DRay, you are the man. These XL600R videos are really important to me. I love watchin em, and I think you have a lot to offer. Your easy going way of explaining things makes it easy for to learn. Owning a used but well taken care of 1983 XL600R on a budget, these videos are a blessing as I really put the miles on this classic, bulletproof bike and need to keep it up myself. The manuals just don't have it all. Thank you so much, and please, please make more for this vintage! Thanks bro!

I really appreciate you uploading these videos. I have an 86 XL600R that's sitting in storage right now, hasn't started or ran since 2016. I've got a new stator and CDI waiting to be put in, it needs a fuel tank, I think I'm also gonna need a new battery and carb rebuild kit, and I don't doubt that I'll have to do most of what you listed in this video too. This is my first motorcycle and I'm working on it myself, and there ain't much out there in the way of video education on this specific bike, so thank you kindly for keeping these videos up. 🙏

You know it's funny, I learn alot by watching you here but the ironic thing is I also have an atc200 and an 86' xl600r. So I keep tuned in! Please do other videos on these two bikes. Thanks!

Got one in boxes. Needs more work than this one but it’s pretty complete. Interested in making a video series. Hadn’t thought about it before but it might be fun to work with you. I don’t know much about you but if you’re interested in a more ground up series I’ve got the guts of the machine, new piston, cylinder, head etc. I could do it myself but you’re already up and running and I like your content. Let me know if you’re interested.

I have a 1983 honda XR 500R I bought a little bit ago and it is in excellent shape. I took it out for the first time last week. I was having a little too much fun and dumped it on and put it on its back. No visual damage was done and I got it started right back up but after riding for a couple miles I noticed there was a oil leak and a good amount of oil wash bring off the engine. I killed the engine and look for the leak but could not locate it. I checked the oil level and it was okay just slightly below normal. After letting the bites it for a little bit it started it back up wrote it for a couple miles and there is absolutely no more oil leaking and still is not leaking today. Do you have any ideas of where the oil came from? for some reason it seem to be coming no we're from the engine but close to the air filter which seems odd

Hello D-Ray, I have the same Honda, I just made a capital rebuild of the engine end put it together today. It shows signs to want to start but it only kick back as mule, almost broke my leg. I believe it might be the sign of igniting the petrol in another place than TDC. Could you PM me some ideas to troubleshoot a little ?

Alfred Hammerstien I always pull the decomp lever, push the kicker thru a few times with the switch off, ease it up just past top dead center, switch on, choke if cold, no throttle, then kick er'!

+Alfred Hammerstien yesterday mine gave me a workout. but after all the stuff deray said has been tried. lean the bike way over flat till some fuel runs out of the carbs . then pick it up. dont touch the choke or throttle and ease to tdc then kick. it should fire in about 5 kicks if your lucky 25 if your not. i walked away from mine a couple times when i first got it . i havent let it win since. but yesterday i did about 10 minutes of kicking to get it going. i always wear a boot. i cant get the confidence it requires in tennis shoes. needless to say i was out of breath. and that led me to youtube and watching derays video on the carbs. i think mine need a good cleaning.

That dual carb setup is a pain in the ass. It's easier to set up a four cylinder bike.

Why? One has nothing to do with the other, unlike a multi-carb, multi cyl bike that has to be synched.

thanks for telling me to slide the battery box/air cleaner back.... it won't go on my 87, apparenlty they welded the frame around the air cleaner when it was built. thanks anyway, selling the lemon for parts. I am thinking about making a video on how to remove it for others to benefit from, however it may involve cold chisels, right angle grinders and hacksaws...
