another comment under this video explaining the origin of it. It derives from such very informal words like Колян [kolyan] (version of the name Nikolai) and братан [bratan] (bro). Basically, if there's a situation where you wouldn't use the word bro, you shouldn't use soryan as well.

Мне кажется, что "извини" может быть ближе к excuse me, а forgive me к "прости меня".. но тут еще контекст и интонация важны.. можно так "извини" сказать, что это будет значить "да пошел ты" )

Мне очень сорян, но вот я помню, как еще в школе, учительница строго утверждала, что форма "я извиняюсь" является некорректной. Это все равно, что сказать "я извиняю сам себя" (I forgive myself), в то время как извинений обычно просят у другого человека.

why is сорян more "russified"? is it easier to say than сори, does it flow better or something? I'm curious. also as a native English speaker I think it's cool that our words are being used as slang loan words. :P

Soryan. Slang form which looks similar to changed (guy style) russian male names Kolyan, Olegan, Andryushan also Stepan,Ivan, also it looks as any form of any armenian second name. It's both convenient and closer for russian ears than sorry and used by the same young type of people..
@bshthrasher
@bshthrasher 6 ай бұрын
Because Сори is just a copy of the original sounds but a bit simplified, while Сорян is the version that is made ridiculously slangish and informal on purpose. There's a name Nikolai in Russia, so the most formal version is for example Nikolai Ivanovich (name and patronimic), less formal Nikolai for equals but not very familiar people, informal Kolya [Коля] for friends, family and coworkers, and lastly the most informal for true bros is Kolyan [Колян]. Kolya is the kind / soft version, so when you add the N in the end you make it sound more masculine. And this is how сорян was formed. Сори is just a sorry word in different languange, like French пардон (pardon) which is also used among aducated people here. But сорян is something like "oops lol", it is used to convert a mistake into a joke kinda.

It does actually mean excuse me, but unlike in English, in Russian it is used in the same situations and just as frequently as простите. The only exception is when you are seriously guilty, that's when извини(те) kinda loses its relevance and it's better to use прости(те) to ask for forgiveness.

Yes, "извини" ( or "извините") can be used in different situations. To ask for forgiveness for something, and, for example, interrupt a conversation, or approach a stranger to start a conversation.
