Exercises in this video:
PROBLEM 1
A girl is riding her bike with a constant velocity of 10 m/s. How far has she gone after 7 seconds? Graph her motion both in x vs t, and v vs. t. Show her displacement on both graphs.
PROBLEM 2
A driver is driving at a constant velocity of 20 m/s. She steps on the gas at t=0 and accelerates to 30 m/s with constant acceleration. It took her 4 seconds to accelerate. How far did she go in those 4 seconds? Graph her motion on a v vs t graph and show the displacement on that graph.
PROBLEM 3
A biker, biking at 10 m/s hits a tree and comes to a complete stop. Assuming a helmet “crumple zone” of 10 cm, what is the minimum acceleration her head could undergo? How many “g”s is that?

Your 11 year old is wise. She sees beyond function to form. Adults say "1+1=2", but she might say "Yeah, but 2 is boring compared to 3.14" :D

@@1005corvuscorax Two may be boring, but is has the advantage of being right. Being right is important when you are building a bridge or firing a rocket, or doing lots of other things. Boring bridges are good; they stay up. Exciting bridges, such as the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, are not so good.

@@Luffy61C4 In calculus, when we integrate we have to add a +C at the end of every problem. Integration is the oposite of a derivative, and a derivative is the slope of a curve. So when you're integrating, you're trying to effectively find the original graph while only knowing the slope at any point. That means that the curves/shape of the graph, will be right, but you might not have the right y-value for any point, forgetting the +C would mean you're assuming a specific y-value which is wrong and bad.

And then she divides 10/0.05=500 hehe, but 10/0.02 is actually = 500, so the math was "right" at the end

I can't help but smile all throughout this! I discovered this channel when I was in eight grade and loved it ever since. from watching the 101 things to do with a physics degree, i decided to have one too and now I am on my second year in applied physics in college! The explanations are simple yet elegantly presented here that I felt that excitement when she finally puts it all together for the equation of motion like its my first time knowing it hahaha. After 11 years of formal education, out of which I studied Physics for 5, I just realised that you can find the time by calculating the average velocity from a graph. I mean I guess I knew you _could_ do it but I never realised how handy it is!! Really looking forward to the next class!

Wow, that's really impressive. I have always wondered how the equation of motion ws derived and I didn't really quite undetstand the explanations I was given. But it was all geometry lol. I'm actually mind blown. It was that simple. Also, you really make learning like it's a fun thing. I can ferl your passion and it's definitely contagious. I am feeling an urge to learn again. Thank you. Regrettably I only found out about your classical physics playlist after we have discussed kinematic equations in our school but I'm still glad I found it relatively early.

I'm a Physics Teacher and I have shown many of your wonderful videos in my own physics classroom. I always love your content. As a fellow teacher I feel like you are going too fast. This episode had so many different concepts, and it reminds me of the crash course pbs classes. I feel like it would have been much better if this episode could have been broken down to at least two episodes and you could have calmly gone through each topic. Also, you go on a lot of little tangents talking about crumple zone, time dilation, and other fascinating physics concepts, but I think this only confuses/distracts students from what they are supposed to learn. As a teacher I understand the struggles of trying to show how cool physics is and teach something tangible at the same time, but I think you would do a lot better focusing your material a bit more. I have a very small KZfaq channel and I totally understand your struggles, I hope I'm not discouraging, I just see how a few tweaks can lead to massive improvements :). Looking forward to the next episode!

Physics was my favourite subject at school. This reminds me how much I like playing with the equations of motion some 40 years ago! It lead me to studying mechanical engineering. I was then caught between manual calculations that I could understand and do and learning Fortran as we had to hand in our work done on the university's computer!

Dianna, So much to think about with this one episode. Physics the study of everything! I was in my office one day and a bird struck the window and fell to the ground. Outloud I wondered what force the poor bird experienced? A good friend Steve Kaye, came over and said we could figure that out? So he began to write a formula on my whiteboard and we figured it out. From that day on I realized that Physics was the most amazing science and very practical. Thank you for this first class. You are so amazing. I hope your injuries heal quickly.

One of the main reasons i loved physics when i was a high school student and made me switch from going to medical fields into going to engineering school was you really. Every time i build hardness to science because of our sad education system in egypt and the way we are treated as humans you never fail to make me a curious person again. Thank you for making this series! I’m not a physicist, but I love physics and have wanted to understand it better. I have always loved it when equations were broken down and explained. So much so that I had a lot of trouble when teachers switched to rote memorization without any explanation. They’d say, “Plug these numbers into this equation.” “Okay, but why?” “Because I said so.” 😳 Thank you for bringing back the fun of physics in a way that regular people can understand. Your enthusiasm is contagious. I love it! 😆

Nice to see you emphasising the wonderful tool that is Dimensional Analysis! I have used it since I was 9, but only learned it's a named, formalised thing in the first year of Uni! I may be turning into a Meteorologist from being a Physicist, but I still tutor Maths and Physics, from GCSE (15/16 year olds) to Professional Adults - and I the first thing I get them comfortable with is Dimensional Analysis. Funnily enough there's a bonus; I find it makes tutees who aren't confident in algebraic operations WAAAAYYY more comfortable! Best wishes from England :)

Dianna... as a former tutor way back in college- love your approach to show all of this. Good stuff. I also taught an engineering class in grad school- and if a student made a simple math error, but knew it, and said- just didn't have time to correct the math- I would give them full credit. But you managed to make two that canceled each other out, LOL. (others mentioned that)- just want people to not only think about the dimensional analysis that you did- but does the answer even make sense. Just like you did on the ping pong ball example.

I only learned about dimensional analysis in chemistry class in sophomore chemistry in college. The professor took the time because he was flabergasted that we did not learn it in high school. That was in 1970. That was the single most important thing I learned, other than my speech class, that has been of invaluable service to me for 50 years. Thank you Professor.

Ok this is the moment when I will dive into Physics. One of the way to love a particular discipline is through your teacher - so here we go! :) Good luck with the lessons Diana, it will be very interesting I can bet on that! :)
