This is such a beautiful ‘300’! I have never seen a Silver Edition, but quite a few ‘300’s off & on throughout my life. What’s interesting is that I didn’t know that MOPAR used that vinyl roof form until the early 1970’s. I had the same type vinyl roof on my ‘73 Charger SE Brougham. I will always say that MOPAR back in the day was original in their designs and not afraid to do their own thing. Thanks Lou & Chuck for a great Tuesday morning treat!

I love exner mopars too, i own a couple of old imperials from this general era, this is the ONLY ONE of these i have seen, that was TOO COOL, if you study exners design, that basic design was supposed to be an imperial, chrysler said no, and the design was used on the car pictured, 2 YEARS LATER, and my imperial outside is the car produced instead

Once again Lou Chrysler was at their best with some of those amazing rides back then it's a shame the cars they produce today doesn't have the same class, elegance, profile, sofistication & styling those rides once had back then. Ivan J.

Very good Lou. Beautiful car. I'd didn't know about the Silver Edition. This is the most beautiful '64 Chrysler I've ever seen. Chuck is a good man in recognizing and sharing the importance of passing on the world of cars to young people, and even a little kid. There's some guys that don't won't chance someone's breath touching their car, but Chuck here had actually invited a little kid to sit in it and look around. That's wonderful. My first car was a '64 Chrysler New Yorker sedan. Like a lot of youths in the early 70's I wanted a VW Beetle, but my Dad wanted to me to be in something big and safe for my first car. I was still fifteen when my Dad took me car shopping. The first place we'd gone to was the local Pontiac dealership, as they were advertising a sale. I remember one long row of about twenty used cars. One of them I loved. A dark green '66 Mustang with a black interior and a three-speed manual. A floor shifter was still a big deal in the early seventies because usually heavy-duty trucks had those. And most cars with a manual had a column shifter, so having a floor shifter in a car sort of made it like a race car. The white paint on the Mustang windshield stated $700. Dad said it was too expensive. He guided me further down the line of cars and pointed out this big Chrysler. And he said, this is what I want you to have for a first car, a big safe car. The white paint on the windshield stated $225. This big Chrysler didn't have any appeal at all to me, and even the boring blue paint was all dull. We got inside a looked around and Dad started pointing out features it had, with one being the seating like the car in this video. He was showing me how nice a pull-down center arm rest was. He lifted up the arm rest and beneath it was a pair of the tiniest little old lady gloves, that looked like they'd been beneath the arm rest for years. I remember disappointingly exclaiming "Daaaad". I didn't want an old lady car. I wanted that Mustang. The Chrysler had 60,000 miles on it and Dad said that was good adding that Chrysler made a real good car. We got out and Dad asked a salesman for the keys. Dad showed me under the hood. It had a the 413 engine. I think Dad was impressed with that too. A big durable engine. And heavy on gas so I probably drive it slow, and stay near home. Dad was doing some under-hood checks before a test drivethat never happened. The engine overheated spilling a lot of rusty water onto the parking lot. I let out another one of those "Daaaad". Followed by, Dad I don't want this car. Then Dad really shocked me. He said that overheating was good thing. Huh? Why? Dad said that it meant they might lower the price. Adding that it probably just needs a flush and a new thermostat. Dad had gone indoors to talk to the salesman. I stayed outside and looked and every single other used car in the row. I was hoping to find something else that Dad could afford, that wasn't an old lady car. Dad came out of the dealership beaming. I knew something happened. Yep. He bought it. For $125. Well, at least Dad was happy. I had a love-hate relationship with the Chrysler for the couple of years that I had it. By and large it was good car and held up well. During the last year that I had it, the brakes had failed twice for different reasons. I didn't know anything about cars at that age. Then one afternoon my four year old brother and I were on our way to the supermarket for Mom. I stepped on the brakes and the pedal went to the floor. The car went right through a busy intersection and somehow at that moment there wasn't any traffic. Thank God. That was the third brake failure. I was really scared because my little brother was with me. Dad came and got us and I told him I wasn't driving that car anymore and send it to the junk yard. He put up a little stink with me, but I think the thought of my little brother crossed his mind. He did call the junk yard to come and get. I never saw that car again, and I've never missed it.

