DeathScouter, You may have failed to locate the type of filter you expected, but you succeeded in saving me a lot of time learning to do this myself. And for that matter, you saved me a lot of money too. I see some sites trying to sell 2007 Liberty OEM cabin filters when they obviously don't truly exist. So thank you.

Thank You, something else to check.. If you remove the glove box you will see another mesh screen in front of the HVAC housing which filters large debris in circulation mode. Mine was solid black. The shop vac removed the caked on dust on the newly purchased 03' Liberty and improved the recirculate AC tremendously. Thought I would mention it.

Pretty much every vehicle I've worked on these have been accessed behind the glove box and some were just a ten mm or a seven mm or 9/32 socket . Sometimes it's just a phillips head screwdriver or a torex t 15 or t 10. I believe in this particular vehicle there is no paper filter from the factory. Now on vehicle without this a guy can cut about an inch and a half wide door the width of the plastic housing to the heater duct work and take and run a machine through the sides with a piece of plastic or aluminum to allow for the installation of an actual filter and I've personally installed these and maintenance them and have encountered all sorts of debris ranging from lead particles , to the wirlybird tree seeds . I even collected a huge nut in one once where someone had tried to rig up the heater blend door and had taped a giant nut for weight onto the heater blend door. I was truly astonished on that one. I've encountered some that were just so clogged with debris that a person instantly could note the difference in air flow that had occured from the replacement.

If you can find a seller in Europe Part number 1318.5382 is an external filter for the KJ BUT it actually installs in place of the screen and leaves the fiberglass material out in the open under the cowl cover. Might be easier to measure the opening under there and use that to find a filter to fit. Or take the inlet to a parts store and see if you can find one.

I feel theres no enough support for us 03 jeep liberty owners.. I have the limited which looks exactly like yours (I have leather interior which I'm not sure if you do..) however i live in Jacksonville, fl and when it rains it pours and if it pours hard enough my driver side floor is filled with water. Add 100% humidity to that and I might have some new biological creature growing under my carpet. I'm 6'3 260 lbs (I have a wide upper body from shoulder to should (this is one of those times I wish I never got into weight lifting.) But your video allowed me to see that some previous owner drilled a big hole on the driver side and that's why I constantly had water pouring in my jeep. I was able to cut some acrylic and use a plastic epoxy to seal this gaping hole up. Since then I've had zero leaks during the rain and it was all thanks to you and this video. I hope you continue to do Jeep Liberty repair videos. Especially for us 3.7 liter engine guys as everyone knows our engines constantly have problems. I'm actually on my 2nd engine due to the first one blowing a head gasket and it was amusing to see water shoot through where my spark plug was... not so amusing for my wallet. I found a decent mileage engine (had 34k on it) and between myself and 2 other awesome friends (shout out to A.J. and Aaron) we pulled the old and put in the new. I kept the old one as I just replaced the water pump, alternator, and my 6 pack ignition coils. I have it sitting in my indoor storage unit along with multiple other pieces. But I had never thought to remove that plastic piece until this video. I know you made this 4 years ago but it's still helping to this day. My frame has 181k on it and I'm sure I'll need to replace my started sometime soon, my upper control arms, I need to replace either my windshield washer reservoir or the pump (the lower ball joint broke and when the tow truck driver was pulling it he damn near took off my front bumper.) What's worse is 2 months after having both lower ball joints break (the 1st damaged my rim so bad it was unusable) and the second one I just explained it bust my windshield washer reservoir and/or pump. There was a recall on thelower balljoints. Thinking they would of fixed the damaged wheel and windshield washer unit they said no and only offered to replace the balljoints.. well I already had done that and with receipts in hand they even refused to refund me for having to replace them myself... I will never purchase another Jeep again be it a Wrangler, Patriot, or whatever. But I've spilled so much blood, sweat, and money over this one that it's hard for me to just let it go. What I'm trying to say is dont stop making your videos. They are watched and people gain knowledge from them. I for one cannot thank you enough. If you do decide to start making them again (meaning if you haven't sold or junked the current 03) then please keep the dream going for those of us on a tight budget with no brains on how this mysterious machines works lol. God bless and again thank you.

Sorry for your troubles. But I like my 05 Liberty. Just put a Rough Country 3" lift kit in it, big Toyo tires and now I have 4" lift. During the lift kit install, I replaced the upper control arms and tie rod ends. It rides like a dream. It's nice to be able to see over most in traffic. Installed a Dynomax Turbo muffler to replace the factory one. And added a K&N air filter. Been having vapor lock once in a while, but after a few tanks of premium with fuel cleaner added, it's going away. But when it does happen (no start at normal oper. temp.) I spray the metal fuel lines and intake with water (to cool it down) and it starts right up. But again, that problem is going away slowly. Still love my KJ.

I would not say your effort was a fail. You removed the debree that was sitting near and on the the screen which probably did not help for bringing in fresh air or air flow. I would think for the rest of us, removal of the black pastic part with the plastic removable rivots and windshield wipers is sufficient to vacuum the debree against the screen.

