I purchased this 1967 Mercury Cougar 'sight unseen' (sort of) from my Step Father-in Law several months ago and he stored it for me until now. I guess it's not really 'sight unseen'... because I had seen it in-person a couple times on previous family trips, but I had never driven it and never spent any time under the hood until now.
He said it didn't run at all when he bought it 6 years ago as it had been sitting 'for a very long time'. He had previously attempted to drive it to work a few times, but never made it there successfully due to fuel system issues and problems with overheating. He had done some work on it and had already put in a new gas tank and ran a soft fuel line along with a new Edelbrock Intake and 650 Carburetor.
He had also worked on a few of the lights and interior details along with putting on Long Tube headers and a nice dual exhaust system along with a Pertronix Electronic Ignition upgrade. He also replaced the rear shocks in an attempt to help correct the sagging leaf springs.
Because of it's problems with overheating he had already purchased a new water pump and thermostat, but he hadn't installed it yet.
Our original plan was to tow it home, especially since he said it was in no shape to drive on the road yet...but I thought we might as well give it a try and see how far we could get.
I only had 2 days to attempt to get it roadworthy and travel 1300 miles from Washington State down to Southern California.
I hope you like this video, as it's quite a bit different than most of my usual KZfaq videos.
Please let me know if you'd like to see more videos like this or if you'd like to see more videos of this car.
*Update* I have since learned that the A/C was not factory in this car as I mentioned in the video, but that it was dealer installed.
Thanks for watching!
