(1463) Review: Lishi KW1 2-in-1 Pick & Decoder

Video 1463 is PROOF that it is time to replace that old Kwikset KW1 lockset! The new Lishi KW1 2-in-1 Pick & decoder allows an UNSKILLED user to quickly pick open Kwiksets, even if the lock contains security pins. These tools represent a clear and present danger to anyone depending on a Kwikset lock for their security.

I met Mr Li, in Manchester England at a Locksmith show. However he couldn't get his interpreter into the UK. Even members of the local Chinese community couldn't understand his heavily accented language. However his picking techniques said a thousand words. In the UK there is absolutely no regulation on tools. However in Ireland, Locksmithing is completely regulated. Go figure.

I kind of have the inside scoop, I was talking to my contact... A brief history, I'm a long-term Locksmith, and was one of the 1st in this country to have one of these picks. The 5 and 6 pin Schlage, and 6 pin Kwikset should be out by mid-April. Having said that, I was told a Kwikset Smart Key pick is coming out, (I only know that, he didn't elaborate) and some sort of Yale Y1 keyway is coming down the pipe. There's a big problem though, we can ask for all the picks in the world, and I'M VERY EXCITED that these pin-tumbler picks are coming out! But they're nearing production capacity, so chances of a Medeco pick coming out.... Not likely Bill. Personally, I'd like to see Corbin/Russwin, Sargent, among others.. It's kick-ass, and heartbreaking all at the same time.

I wasn't expecting it when I first heard, Lishi 2-in-1 pin tumbler picks coming out for; KW1, SC1, SC4 . Mixed emotions. Sounds practical on one hand, and on the other I just don't know. Able to pick and decode a lock without tearing it apart... But also, being able to pick and decode a lock... without breaking it down and tearing it apart. ---- It's neat, I will give it that. I'm actually surprised that it didn't come sooner. I kind of want a set in my bag, just because... They could be useful in the right circumstances.

I use the 2 in 1 and 3 in 1 car picks every day, I make the mechanical keys once picked, then program the transponder/remote/smart after that. I recently make a key for a vehicle on the Airside of Manchester Airport..... Security there is amazing, beats Military, Prison etc. It took 2 hours to get through security, 15 mins to make a full remote key for the vehicle and 20 seconds to leave......

I think the point of that circular cutout is so you can put the handle in it so it doesn't flop about.
@_0x00
@_0x00 5 жыл бұрын
I am another Lishi owner. The handle won't travel that far into the pick. If you take a look at the tip of the blade (key portion), there is a solid stop to prevent the more delicate pick from over-extending into the keyway. This protects the pick, which can be easily damaged if mistreated. Some Lishi models are prone to getting hung up on the slots cut into the blade if the pick gets even slightly bent.

No the point of the hole is for flex. Notice the slot going down the tensioner. They likely pry it apart a bit and clip it on the circle part.

If the hole would be for that , the pick tip would be way front of the key tip . That tensioning part should be a bit longer and the hole behind the company logo , then it could work .

Very usefull for locksmiths but to control this is what we were told in 1970 and 1980 about normal lock picks . If you need a differant one for every keyway thats alot of tools a criminal would need to purchase . And selected locks is not a criminals first thought its a hammer screwdriver or bolt cropper . .locks arnt picked in 98% of crime cases bill . We have been fighting the establishment for over three centuerys for people today to have a sport or hobby in picking . Most criminals cant be bothered to learn to pick good locks

I remember when I bought the ultimate adversary practice kit I measured the pins, and although it was a Schlage keyway, I was dismayed to find that the driver pins were not standard Schlage sizes. So I could not use the driver pins with the included key, it came with it's own properly sized driver pins. Would doing something similar here mess with the decoding, using non standard sized driver pins? I know, it is worrying over stopping someone from copying the key when they already have gained access, just a thought experiment for me.

This tool is great. If you have a good code machine you can have a 5 pin lock picked and have a functioning key cut in less than two minutes. Spool pins will slow that down a little bit. I have put mine in two SmartKey locks and have picked both of them. They take much longer to figure out since you are essentially hunting for gates instead of a gap between pins. I think both of these locks were manufactured prior to KwikSet's current version, so there is more testing to be done. FYI- If you get a SmartKey picked, it does decode.
@advantagephc
@advantagephc 5 жыл бұрын
Well, switched the key on one of the locks and I can't pick it. Going to keep playing with it. I've had it in several copy cats and also in Weisers and it works good. The Weiser would be a bit of a guessing game to decode.

I just ordered the generic ss01 and 02 and thought they were for any straight and s curved lock but found out they're for Yale or schlage but they were about 20 each shipped and only difference i can tell isine don't have a picture of a Chinese guy on em and the arm going to the tip of the pick that pushes the tumblers isn't as thick. I got in one of of my keickset locks with one of mine and it wouldn't pick the keickset but it did push some tumblers no problem. I ordered the generic kw5 since you can use it on 4 and 5 pin locks and it was $31 shipped and should be here in a few weeks to try out.

( look at the small thing behind it you move to pick pins)It was cold in the garage, I had gloves on. The little slider, the part you manipulate, got pulled out with the tensioner and broke. No warning, no bending, just broke. It is built so flimsy that I didn't even feel it break. But it snapped in two pieces right where it comes out of the tunnel thing. Right in front numeral 2. (sorry about amateur terms) They don't have replacement parts for the M1 at time of this writing. So I'm just SOL...
