Goodyear Blue Streaks existed since mid 1960's, I'm sure they used those "off road use only" on their Kelsey Hayes or whatever brake rotors they were running.

Saw a video of the wing car test at Daytona. It was so scary on the high bank crushing the tire and trying to run it off the wheel. Some drivers packed up and went home. Said no thanks

thats funny the top speed of the stock daytona was 120 at best.

@@davidthayer6969 That's funny as well... a Hemi Daytona could easily push 150 with 3.54 Dana or 3.55 Chrysler rear. Maybe post your comments where someone who has owned one of these cars won't see it.

My mom had that car in green and she gave it to me in my 30"s I loved that car and it was fast and smooth, when I was in my 20"s she owned the car and I've had a lot of girls in that car yes the good old days when you knew how to pull it out.

The Charger was a Peugot & VW powered Four Banger - remember that? The L platform Shelby's? I'll take today's well - the 10+ year old Daimler platform Charger etc uses today over those weird FWD "Chargers". And you're right about they couldn't give the Superbird/Daytonas away. As a kid in '71 I had a '68 Coronet 500 HT really nice B Body - eventually sold it to a buddy for 5 bills and added my own 5 bills to walk into a New London CT Mopar dealer and get my brand new '74 'Cuda $4k with that $1k down. Cross the Thames river where Mystic is there was a tiny Plymouth dealer that still had a beige with black vinyl roof Superbird they couldn't sell or maybe it was a year before I pulled the trigger on a new car but I remember thinking BEIGE???? BLACK VINYL ROOF? (All Superbirds had vinyl roofs to cover the bad welds) BIG WING?? SNOUT? And I was a FAN of Mopars as a kid. It was a 440 not a Hemi which also played into the "there's NOTHING good about this car" but I thought about it for a millisecond. Oddly I miss the Coronet 500 coupe more than the E Body 'Cuda 360 - and a Coronet 500 of '68 is more rare to boot. Peace! 🚗

@@cuda426hemi Great Story! My best friend's Brother bought 70 Cuda' with 440 4 barrel with a pistol grip and 3.91. Dark Green, Black vinyl top. Aluminum slots on N -50's. Looked like a model car. My buddy and me were 15. We would take turns riding in the passenger seat. Just so we could watch him power shift that pistol grip shifter. That car would sit you back in those high back bucket seat. Off the line. From first to second. It would also chirp the tires during shifting. Two weeks later he rolled it after hitting a cement corner post. He took that insurance money and bought a Super Bee 383 4 barrel. Bench seat and a high shifter to clear the Bench seat. Green also with a Bumble stripe. Black top. It later Back fired threw the carb and burnt to a crisp. That was the end of Muscle cars for his brother. Insurance became to high and no company would take him. Shawn

I almost bought a 70 Cyclone back in the 80s, but after looking at the car, I passed because the guy had painted it in some crazy rainbow metallic color. I couldn't afford to paint it at the time being a young kid with little patience and cash, so I got a 66 Belvedere instead.

💯%. When I was a kid our local Dodge dealer had a red Daytona. He had it on the lot for well over a year and couldn’t sell it. Gave my dad a sweet offer on the car. We took it out for a test drive. My dad made the mistake of showing it to my mother. That car is ugly, take it back. My dad learned that day that it was better to ask for forgiveness after doing what he really wanted to do.
