@karkraz To be honest this is the first time I've ever had any trouble with a salvage yard engine, hence the reason I didn't put a whole lot of effort into checking it out before I installed the first one.

Hi Eric, Earl here with 44 yrs experience. Good attitude you have and really was inspired by the 3 part videos. I work similarly in your fashion of I will work on a vehicle for 10 minutes and clear my thinking and go over the details of my 10 min of work and relax and I generally get a job done faster than your average that works constantly for 4 hours and cusses and gets frustrated. I can pull an engine and not get my clothes that dirty. I never start any job without first realizing what can it lead to if things get, well you know

Of the back yard car repairs I've done, I've only ever swapped 1 motor - a V8. The most satisfying moment for me of all the various relatively minor repairs I've done was when that new motor roared to life. It was sweet. Very sweet.

@flipmodeOptimus It helps break up any rust that might be in the cylinder due to it not running for some time. Transmission fluid has detergents in it that would help with that better than just regular oil.

Hey my friend, I really appreciate your candor and honesty. I truely love vehicles, it feels like playing with big boy LEGO’s. I am strongly considering either being a mechanic or a mechanical engineer. I’m currently a painter and truely do despise half of my clients, I’d much rather deal with a machine that can always be coherced into behaving. Truely do admire you man

@melecio1 As for a short or long block that depends on what is damaged in the engine, how many miles are on it, and sometimes what is available. As for labeling the cables if that helps you get it back together correctly then heck yea. Good luck.

I'm going to have to get a engine for my 96 Ram 1500, I fixed my moms car recently, it had a bad head gasket, I'm relatively new to working on engines, but I find a lot of times browsing youtube for information helps a lot, as well as using common sense and a repair manual doesn't hurt, I found it pretty easy so far. I personally would like to get my hands into the guts of a engine, I find them so fascinating .

Youre the man. Honestly, i know how frustrating it can be to deal with mecanical things like this. I do mechanic jobs for a side job for almost 10 years now and i must admit, at some point i wanted to just leave it i mean to just quit!! You really have to take a step back and wait a little! I admire the fact that youre still taping it while its not going always as smooth as you wish!! Good work there! -Léo

The ultimate irony to this saga would have been if the salvage yard truck that broke down was hauled to your shop to fix. I'm not sure if you would have ran away screaming or just fell on the floor in convulsions at that point. XD

Awsome series Eric. At the Honda dealer 2 years back where I worked I had a similar issue with a guaranteed 1.7L 01 Civic motor. I definately learned a similar lesson. Only having one lift the car was tied up for 3 days. Being flat rate and all working on the alignment rack for a couple days was nooo fun.
