The 16“ MBP 2019 is simply the most stylish laptop (besides the 13“ MBP 2020) Apple ever made. No notch, no odd design choices…just stylish and practical. Wish we had that design today with maybe smaller bezels and the M1 / M2 series inside 😟
@aculturedman.9172
@aculturedman.9172 9 ай бұрын
Can’t really say practical as its biggest issue is overheating due to how thin it was (plus the pretty questionable cooling system for the higher end intel chips) and its lack of ports.

Something about that design I love too, but overall would rather the build of the newer pros. The square design is special, feels newer, and space is minimal because of the notch (even though it’s fatter, because, well, it has to be).

So six months ago I finally moved on from my 2015 15 inch MacBook Pro and purchased a 2019 15 inch MacBook Pro. I knew that new M2 15 inch was coming out but got a deal for the 2019 2.4 ghz i9 32gb ram 1TB SSD Vega 20 graphics for only $550! I know the M2 15 inch is a little better in almost every way, but the deal was too good to pass up and this laptop really is amazing. I basically got what I feel is comparable to a fully loaded M2 MacBook Air 15 for like a quarter of the price.

i went from a 16 inch i9 64gb ram with the highest AMD Radeon Pro 5600M with 8GB of HBM2 memory to a M1 MAX 32gb 16 inch. And honsetly, the performance day to day was about the same. The i9 with 64gb of ram handled my motion graphics and video edit work flow with no problem. Other than high CPU temps when the fans were on blast, it was really quite on par with the m1 max 32gb in my work case. Now on my m1 Max i often get low ram warnings. which i never got on my intel. But it goes without saying that the m1 max is still the better overal computer. But the 2019 top spec 16 inch is still not a bad computer at all.

But for just web browsing and light work stuff it's perfectly fine, even though it won't let me upgrade the OS. Given the reliability of macs and most people not needing a ton of power I can definitely see why they would opt for a refurubed one that's $400 less than a new one.

You can run bootcamp on this machine so that's a nice feature to have. Though as apple transitions to apple silicon support for this will drop sooner than an apple silicon machine. Apps for now are universal but will be apple silicon only. though on the plus side this is easier to upgrade to get the performance closer to the Mac and still be cheaper. You can swap out the SSD for pretty cheap vs if you have the base air you're stuck with that ssd.

I just ordered a 2019 16" MBP, for two reasons: 1. I want to connect two external displays, so for Apple silicon, I'd have to order at least an M1 Pro (50% more expensive refurbished), and 2. I want to run x86 VMs. I know it's kind of possible with UTM/QEMU, but it would be very sluggish. And I might want to dual-boot into something different than macOS, which is not possible at all on Apple silicon. But because I still want to run macOS as my primary OS, I ordered pretty much the best Intel MacBook Pro I could get, which was still a lot cheaper than any Apple silicon MacBook Pro with a comparable RAM/HDD config. But I have to admit that I envy the efficiency and power of the Apple chips. And things like the function keys and MagSafe.

I have the M1 Pro MacBook Pro 16 and I love it for a lot of reasons. One of the really big reasons is that it doesn't get hot or even warm when using it casually. In fact the fans don't even run. I use slower chargers to keep it cool, even when charging. The 140 Watt brick charges it really fast but it gets the laptop warm. It is hard to go back to Intel laptops if you use your laptop on your lap a lot. I have charging blocks at 65 watts, 30 watts, 2 x 20 watts and a power strip with an 18 watt USB-C charger. I take either the 30 or 65 with me when traveling depending on how much I need to charge on my trip. These are far smaller and lighter than the Apple brick. I would love to have an Air 15 but it's hard to justify with also having an M1 Pro MacBook Pro 16. There are times when I don't need the 16 where the 15 would be enough and there are times when I could use the 15 and a 16 for the additional screen. I would not consider an Intel MacBook at all though I will still buy a 27 inch iMac because the prices are still so good. One reason for the Intel, of course, is gaming.

My 2019 Mac book pro screen broke, I am left with option of replacing the screen for around $800 or getting the Mac book air 15". What do you think is the better option. I am considering keeping my Mac book pro and using as "desktop" hooked up to external screens and using the Mac book air on the go. What are your thoughts here? The Mac book air 15" I was looking at is 8gb if get it, should I get 16gb? Looking for advice.

I will get the 15 inch just because I don’t need power intensive apps and my workflow is fairly consistent unlike other peoples. Also I wonder how much money the pro would cost if it was brand-new from Apple right now

I am still living in the Intel world with my 2019 13” MBPro which is doing fine with my everyday tasks. However, I just test drove my adult-daughter’s base model M2 MBAir and that machine is buttery smooth and has more than enough ceiling to do an occasional video edit Time to save up for a new Mac!

@@CassandraLang123 They are not. The 16 inch speakers are better but the 15 inches are not terrible either. The quality is just slightly less but it’s nowhere near as bad as the 13 inch MBA speakers. I hope that helps :)

I'm using a 2018 macbook pro. Performance wise, i have no issues, but you cant beat the battery life of these M series products from Apple. That alone is a reason to update if you have the resources.

So you are testing the weakest of the GPU options on the 16" MBP 2019, as there was also the 5500M and the 5600M. Regardless it is impressive that the M2 beat the AMD in graphics but I'm not sure the same would hold for gaming and that was not directly tested.

"...and it works perfectly fine." I have to use one of these intel macs as my daily-driver for company-related work. I wish every minute that I was on my personal M1 Pro instead. Boot up time is measured in epochs and it's just plain sluggish in everything that requires any swap.

The 15” MBA is better in almost every aspect and while it’s more expensive, at least it’s future-proof and the 2019 will be out of date in 2-3 years. Better to invest now rather than pay more later when you’re stuck with an older system

Probably VM’s, or bootcamp. lower cost to “get a mac” for people where latest performance isn’t needed. Other specific hardware/drivers/software that don’t (yet) support Apple Silicon. Multiple monitor support, more ports.

I've been using the 16" i9 intel macbook pro 2019 since release and it's been great. It is nice to be able to run windows through boot camp, which you cannot do on the M1/M2 macbooks. My gripe with it is that under any medium to high load, the battery drains in an hour or two, which means you almost always plugged in. It also generates an absolute ton of heat, to the point where it will heat up my entire room I want to sell it and buy a 15" mba now... The long battery life and low power usage just seems so tempting.

I just upgraded from the Intel 16 to the M3 Max 16 inch. It's currently in the babying phase since I've only had it for a few weeks. I carry my Intel around the house when my iPad is charging. The thermals on that old Intel machine is nuts. I don't remember it ever getting that hot when it was new. It makes me wonder if it is running harder because of newer macOS updates are more optimized for the M-series?
