Unless you're in a dry climate, change the rest of the housing and the metal pipe. When it fails you won't get much warning.

Hey great video...I've been contemplating replacing the Thermostat on my 09 CRV due to the fact that fan kicks in way too often (I think...) It this a good idea?

Fan Comes on automatically when the A/C compressor comes on. Otherwise it goes on when the coolant temp reaches a certain point.

Hi mate. Thanks for the video. I have tried to change my thermostat on a Honda CRV 2008 2.0 i-VTEC and it's not in the same place as yours. My two hoses top and lower one are located on the right hand side of the bonnet. Where you think it could be located the thermostat? Thanks again

This might be sort of a dumb question, but how do you necessarily know when the thermostat needs to be changed outside of a potential interval? My 15’ Civic LX produces a slight burn smell through my vents when the heat is on (mid range-full heat). Does your Civic produce this too from time to time and is this an indication that it needs to be changed? Thanks in advance!
@MrRangerZr1
@MrRangerZr1 5 жыл бұрын
You usually change this when you're doing a timing belt service (this civic does not have) or water pump service, which is around 100k miles. The thermostat helps maintain the coolant temp, when it goes bad, it can cause overheating. The "burning" smell is normal. Just check the coolant level every month or so and look out for leaks.

If you live in the new England states, I recommend pb blasting those 10 mil bolts. Bolts broke coming off from corrosion. So I replaced the back of the thermostat housing also. And while replacing the back of the housing I broke the heater pipe cause it was corroded also. Fyi replace thermostat housing, back housing, and heater pipe that goes to it.

I have a 2007 CRV LX 4 cylinder with 100,000 miles. I’m going to change the coolant and I’m determining whether or not I should change the hoses, thermostat and even the water pump. There are no leaks and I haven’t had any issues to date. None of these items have ever been changed, so I’m not sure if I should replace any of these items. Thanks for any recommendations and the great videos!

This CRV at the time of the video had around 250k IIRC, and all the parts were original. These rarely fail, but if you don't mind doing the work doesn't hurt to change them out. I would change the coolant, thermostat, and hoses now, water pump you can leave until it starts making noise.

Seems like I’m loosing antifreeze from that area in my car. I thought there was a gasket on that thermostat case you just removed.... guess there is not. Now I wonder where my leak is coming from.
@MrRangerZr1
@MrRangerZr1 3 жыл бұрын
The thermostat has a gasket, that's what seals it. Do this, degrease the engine and see where the leak is coming from. Coolant will leave a dry powder type residue when it dries. Address it ASAP, coolant leaks are not good.
