That should do the trick pretty well. If you really want to get it right you can also buy the Power Commander Auto Tune Module to get the Fuel air mixture just right!

I was just reading about the Auto literally 30 seconds ago, I had seen it before and I am not superstitious, but that is very weird! I will do it, thanks a ton!

Now... just a video on how to install the PC as I do not trust my mechanic at the dealer... at all. One job too many where my bike was not put back together the right way. His life is not on the line. I know you are not too busy, lol!

If you leave it without an electronics upgrade the bike will function fine but if you are looking for the absolute peak performance with your motorcycle it is a good idea to add some type of electronic tuning aid. Thanks for watching!

Graves has made several changes to the R1 system since this video was shot. You can run without the O2 sensors without any issue. The system is supposed to flow better without the sensors installed. - Van

You can run the Graves tune for a 3/4 system with your Yosh for sure. Bike will run amazing. - Van

If you are looking to eliminate the Ex/up code you can always just purchase a Skutrnet Servo Eliminator as well!

ok so to confirm, Patty was right? Just eliminate the two sensors that used to go into the Y-pipe with the ECU flash while you are eliminating the Ex/up code? I have the same Y-pipe with no sensor ports up front. Cheers.

Kyle Abron Full exhaust includes the headers.. its from the header all the way back the exhaust canister. mid pipe is what you just saw in this video.

This video shows the first generation of this system, Graves has since updated this to eliminate the stock sensors to make the system flow better. We have a note in product listing on the site covering this. You need to do a FlashTune to the bike which does not use the info from the sensors. Sportbike Track Gear Hi Brian. With the newer generation Y pipe are you completely unplugging and doing away with the O2 sensors? If so is there some sort of dummy plug to plug into the factory harness where the O2 sensors used to plug in to prevent codes and/or help with moisture being an issue if you happened to get caught in the rain so the factory plug won’t get wet from being unplugged and exposed to the elements?

What did you end up doing with the O2 sensors?

Brett Magallano I removed them completely from the bike. Easy snap on connectors to take off but I took the tank off to make it easy.

Dante Klein The light will only come on if you eliminate the exhaust servo. End of the day the servo eliminators are not very expensive and they allow for removal of the servo, cables and valve. - Van

Dante Klein The servo sits in the stock can - You can quite easily remove the cat box/mid pipe install and keep it. BE WARNED - you WILL need to have it tuned (either ECU flash or Fuel module) as the bike runs lean without it, you will hurt your engine. I have a 2012 R6

JustplainZero I don't think it's possible to damage the engine by installing a midpipe and not getting tuned, it's a myth. Sure, without a tune the throttle will be twitchy and the power might surge a little, but it'll never get anywhere lean enough to damage the engine. Under 30% throttle under 9000rpm the ECU uses the stock o2 sensor to keep the AFR around 14.2 reguardless if you've installed a midpipe or not. Above 30% throttle and above 9000 the "performance" map in the ECU is sufficiently rich enough to prevent engine damage. My 08 R6 I ran with midpipe + stock muffler + bmc race filter (and then Yosh RS3 full system) for 42,000km's (26,000mi) before getting flashed and tuned (flash-tune + PCV with autotune). Never any problems.

R-AIK Put it on and ride it, you should not have an issue as I have not. Just got back from the track, stock map and zero issues. This bike is rich from the factory, most often custom maps remove fuel rather than add it. To get the most performance out of the bike you will need to make some change to the fuel control system at some point. I will be doing a video this week showing how to flash the stock ecu which is one of the available options. BTW thank you for your business! - Van

Sportbike Track Gear I installed the system and the bike has a pretty rough idle, and tends to shut down every now and then at stop and go low throttle. I already have the PCV, is there anything you can suggest. I spoke with Graves and they said that they have sent the system to dynojet, and dynojet says they have the exhaust but no bike to put it on.

R-AIK I have not yet installed any type of fuel controller nor have I flashed the ecu and the bike runs fine on both the street and the race track. Do you have the PCV installed now? Did you break it loose while the pipe was still on the bike? If so try heating it a little with a torch if you have one. If no torch use some penetrating spray and let it sit for a while then go after it again. I have seen the threads damaged from the factory a few times over the years so it is possible you may need to get a new sensor. - Brian Van

It is not a bad idea to tune it. If you use the Flash Tune you do not need the servo eliminator. www.sportbiketrackgear.com/flashtune-auto-blip-clutchless-downshift-kit-yamaha-yzf-r1-15-17/ You could start by installing the exhaust and riding the bike. If you are happy then leave it. If you want to dial in in more then do a flash tune. - Van

Stefano Adragna I did this to illustrate two different methods of installing the exhaust. Some might argue that twisting the harness is a bad idea even though it is harmless. - Van

+Mario Carcamo To fix that the easiest way is to first install one of our block-off plate kits. Next I would purchase a fuel control unit such as a Bazzaz or Power-Commander. This will help correct the fuel/ air mixture in the exhaust system that causes the popping.

It probably improved it a bit, but the only way to eliminate it is by using a Fuel Control Unit or have the ECU re-mapped.

That is true, however you are "Da Man" from STG, so any an all dealers will hook you up. Most squids who buy this bike will need to know that work like this will most likely void the warranty. I'm still thinking of a bike to replace my 2012 S1000RR, which I recently Sold. Great series of How to's...though,, Bravo !!

HEKTIC458 The only recall I see is for the R1M, not the standard R1. It is a recall for the Ohlins Suspension which also affects the Honda CBR1000RR SP. Not really a big deal and out of Yamaha's direct control. Ohlins is a solid company and they will make it right for the R1M owners. - Van

gmund317 If the canister was smaller you would lose power and the goal with a system like this is to make gains. If you want the looks of the Moto1 just do the slip on and save some money. End of the day this bike has more power than most would ever need completely stock. - Van

+Sportbike Track Gear You cant use the moto1 with the graves mid pipe. Different pipe diameter. If you are set on replacing the mid pipe then M4 makes 2 versions that will fit the moto1 slip on to the mid pipe. However, beware that you WILL NEED ear plugs and if you take it to a track that has a decibel limit you will not be allowed to ride. Luckily we dont have that here in wisconsin.