@DeathScouter8 жыл бұрын
I believe actual paper cabin filters started to exist in [American] Jeep Liberties in 2008, so no... I don't think this video is a 1:1 correlation to what it would be like in your Liberty. Cabin filters for your vehicle are going to be about $13 and change.

I have a 2009 Liberty. A friend of mine who is a mechanic and worked at Jeep dealership for a few years looked at my car for me last week. He could not find it and said some models don't have them. HI THANKS FOR VIDEO...IS IT POSSIBLE TO REACH HEATER CORE FROM THIS POINT?..
@DeathScouter4 жыл бұрын
You can access the OUTLETS to the 2 heater core hoses from under the hood to flush the core out if you think it may be clogged. But to access/replace the Heater Core, you have to disassemble the entire dashboard to access (remove) the air vents. It's about a 7-9 hour job.

I have a question, I'm hoping you can answer or at least direct me. Our AC only blows when driving. If we stop at a light, no air comes out. Also, when driving, even if going 70mph, it blows very softly, probably like a level 1, it doesn't matter where we move it, all the way to 4 it still blows soft. When going 70, it's ok, it enough to stay cool but the moment we stop, the air stops. We thought it was the blower, ordered it, put it in and nothing changed. Any ideas or suggestions? It would be greatly appreciated. I have a 2002 Jeep Liberty. Thanks in advance!
@DeathScouter7 жыл бұрын
HMMM.... so when you put your key in and turn to the Accessory mode and switch the blower between all the settings, do you hear/feel anything? Can you hear the difference between 1 and 4? If you only feel air while you're driving, my guess is that you have NO power going to the blower fan at all and you're just feeling the air that is being pushed through the vents as a result of driving. Whether you're at idle or driving, should have no affect on the blower motor as the motor is purely electrical. If you have nothing happening with the blower, I'd suspect a more common problem like a fuse. Although I've never seen it blown on ALL settings, there's a chance that you smoked the blower motor resistor board which is relatively easy to fix (about $25). The blower motor resistor board is located behind your glove compartment. I have a video on this as well. Keep me up to date on what you find.
@DeathScouter7 жыл бұрын
OH... if you're already familiar with the wiring for the blower motor, then you should be familiar enough with the parts locations so that you can put a volt meter across the leads and turn the blower knob from 1-2-3-4 and see if you're getting any reading at all.
@lynettecolon4247 жыл бұрын
We replaced the speed resistor and fuses seem to be fine. Still no power to motor. This issue started right after having our ignition switch replaced. Our horn doesn't work or our turn signals and the blower doesn't work. Not sure if it can all be related.
@lynettecolon4247 жыл бұрын
Hey! Just wanted to let you know, it was the most simple thing and no one but me thought it was this. It's been driving me crazy that this happened since that ignition switch actuator pin was worked on. So, last night my husband and I opened it up to see, after I watched several videos of the ignition switch and the moment we opened it, I saw that the ignition switch was not plugged in all of the way!! We clicked it together, started the motor and boom, everything works again, air, blinkers, reverse lights and airbag light finally went off. This has been a few months of not knowing what was wrong, lots of parts bought and returned and it was all because this piece was not plugged in all the way. I figured I would let you know. Thank you for your help!

Would a dirty cabin filter effect the performance of your A/C?
@DeathScouter6 жыл бұрын
IF you have a cabin filter and IF it is clogged... it can impede air flow or perhaps contribute to odors, but it won't necessarily impact A/C operation. I'd say if you have good air flow (with our without the A/C turned on), then you can ignore the filter.

From 5:15-5:30, if you look at that mesh screen there are 2 holes on both ends. Over in Europe those are the points that the paper filter will attach to. For whatever reason it is impossible to get those filters stateside.
@DeathScouter9 жыл бұрын
jbarthol Is the filter more than just a rectangular filter? Does it have some kind of bracket or tabs that hold it in place? I'm wondering if it is something I could build since I suffer from allergies and might benefit from an actual filter
@jbarthol9 жыл бұрын
DeathScouter Read these posts JEEPKJ and LOST forums. Adapting one should be possible. I abandoned it after looking at the cost to import one from Europe. Also, they seem to pop up and disappear over there so supply is not that great. Best bet is to look for a group buy on the forums so you could buy them in bulk to spread the cost out. Sadly I haven't managed to get the money up for it let alone find one of those group buys. www.jeepkj.com/forum/f196/kj-cabin-filter-installed-53090/ www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=24730&start=20

Many times mice will nest in there, around here anyway, so it's highly advisable to wear a mask to prevent inhaling any mouse urine dust. Hanta virus has killed several people in 24 hours flat in my state (some locally) from sweeping dust where mice have been. So you don't want to do this without a mask - unless you have a death wish, LOL! Am sure your friends and family would rather have you here.
