So I did it.... a tediuos job but it worked. Broke the keyboard by accident, cleaned it and was not careful enough..and a tiny bit of liquid got in so it became useless. As the keyboard was only 15,- Euro I decided to go for it and replace it, Better to practice on an old machine then a new one. So the explenation is excelent. The work is a killer, it took me 4 hours and it is def. not a nice job. The 51 srews did the job making me decide not to do this again. Be careful you hve the right screwdrivers, even with them it still is an unpleasend job, but it worked and that is the best part. Thx a million for the video, It was a nice experience.

Excellent video. You were very accurate with what steps are needed. I did have to check one other video due to the WiFi being different in my 2012 laptop. Thanks, you saved me a fortune.

Thanks for the video. Very clear and easy to follow instructions -- thanks for the reminders about the wires and keyboard alignment pins. It seems like almost everything has to be disassembled to replace the keyboard. Does the battery need to be removed -- can you just disconnect the cable?
@GRIBSOFT7 жыл бұрын
It's up to you, I would remove it, just to get it out of the way.
@michaelwalsh34823 жыл бұрын
It is harder to get the keyboard cable back into its socket if you have not removed the battery first.

What size PH screwdriver is needed for the 51 keyboard screws? Is it PH000? I did a practice run by trying to remove a keyboard from an old Macbook Pro 2009, top case first using a PH000 screwdriver but it did not fit into the screw heads perfectly well. It stripped a couple of screw heads. I have not been able to figure out if the PH000 screwdriver that I used is poor quality and not made exactly to the PH000 size, or whether I should have been using a different size Philips screwdriver instead of the PH000. Thanks for any hints.

I followed this tutorial today and replaced the track pad while I was at it. The laptop is back together now but the login screen doesn't come up after waiting a couple minutes. The screen lights up white, the startup sound plays, the fans work. Any idea what I need to fix when I take it apart and try again? Thanks
@GRIBSOFT6 жыл бұрын
Check the LCD Screen Connector (LVDS Connector), unplug it and plug it back in, it has a lever that you have to undo. Let us know if that has any effect.

I think I missed one of the other connections. I removed the logic board and put it back together. It works now. Thanks!

My logic board had a second connection when flipped, some part of the speaker that were basically fused with the aluminum body! On your mac it was connected to the speaker and never came off it, but on mine it refuses to go anywhere. This is where my disassembly ended. EDIT: A part of the speaker was glued to the body. In fact, many parts that should not have been glued was. Taking it apart was horrible! My track pad cable got caught in glue while removing the logic board, and it tore apart.. Now I need to order an entirely new trackpad to get another cable! I should have paid the Apple Store guys to do this crap.
@GRIBSOFT5 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry to hear that. Apple has intentionally made the process so difficult and almost impossible so that they can charge you for the repair. This video is only for the bold that are prepared to face the consequences of breaking parts during the repair attempt.

It was an old Macbook, but I decided to restore it anyway just to get thet the experience before attempting similar things on more valuable computers... A smart move, considering how I misstepped a few times in the process. I was a but frustrated about the glue when I typed the response above, but when I got the new trackpad cable and tried to reassemble the system it came together quite nicely. Your video was very helpful, I would not even have been able to begin this project without it. Thank you for sharing!

I followed the instructions to replaced me keyboard. After putting everything back together, my macbook won't turn on. Can anybody help plssssss.
@GRIBSOFT5 жыл бұрын
Readjust the keyboard connection to the logicboard. The keyboard has the power button in it so if the connection is incorrect or miss aligned then the unit can't power on.

You say to install back the right fan fist. But you say that doing the left fan. Might want to correct that.
@GRIBSOFT6 жыл бұрын
Depends on the perspective of reference. It's the right fan when the laptop is open and upright and that's the correct reference, unlike with cars where you have a definitive point of reference (drivers side or passenger side) no such reference exists with laptops so the logical reference would be upright forward facing.

What a shitshow it was to replace! The ph000 screws was a bit too easy to strip, but I probably wasn't patient enough when undoing the 51(!) keyboard screws... Managed to tear my trackpad cable during the process aswell (its really weak) which is another 15$ to fix :/ Still this soon to be "spotless" 2009 3.06ghz MBP has only cost me 100$ including repairs.