I came across a '64 300 K in silver in Phoenix back in the early '90's. This HAD to be the most loaded 300K I had ever seen. It even had the very rare dual A/C and power EVERYTHING. It was a little faded from the Arizona sun and I could never get ahold of the owner so I don't know what ever happened to it. This is one beautiful 300. Glad it ended up with someone who will continue to take care of it.

That white stripe painted within that chrome strip remarkably accents that silver paint and matches the white walls. Back then, Chrysler didn't count beans on chrome trim. Nice round guages. It must be a pleasure to own that car. Even, if nobody were to thumb-up or notice it

I love the side trim treatment also. The insert is stamped aluminum, that really makes this 300 pop! The 300-K Letter Cars only had narrow dual pin stripes running down the sides at the upper crease, and didn’t have this trim.

Some of the cars you showcase, like this amazing 300 were never sold in Canada. Common practice back in the day to limit Canadian Dealerships to most, but not all of what was for sale in the US. That makes this channel so much fun...seeing a 1964 classic like this for the first time. Keep diggin' em up Lou..you've perfected CAR-ASMR!

"Stomp on it. It stomps back. 383 cubic inches of V-8 torque flattens you snug in the seat. Move into a tight corner, you feel two tons of Chrysler stick like a leech." I just love these old descriptions. A promo done right. These days car promo materials also mention inches, but touchscreen size inches... This was truly a special era we're never getting back. Thanks god, that I own a classic American car, so even me - a European guy can taste what it was like to just cruise around in one of these old beauties full of character. That petrol green windscreen tint throws a nice colored shade onto the seats. It almost looks like it's on purpose as it fits perfectly with the silver. The whole car doesn't have any of the crazy big '50s fins or other decorations, but it's sleek lines grab my attention for sure. It's like if it has perfect shape. Nothing really stands out, nothing is missing but as a package it's pure elegance on wheels 👌. Happy for you Chuck ✨

Hi, Lou! Chuck's 300 is a unique and different head turner all right! It's great that a car like this can get the little ones so interested! Sometimes what glitters is silver! Absolutely beautiful car. Another Chrysler that was a special edition Chrysler was the New Yorkwr Salon. It was priced right up in the Imperial price range and came with every option Chrysler had in the book including factory air conditioning and an AM/FM radio. It is a stunning sight to see and has a vinyl top like the one in the video. I believe it was only available as a four door hardtop hut it looks like rolling art. The interior is extremely plush as well. If you have never seen one just look it up. It is definitely worth looking into.

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING ENTIRELY DIFFERENT! I have to say I am unfamiliar with the "downsized" Chrysler products from that time frame. The more I see them, the more I like them. Chrysler was really cutting edge with the design, engineering, and European flair of these cars! Very sophisticated in it's design. It's a Chrysler alright, but wearing an Italian sportcoat! Thanks Lou and thank you to the owner of this beautiful example!

Chrysler was famous for having Spring Special editions from the late 50s through the early 70s, as special optioned cars across all 3 makes. They tried to revive this in the mid to late 80s but the marketing didn't catch on, and the cars were just reduced to full fledged RPO packages, not limited editions. The owner was smart to have the car repainted. Back in the day, silver metallic paint was extremely hard to get to stick and all of the manufacturers that offered such a color, used black primer instead of grey. Over time, the silver paint would fade and you would get the black primer bleeding through. Now we have much better paints and processes. Nice car, very rare!

What a dude and what a car. I have a ‘63 Dodge Custom 880 which shares the rear bumper of this as its front bumper and was also the front bumper of the ‘63 Chrysler. Last year of the wrap windshield. I think the dash might still be electroluminescent like the dome predecessor, Chrysler nailed dash styling.

When I was a sophomore in high school I worked for a full-service gas station (most of them were full-service!). I will always remember that many of the cars had the gas cap in the back under the license plate. That was too common. And I thought nothing of a 1964 300 if it came into the station!

@@loucostabile thanks Lou unfortunately I haven't driven since April of '06 because I'm now 49 years old and a stroke and cardiac arrest survivor and use a cane for balance when I'm outside my appartment building and only use a service called darts which is a taxi service here in Hamilton Ontario Canada for people with disabilitys, was born with a whole in my heart. I grew up with the older cars, if where have a choice to own a car again it would be a tie between the '64 and a half ford mustang or a late 70's Pontiac Trans am just like the car from Smokey and the bandit LoL. Be safe and have a good evening sir. I've already double vaccinated.

@@loucostabile I've been a subscriber for some while, and enjoy every episode. I was 'coming of car age' in the 1950's-1960's and have many memories of the wonderful cars of that era. Also, the new models were behind showroom windows covered with brown paper until 'the date' when the covers came off. Not like now when it's difficult to determine what a car is much less the year.

My uncle had a ‘63 300 convertible. That big old tank could really move. I remember my adult cousin driving it. I was with her and she stopped at a gas station and the attendant (remember those) told her that she was 3 quarts low on oil. She told the guy to add 1 quart because she always drove it around 2 quarts low! She was a teacher. No wonder our country is in the shape it’s in.

Chrysler had some great designs in the 60s. This is a very trim, handsome looking car, compared with the garish style of the 50's, and almost looks European (similar to the Valiant, Saratoga, etc of the early 60s). The following generation of the mid to late 60's seemed to get longer yet also offered clean, elegant styling. Beautiful car, and the owner seems a true gentleman.

The owner mentioned the 64 Chrysler 300 Silver Special he saw in the Survivor's Tent at Chryslers at Carlisle. I personally knew the man who owned that car. He has since passed. His car had the original paint - it had never been repainted. He & his wife went to Chryslers at Carlisle every year. His car had all of the options. Had air conditioning on his car. The only option the car did not have, which I see this also does not have, was the square steering wheel. If this was filmed on July 9th of this year, this was obviously at Chryslers at Carlisle this year.

Good observation, but - this great Silver Edition has the optional tilt steering column - a GM sourced mechanism that required a round steering wheel. The ‘square’ wheel was standard issue on non-tilt steering column Chryslers.

The last of the Exner designs. The funny thing is, what the owner stated is so true: there are more letter series on the road than non-letter series. Collectors bought up the last of the cross ram, letter series, cars. When I was in college, I found one on a lot, and as hard as I tried, I couldn't convince my parents to allow me to withdraw money from my college fund to buy it! What were they thinking?! A 300K with ram induction for the cost of 1/2 a semester!!!! Only $3K, in 1988!!! Totally worth it! The 383's were pulled out and swapped into the detuned 70's cars or those 383's were driven into the ground, as they were a work horse big block of it's time: produced from the late 50's clear into the early 70's. But, Exner did design rust buckets so most of his cars disintegrated before their owner's eyes. That and the early 60's Chryslers had front suspension issues. Or, lets face it, back in the 70's and 80's, most of our old cars were crushed and sent to Japan or Taiwan to be reincarnated into a Subaru or a few thousand Chop-o-Matics, Pocket Fisherman, or some other Ronco product.... So sad.

@@noelhastalis6785 He restyled Exner's 62 design, by horizontally positioning the headlights, is all. The body, style, concept, was Exner's and he despised Chrysler for eliminating fins. This car was said to be a middle finger to Chrysler management, however, Buick also had similar competing designs of the late 50's and first two years of the 60's. I still believe Exner's best work was at Studebaker but I love the 59-64 Imperials and high performance, letter series, wedge motored, 300's.
